post the first year you remember being the year of the linux on /.
for me, it's 2002
687 B.C. circa sir
For me it was 2023, the full year of Linux desktop untainted by windows.

Been playing Vermintide 2 with my friends. it's a cool game, but it's too bad I can only host and not play quickplay or the anticheat kicks me out. Thanks Fartshart!
I am waiting for The Scramble Vice. I also want to finish playing Kamidori The God Catching Alchemy Meister and Chrono Trigger, And maybe persona games.
to all discord troons spamming here, pic related
Are Lutris and Bottles good? I'm fine with Steam + Proton GE and Wine for now, but for the new year I wanted to try something new.
Lutris install scripts are rudimentary in my opinion. It's just a nice GUI prefix manager that provides better QoL than steam, i.e. you can toggle things like mangohud, gamemode and dxvk instead of writing or installing them manually.
>Lutris install scripts are rudimentary in my opinion
Luckily you can modify them and/or share the modifications with them, from what I'm seeing. What install script did you have trouble with?
Scripts create a new prefix and force obsolete wine version, that's not necessary in most cases. I can just manually install and add a game, no scripts needed.
For me it's Heroic, it fetches the latest wine-ge so you don't need protonup
So does lutris. The problem with lutris is that wine, dxvk etc are downloaded through the lutris site API rather than from source, so new releases often days or weeks behind. You can hack around this for dxvk and other tools with git or package manager patches but you're stuck with whatever wine-ge version strycore uploaded last.
oh, I wasn't aware of that, since we're here is there a way to install it without a DE? It worked when I was using KDE a few years ago but now every option I get when installing dependencies (xdg-portal-desktop) comes with the full desktop environment

2002 for me as well. i played korean mmos at the time and remember morons argued linux was going to happen, anytime now, literally over for micro$oft
2015. Before the Proton revolution and after my PC wouldn't stop BSOD'ing repeatedly. Tried Fedora first, then fell in love with Ubuntu. I freaking loved Unity
Every year is the year of Linux Gaming!

Umm, I play OLD games.
Based thread though.
i play old games because i use integrated graphics(iris xe)
How is it? I too primarily play older games, but I'm interested in the lower price-point of Xe for fixing up older computers
The year of the Linux desktop for me was in 2010 and the year of the Linux gaming was in 2020, thank you based Gaben, Vulkan, and the DXVK dev
does it really count when you've got a linux console which is what the deck is?
Deck wasn't out in 2020 bro
it's actually still march 2020 so yes it was
vulkan is.... good?
With the rise of Steam Deck it has become extremely clear that native Linux gaming is well and truly dead, buried underneath a mountain of outdated dependencies you'll have to manually compile from source
The future of games on Linux is via tools like Proton and Wine and with that the dream of Linux as the primary platform for gamers has died. The idea of studios developing for one platform simply so the majority of their audience can then emulate that platform on another platform is just absurd.
>emulate
Yes, Wine Is Not an Emulator. I am fully aware.
Point is that native Linux gaming can never truly take off because neither developers or users have any interest in native Linux software. Both sides would rather be running Windows software within Linux.
Wine runs software natively you stupid baby duck.
>Wine runs software natively
The wine gay shows himself.
>natively
This is literally not what this word means you moronic frick!
A NATIVE Linux application uses NATIVE linux calls.
Jesus frick there is a reason these things are separated in protonDB!
Native means the code is executed natively you fricking techlet. Use mobile phone two more years until you learn first thing about PCs.
>Native means the code is executed natively you fricking techlet
It literally is not you dumb moron!
If it was you would not need to install wine!
Wine is a EMULATOR! That EMULATES windows!
>Nooo
Why?! Proof?!
Lets see
>Look everyone Snes9X is not a EMULATOR!
>It simply runs SNES code nativity on your windows!
>Not a emulator!
You are a fricken joke at this point!
>learn first thing about PCs.
I'm literally on linux mint you dumb shit!
>literal moron can't comprehend the difference between emulation and native code execution
I hope you're just trolling, have a nice day
>Wine is a EMULATOR! That EMULATES windows!
>Nooo
>Why?! Proof?!
