I played this multiple days in a row continuously but eventually I just stopped after reaching the second snow area and just haven't played it again. I definitely enjoyed it and I can't think of reason I haven't continued it but I just haven't.

if you don't do optional stuff / Ranni quest there's like 6 bosses of note and the story is pretty bare. you waste about 50 hours on a first blind playthrough doing shit like catacombs expecting that MAYBE the next one isn't just for spirit summons.

Elden Ring is perfect because you can either spend the game shoving a cactus up your ass on some moronic challenge run, or sleepwalk through it with magic/incants/stancebreak builds.
For reference, I do like the game.
biggest problem to me is they didn't know how to balance the amount of content with leveling system. every shit eating redditor preaches 40 vig before anything else. there are spells and items that require 60 in a stat which to means seems insane. bosses from mid game on will 1 shot you which is absurd and I have never experienced anything like that in ds 1-3 or bb. they needed to make everything gives you less runes and dial back everyone's damage. Beating Gwyn gives you 90k souls if I remember, elden beast gives you 500k that's some fricking inflation. they anticipate you being level 100+, so all the damage enemies do assumes you will have a shit ton of health
it's hard to be underleveled in ds 1-3 also because of linearity, it's extremely easy in ER. I mostly just wanted to legacy dungeons but you will get shit on for skipping the 50 copy pasted dungeons.
at least in older games like ds1 even though lost izalith was pretty shit overall, fighting Taurus and capra demons there as regular enemies was a badass way of showing how strong you've become. same thing with the occasional rare black knights showing up and being very hard early game but then fighting a castle full of them multiple at a time later on.
meanwhile in ER I burst out laughing when I got hit by a normal rat in the sewer area of Lyndell and it still did 1/4 of my health with 45 vig and full radahn armor. they just copy earlier enemies and just increase all their stats, fricking lazy. BECAUSE ITS A RAT IN A HIGH LEVEL AREA OF COURSE IT DOES MORE like it's a fricking MMO or something, and does not make you feel like you are getting stronger at all.

Exactly. I had the same feeling. I like the game but this shit was such a step back, they need to just scrap this open world bullshit forever, it's just a gimmick that wears out its welcome unless the world is quite small and dense.
Super lazy boss design. They just couldn't figure anything out to make it more challenging without miyazaki whispering which buttons you're pressing to some spastic homosexual who now has a 4th swing in his combo ready for you in case you thought he was done.
They had this shit in AC6 too and it was hilarious to watch some gaybot stop everyhting it's doing to dodge your charged shot.
Elden Ring doesn't input read the player, if animation reads them. It's why if you use a spell like Stars of Ruin on Malenia she every time like a dipshit.
I don't have a doubt in my mind that they are cooking up some machine learning shit. It's the next logical step for developing dynamic boss encounters.