Because back in the 90's, Microjeet Wingroids dev team decided to instead of having a native compositor solution, they were going to force everything onto Direct X and their new upcoming compatibility layer for 64 bit applications, SysWoW
But Direct X doesn't require Windows, the Direct X runtimes are proof of that. Neither does SysWoW. So in order to make modern Windows natively display 64 bit applications, they wrote a compatibility layer for all Windows applications starting in 2001, that's what SysWoW is.
That's all Wine is. It's this same compatibility layer just ported to a different platform. Emulation implies that it's running the native operating system or some facsimile of its native architecture. It's not, Microsoft opened the door to letting anything run Windows programs by relying 100% on this compatibility layer for 64 bit computing. It's 100% a native solution to running windows programs in Linux with no emulation required.
All Linux needs, and the reason things don't "Just werk", are the libraries and drivers present in Windows. Freetards are freetards and refuse to publish 'Nonfree' libraries, so the libraries Wine uses are ancient. Same goes for drivers which is why anything Nvidia breaks.
Enter Proton-GE, which is proton and Wine written by someone who isn't a freetard and doesn't give a frick about packaging binaries with his releases. Which idk if you've ever tried it but it really does "Just werk". I haven't encountered anything on it which doesn't "Just werk" unless it's anti-cheat that requires kernel privilege to operate, a function that only works in Microjeet winblows.
Cope.
Still not explaining why console emulators are not emulstors by the same logic.
emulating Windows API (i.e using replicated, RE Windows API) IS still emulating, krugger redditor.

>Noo it is a compatibility layer that emulates FRICK
SO like every emulator.
>Noo it is not a emulator because the joke name says it is not a emulator
Your argument is a joke.
> every library reimplementation is an emualtor
So openJDK is just an oracle jdk emualtor? And linux is UNIX emulator? Is everythign an emulator? Is it just emualtors all the way down?
>And linux is UNIX emulator?
LOL this statement is moronic.
>> every library reimplementation is an emualtor
So are Xbox 360 emulators not library reimplementatios? Answer this.
>openJDK
The JVM is literally the JAVA VIRTUAL MACHINE.
Is linux not emulating the Portable Operating System Interface for Unix? Its not emulating the whole Unix ecosystem, but then neither is wine.
>Portable Operating System Interface for Unix
The frick?
No POSIX you dumb frick was made up by Richard Stallman in 1984
>Its not emulating the whole Unix ecosystem
To explain to you the interaction between GNU+Linux and UNIX (Did you know you can run GNU without Linux?) takes to long.
So I make it simple GNU+Linux is to UNIX what ReactOS is to Windows.
Understand now?
GNU+Linux implement basically the same structure of UNIX.
The same way ReactOS implements the same structure of MS Windows.
GNU+Linux EMULATES UNIX however is not a EMULATOR since all code runs natively.
The same way ReactOS EMULATES Windows however is not a EMULATOR since all code runs natively.
Are we finished here moron boy?
> GNU+Linux EMULATES UNIX however is not a EMULATOR since all code runs natively.
games under wine also run natively, its just that the library calls end up executing different code than it would execute on windows. But its native (x86_64) code.
>But its native (x86_64) code.
Imagine getting debunked this hard.
Simply imagine.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:X86-based_game_consoles
Looks like none of the emulators for these consoles are real emulators they must be BLA BLA WINE-moron COPE WORDS BLA BLA
>games under wine also run natively
THEY LITERALLY DO NOT.
There is a reason why ProtonDB makes this its own category.
>natively
NO.
None of the other GNU+Linux programs use anything in wine, wine only exists for windows programs to call it.
Wine is a emulator.
> its just that the library calls end up executing different code
Exactly like a Xbox 360 emulator.
Explain how Xbox 360 emulators are not emulators gayot!
>But its native (x86_64) code.
The cope!
And the 2001 Xbox is also a x86 machine. Your point is invalid!
>>But its native (x86_64) code.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:X86-based_game_consoles
Imagine getting debunked this hard.
Simply imagine.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:X86-based_game_consoles
> None of the other GNU+Linux programs use anything in wine, wine only exists for windows programs to call it.
That entirely irrelevant.
> THEY LITERALLY DO NOT.
nice argument. Explain why x86_64 instruction being executed on a x86_64 is not native
> muh gaystation 4
I dont care about some homosexual console shit, please stop derailing the discussion. We are discussing why wine is as much emulator as linux is unix emulator.
>That entirely irrelevant.
Explain how all the x86 console emulators are not emulators then.
>I dont care about some homosexual console shit, please stop derailing the discussion.
You got debunked hard.
Your literally argument is
>It runs x86 code so it is not emulation
Now aply that logic to emulators who work on Linux on x86 processors who EMULATE x86 consoles! Either tell us what makes a emulator a emulator or admit you are debunked!
Why are you so fricking obsessed with gaystation?
It might very well be just reimplementation of some libraries. Or there might be some hardware oddities that need emulating. I dont know how close the gaystation 4 is to pc, the cpu has same architecture, but there might be some custom homosexualry in other harware. Im not homosexual enough to care about your gay parade simulator. Maybe it requires emulation, maybe it doesnt, i dont care. But wine juts makes windows shit run on the same frickign hardware just with different libraries. Not an emulator.
> Either tell us what makes a emulator a emulator or admit you are debunked!
Emulation implies the existence of underlying hardware/software subsystems which must be sandboxed in order for the program to function correctly. The naïve definition is that it's a software layer that allows a computer system to act as another computer system, with hardware and software calls being made to pretend versions of that original system's hardware and software.
Native implies that there is no need to do this kind of slow and often resource intensive remapping for the benefit of the software. All calls to the system are interpreted as analogues to the hardware it is running on. That's why Wine isn't an emulator: It's a translation layer for software calls but still sees the native hardware as its own hardware.
> I dont know how close the gaystation 4 is to pc
It's quite a ways away. The reason gaystation 4 doesn't get good emulation while Xbox One already has an emulator out for it is because of Direct X, which is shared on PC and Console.
Meanwhile the original Xbox still isn't broken because it has layers upon layers of security measures, some of which use undocumented features of its custom chips.
>made to pretend versions of that original system's hardware and software.
You debunked yourself.
>Native implies that there is no need to do this kind of
You debunked yourself WINE is not doing that.
>definition is that it's a software layer that allows a computer system to act as another computer system, with hardware and software calls being made to pretend versions of that original system's hardware and software
This is exactly what wine is doing, it is software shit that literally must translate all win call to native linux calls.
>definition is that it's a software layer that allows a computer system to act as another computer system, with ___ software calls being made to pretend versions of that original system's ____ software
This is what wine is doing.
Why the frick does it pretend there is a C:/ and mounts / as Z:/ ????
>Native implies that there is no need to do this kind of
>You debunked yourself WINE is not doing that.
Yes it is, you don't know how Wine works.
>This is exactly what wine is doing, it is software shit that literally must translate all win call to native linux calls.
That's not what Wine is doing at all. Windows itself uses a translation layer, known as SysWoW64, in order to translate calls to its kernel. Wine is just that translation layer ported to Linux. This doesn't mean Linux is 'emulating' it any more than a port of a console game to PC is 'emulating' that console. It's using all the same calls Windows does.
>Why the frick does it pretend there is a C:/ and mounts / as Z:/ ????
As I was saying.
Z:/ is your root directory, /. It pretends it's C:/ to be compatible with older Windows programs which assume you're installing straight to the hard drive. Otherwise, it goes to your prefix folder. You can disable this in winetricks, and should disable this in winetricks.
>with older Windows programs which assume you're installing straight to the hard drive
You are a moron and do not understand how the file system on windows or POSIX/GNU works.
You're moronic but I guess that's a given considering you've been trying to argue Wine is an emulator for the past three hours.
If you understood throughput then you'd understand why wine is very often not slower than a native windows program despite having to use an intermediary layer of pretend syscalls to make windows programs function. And calling this process emulation at all is just dumb. (W)ine (I)s (N)ot (E)mulation
>If you understood throughput then you'd understand why wine is very often not slower than a native windows program
Did I ever say it was? Wine is usually faster because it's not relying on the billion layers of bloat added to Windows.
That is, when the drivers don't frick up.
> And calling this process emulation at all is just dumb.
That's my point and I don't know why you quoted me when I just said that. Did you click the wrong post?
>ediary layer of pretend syscalls to make windows programs function
Because windows has a bloated registry full of crap like literally logging every time you plug in a USB device and a copy of your file system (WTF?!) While the wine pretend win registry does not do that.
Also modern windows implements over 10 24/7 spyware programs that simply run on everything. So there is that.
>(W)ine (I)s (N)ot (E)mulation
And this is why peopel want to throw rocks at you.
>The devs have written that WINE is not an emulator therefore it is not!
This is literally a joke logic.
And MS says windows is the best OS ever.
Looks like devs say lots of things or you got debunked once.
>an intermediary layer of pretend syscalls to make windows programs function
And this magically is not emulation...
Magically somehow...
You are stumbling at your own words you moron.
Previously it was
>It is not emulation because it is x86 to x86
hen this got debunked because x86 consoles exist and the programs making the games run are named EMULATORS!
by your moron logic docker containers are now emulation
please don't encourage him or he'll start calling flatpaks emulation, too.
>by your moron logic docker containers are now emulation
They are not emulators since they do not emulate anything that exists
>Ree wine is not an emulator it does not emulate windows
>[continues to chase every moronic move and update MS makes to windows to emulate windows games on loonix ]
Yea do you even understand what a emulator is? OR what EMULATING even means?
ok but it's not an emulator tho. The translation layer isn't emulation unless you want to argue Windows is emulating itself, too. Because the way Wine works and the way Windows works is identical. They're the same thing performing the same task on two different systems.
>they do not emulate anything that exists
they sandbox programs into a fake filesystem which the program does not know is not 'real' much in the same way a program running through a compatibility layer does not know it is a compatibility layer
>Yea do you even understand what a emulator is?
it's certainly not a compatibility layer, which, wangblows itself regularly has to employ the use of its own compatibility layer to run older programs
> X emulates Y but is not emulator
>The idea of studios developing for one platform simply so the majority of their audience can then emulate that platform on another platform is just absurd.
I agree.
This is why valve is moronic it should force developers to use whatever linux OS they make up and reward them for doing so by giving them better profit margins.
Actually valve should openly have separated the deck and classified it as a console and literally told developers to write for their Linux Deck OS or no way to publish.
And it would have worked then valve can write a linux emulator for windows and force the rest of their gamer into either dealing with linux emulation on windows or switching to linux.
This is a smarter move since MS will eventually ban steam from being on windows and force you only to install from the Microsoft store.
Either way valve is beyond moronic and a comical disappointment
Steam machine! = FAILS
Steam controller! = FAILS
Steam OS!=FAILS (you literally can not download it anymore! AHAHAHAH)
Muh Steam Deck! = TO be abandoned like all the other valve shit.
Valve is a joke and their downfall is of their own making!
The Deck is doing well and it was a very smart decision if the goal was pushing for proton compatibility.
Steam showed that a market for those handheld PCs exists and now plenty of big publishers like SEGA for example make sure that all their new games are Steam Deck - and therefore Linux compatible - day one.
I do think it would be great if Steam lowered the cut for every developer who ensures that their games are proton compatiblie as that would definitely push even more - and especially big titles - to enable Linux compatibility. I doubt Ubisoft would keep blocking something like Siege from running on Linux if them removing it resulted into them keeping more of that microtransaction money.
>I do think it would be great if Steam lowered the cut for every developer who ensures that their games are proton compatiblie as that would definitely push even more - and especially big titles - to enable Linux compatibility.
That wouldn't really do anything, there would be a "dude trust me, I absolutely tested it on proton" and that would be the end of that. I once wondered about something similar for enabling games with anticheat but I feel like developers would be more incentivized to USE invasive anticheat just to say it works on linux to get that cut which is kind of a cobra effect I think that valve may have thought about and is trying to avoid, I mean, I fricking would in their position.
Steam is very supportive when it comes to that kind of stuff. You see people constantly reporting on the proton github with valve employees and others tinkering around to see what exactly makes a game not work.
And in case of those big AAA titles - pretty much all would work if not for Anti-Cheat/DRM restrictions.
Yeah but how would you *contractually* force an obligation to companies to do this for that lower cut that can't even make their shit work correctly on windows sometimes? Financially incentivizing this with a lower cut just seems like a mess of drama waiting to happen if you ask me. It'd be like that time todd howard said "We did optimize Starfrield, you just need better PCs" but times a thousand and much uglier cause more money is involved collectively.
In a perfect world, I too would want valve to financially incentivize testing for proton and enabling anticheat, but I see a cobra effect and litigious spaghetti in the future of that suggestion, I literally thought about this kind of thing myself before.
>starfrield
I'm not even gonna correct that typo, I think it's funny.
Just set some hard guidelines
>no codec shit that would force people to use something like GE-Proton
>list the available codecs they can use
>if anticheat exists they need to enable it on Linux or switch it for something else
There is nothing subjective over EAC having Linux support enabled or not. It either is or it isn't.
I just don't want to see kernel level anticheat in more games just so devs can get a lower cut, is all.
I doubt that would make more devs use kernel level anti-cheat.
The only reason why some games refuse to run on Linux is their anti-cheat running on ring zero which is a no-go with the Linux kernel.
Its funny because kernal software anti cheats will never beat hardware exploit hacks. DMA hacks are gaining popularity because of this
It's like that "know the workplace rules" meme but with cheaters. Nobody seems to care that people on Windows often bypass the anticheat, yet suddenly when linux users want to just simply play the game they suddenly care about security.
I really believe that Microsoft is paying these companies to be exclusive. There is no reason for the bullshit, they spew
Sure the devs who use this super invasive anticheat don't care about security considering how many cheater problems those games still have with nothing happening. Valve do more in that regard and they use literal old ass VAC.
The only reason someone wants the highest possible access to your kernel is them wanting to spy on you.
>Anti-Cheat/DRM restrictions.
which is funny because most anti-cheats work on linux.
easy anti-cheat and battle-eye for example have been both updated to work on proton and allow it.
which is funny because the egs for example officially does not support linux but the epic games developers officially endorse heroic and legendary which lead to the updates to eac in the first place.
you can literally just play fortnite on heroic on any linux distro just fine.
>you can literally just play fortnite on heroic on any linux distro just fine.
bullshit, I actually like linux and this is false, screenshots or it didn't happen. Tim has literally gone on record to say that he doesn't want fortnite to run on linux, presumably because that would mean that it runs on Steam Deck and he "doesn't have the programmers" to maintain that (even though he laid off 800 of them recently)
Timmy also cited "security reasons" for why Fortnite is skipping Linux support. Which is funny considering he has no problem selling EAC Linux to other devs.
>he doesnt know
https://github.com/Heroic-Games-Launcher/HeroicGamesLauncher
literally been possible for over 2 years now with a bit of workarounds back then but now it literally just works.
https://www.systranbox.com/how-to-run-fortnite-on-linux-a-step-by-step-guide/
you're out of the loop anon.
Perfect is the enemy of good. To make incremental changes for the better is good. The first step here with proton and Deck is making developers conform with open media standards and APIs.
Your concerns are valid, but you're still half wrong. I played the native version of Cave Story+ (against Valve's recommendation of using Proton 7.0) on my Steam Deck and it just worked without compiling jack shit. I also played the native version of Costume Quest (though in this case Valve actually recommends the native build). These games are from over a decade ago. The fact is that even old Linux ports aren't that hard to run, especially on Steam because Steam Linux Runtime is a stable target platform which also provides many of the old dependencies that older Linux ports need.
Whether developers take the time to make Linux ports when Proton just works is another matter entirely. Just recently New Blood released a Windows-only update to Dusk whose Linux port was perfectly functional, telling people "dude just use Proton lol" even though Valve had already put a Deck Verified rating on the native version. That's one of many examples of developers and publishers not giving a frick. But there is no "mountain of outdated dependencies you'll have to manually compile from source" unless you're talking about Linux ports from the fricking '90s, because I can run native Linux games as old as the Linux version of Steam itself with no problems.
Stop blaming Windows for Linux's failures.
I would pay $100 for a Gaming Linux distro that just werks. Where they have crystal clear instructions on how to build a Linux PC, exactly how to load and configure it, have HDR enabled, and plays games.
Tell me, how does not having HDR for so long Microsoft's fault? What about my Oculus Rift 2. Will everything work on Linux as it does with Windows? Zuck doesn't work for Microsoft.
The problem with Linux is it only seems to be an OS for servers and ONLY because business love the word free. If Linux was serious about taking over PC gaming, they'd have offered a paid service years ago and used that money to compete with Microsoft.
Gabe hated Windows so much, he started a fail line of Linux pre-built PC's just to try and compete and nobody wanted it because Linux SUCKS for PC gaming so hard, not even Gabe's hate could make it work. Any normal man would've given up, but Gabe played the only cards he had left, a Linux distro with a Wine-like Windows workaround.
Either make a paid Linux gaming distro or don't. Either way, stop blaming other companies for the penguin's failure.
At least they are used on most servers and you can O&OShutup Windows for piracy/privacy.
Imagine sucking gabeNs dick so hard.
No Valve is moronic.
Lets see what OSs are there
XboxOS
XboxOS is a thing, devs either write for it natively or no game published on Xbox.
Play Station OS
Play Station OS is a thing, devs either write for it natively or no game published on Play Station.
Switch OS
Switch OS is a thing, devs either write for it natively or no game published on Switch.
Literally the only thing the fat frick needed to do is write a linux emulator for windows tell devs that the deck is its own thing and either they will write for his Linux OS OR no games published.
Every time trying to support 100% of the steam library is the problem here.
He literally did have a moment he was able to do this releasing his own shit handheld console yet he did not.
Every time it is the same problem. Fat frick needs to support 100% of the steam library, even for games never made for console controls like Earth 2150!
Yet what did the fat frick do?
He literally told devs
>Write for Proton because bla bla bla
Literally NO! This is wrong!
>Literally the only thing the fat frick needed to do is write a linux emulator for windows tell devs that the deck is its own thing and either they will write for his Linux OS OR no games published.
Devs would've chosen "no games published."
>Devs would've chosen "no games published."
Cool.
If the fat frick was not moronic he do it he Nintendo way and make a killer new HL or Portal or something game and gave it for free for anyone who did buy the deck.
>Devs would've chosen "no games published."
Funny how none of them do that for the the consoles, or the switch, or the WiiU ... or the N64
Yes some refused to publish on the N64 however others did not.
They can publish for PC steam the deck is separate where if you want to publish for it you need to write for his OS.
>Gaben with loonixOS 2 is the same as Nintendo in 1996
By the way SteamOS was a thing for long before the deck. They tried to push Steam machines a decade ago with SteamOS. Nobody gave a frick and some people would rather run Steam through WINE. Turns out HL2 and TF2 on linux weren't enough to make people switch away from what already worked well.
>Yet Nintendo made money with the WiiU and Nintendo 3Ds.
Not enough, and they've been established as a popular console manufacturer since way, way, way, way, way before you were born.
>The deck is not a PC!
It is an UMPC with a controller attached to it. You can turn it into a computer through and through, install Windows, or even hackintosh on that piece of shit, I'm sure some autist must have managed that already.
>No one is stopping you from using wine on it or other things, only valve will not shill this as TEH MAIN WAY TO WRITE FOR THE DECK!
It simply is the most efficient way. You want people to invest endless hours trying to support the 7 quintillion different distros, setups, versions of shared libraries you might have in your fricking system this morning, when they could just give you something that's mostly working already out of the box, and if you have a problem, adjust accordingly, save valuable hours, and with it, lots of money. You're out of your mind. Go read on what a fricking GLIBC update did for some of those beloved native titles.
>By the way SteamOS was a thing for long before the deck. They tried to push Steam machines a decade ago with SteamOS
What part of valve being moronic did you fail to understand?
>is the same as Nintendo in 1996
How about Xbox in 2001?
New console, own OS, demands you write for it.
Has killer game in the form of HALO!
>HL2 and TF2
AH yes the several year old games that everyone played already.
How about this.
Make a new game (I do not give as shit if it is HL3 or Portal 3 or a new IP) that is great and ONLY release it for Steam Deck OS.
This is the fricken reason why valve keeps on loosing.
They literally invent moronic controllers where they try to lie to people that they will be as good as K+M for FRICKEN GAMES WHO WHERE NEVER MADE FOR ANYTHING OTHER THEN K+M !
EARTH2150 comes to mind!
And then wounder why their shit fails.
>Not enough, and they've been established as a popular console manufacturer
Was MS in 2001?
How do you think people who buy literally every console will react if there is a new game that is very good only for this new console from valve?
>It is an UMPC
No it is not. It is a fricken x86_64 intel CPU. If I think PC I think a tower where you can change parts etc as opposed to a laptop.
>It is an UMPC
Cool are laptops PCs then? What even is a PC at this point? Did we stop having PCs when intel and AND switched from x86 to x86_64 processors?
How do I name this thing that goes into my Full ATX case? What are these things that comply with the ATX standard then?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX
Do you even understand what the words I use mean?
You're dense as frick, please talk about things you understand next time
Maybe try some of the native versions of linux games and see where the problems lied and why they decided proton (wine) was a better option.
Also nobody's going to buy a PC handheld that can only play a couple of games because they have to be native.
>Also nobody's going to buy a PC handheld that can only play a couple of games because they have to be native.
Yet Nintendo made money with the WiiU and Nintendo 3Ds.
Like explain this!
>Also nobody's going to buy
Why not? Make a killer game like Nintendo does with Mario and people will buy it.
And devs will write for it, not all of them, and I'm so sorry that you will not get gay dinosaur gayot simulator for it that you did buy in 2008!
> because they have to be native.
This is literally fact for all consoles.
And for windows ... all of windows.
WTF was your point again? You WINE Emulating gayot?!
>buy a PC
The deck is not a PC!
>that can only play a couple of games
No one is stopping you from using wine on it or other things, only valve will not shill this as TEH MAIN WAY TO WRITE FOR THE DECK!
Understand that?
This is just terminal stage of autism, lol
I accept your unconditional surrender.
>I literally can not epxlain why consoles exist and devs write for 3 different console operating systems at the same time!
You are moronic!
I'm not going to explain why you're an autist, it's your doctor's job.
I already explained to you why you lost this debate.
No need to keep posing how more right and correct I am.
>autist
You are literally moronic!
>I already explained to you why you lost this debate.
Nobody was debating you
Yet you lost it moron.
Tell your mother to call the Tard Wrangler to get you under control.
XboxOS was never a thing, they all run windows
>I would pay $100 for a Gaming Linux distro that just werks.
I have good news for you friend
Mint gamer here.
While I dont look forward to any games to come out in 24, I do look forward to playing phantom liberty(once I buy it)
Also looking forward to tackling my backlog, again.
>use linux for privacy and security

i didn't say that
>muh straw man
kys

Steam
This is why I do not install steam spyware on my linux.
Having only one spyware program on your computer is a big step up from the OS itself being spyware.
Reminder that Valve doesn't misuse user information because there's no fiscal incentive to.
More like there's nothing to misuse.
Oh no, Valve sold information such as... I like these games and this is the hardware I use for playing them? Oh noooo I'll get ads related to the hobby I like!!
No, I don't watch porn in Steam's built-in browser or leave Steam running during non-gaming-related tasks.
>use linux
>kernel.org still hasn't put out a report on their major security breach in 2011
>*crickets*
>ahblooobloobloooooo my native transfer layer isn't emulation c'mon guith!!!!
NO! WindowsGODS why do we suffer these cretons in our midst?
See
The idea that wine is not a emulator (or better yet runs games natively) is so moronic is you try to apply the same standards to every emulator you find out that emulators do not exist.
Literally the only thing that wine-gays do is repeat this line. With no proof!
And not the devs saying it is not a emulator is not proof.
Literally the only justification I did see for this gas lighting is that if people openly start calling wine an emulator it gets hit with shit loads of regulations since emulators are semi-illegal.
However this is Ganker and no one gives a shit what autistic basement moron racists say.
i just want to dump on tuxgays man
>tuxgays
Anon I'm a linux user and I myself hate these morons who need to go
>Awchually wine is not an emulator!
anon, except for the steam deck or messing with your ps3 in 2006 you shouldn't be using linux ever. it's just a gay os, accept it and deride it as such.
You said that in 2022
Get your shit together with your display server situation first
So how do I play LADGTMWEHN without paying much on linux?
>wine is an emulator
>nooooo it's not an emulator
>yes it is
>no it's not
>waaaah yes it is
>waaaaaaaaaah no it's not
Umm, who cares? Emulation is based.
it's a compatibility layer, not an emulator
but the important thing is that it's a recursive acronym
you should look up what wine stands for
>you should look up what wine stands for
It says on the box that it is not a emulator then it is not a emulator.
Look this picture must be a CAT! it SAYS CAT!
You should read the last line of the post to which you're replying.

Omg he's literally me on god fr
I'm in no hurry, seems based on discussions on steam that it will get a "final" update so maybe there will be more reports by then.
I could always just refund it but I was hoping someone from here tried running it on linux
Thanks for the bumps anons.
Anyway, games I'm looking forward to:
>Electrokinetic
>Penny's Big Breakaway
>Unrecord
>Abiotic Factor
>B.C. Piezophile
>Victory Heat Rally
>Compound Fracture
>Tactical Breach Wizards
>The Scramble Vice
>V.A. Proxy
>Earth Defense Force 6
>Light No Fire
>It simply is the most efficient way.
No it is not!
>endless hours trying to support the 7 quintillion different distros, setups, versions of shared libraries
You debunked yourself moron.
Steam makes a Valve Linux for the Deck and says everyone to write for the Valve Linux OS.
Other distros can simply copy whatever setup the Valve Linux OS uses. And end of storry.
>You're out of your mind.
See above.
>Go read on what a fricking GLIBC
Why? When I can simply play steam games on my linux mint and laugh at your stupidity?
Looks like the linux mint devs magically managed to copy Steam OS with zero problems. It is far simpler to copy wherever one distro (Steam OS) is doing instead of trying to reverse engineer and emulate fricken windows!
Thanks again for the bump, though I believe you responded to the wrong person.
Anyone else tried running picrel? On protondb there are barely any reviews in recent months and those old ones are unfavorable
It's a source engine game, surely there couldn't be issues with it.
>It's a source engine game, surely there couldn't be issues with it.
Actually a ton of source engine games are broken right now because they use an extremely out of date memory allocator.
Just took this screenshot from my steam deck. The game definitely has some kind of issue with overlays, considering that usually when I take steam deck screenshots you can see MangoHUD in them, and the game did crash immediately after the opening cutscenes but ran just fine from the autosave that was made, so I give mostly a tentative recommendation
>linux gaming
Oh boy do I love having to jump through hoops to play videogames and being lucky if they work perfectly with 0 issues, and then if they don't work I have to beg for Linux ports because all I have left is the wide catalogue of linux only games like... shitty ripoffs of super mario world and mario kart...
Nobody's making you do that, so why are you terminally buttblasted about it?
Year of the Linux Deskslop
Ps4 emulation is finally becoming playable. This year is going to be good
>Ps4 emulation is finally becoming playable.
Is it now? What games do you plan to play on it?
that's not a rhetorical question; I legit only boot up my PS4 for Dreams these days since everything else I'd rather just play on my PC, and I can't imagine an online dependent game like that would play well on an emulator.
Darksouls and Shadow of the Colossus, some other games. Here is a site for everything emulation related https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Main_Page
Dark souls has PC ports, what?
I guess shadow of the colossus is a valid choice however.
Bloodborne has no port
That's true I suppose. I got souls-like fatigue as far back as Dark Souls 2 honestly, by the time Elden Ring came out I was already kinda eh on the genre as a whole. I own bloodborne but I have barely played it.
Best distro for gaming?
The one you're used to, or one of the most popular once if you don't have any experience with Linux systems.
You're gonna get a lot of different answers, but I think the best balance between moron proof and up to date is probably Nobara Project KDE edition.
I personally use arch but I wouldn't recommend it to a newcomer.
Doesn't matter, choose based on ease of use or a DE you like. Mint is a good starting point.
A reasonably up-to-date one, therefore exclude Debian or Ubuntu LTS. Newer drivers give better performance unless there's a bug and then the bug will get patched in a few days.
Something with up to date drivers i would recommend Fedora if you want a mostly out of the box experience or Arch if you want a more customized one.
im starting a pirate site like good old downloads but for the linux installers.
I think there are some wine bottles that come with cracked content
probably but lutris for example expects the linux installer for gog games that have a linux version.
im all for native over wine.
>wine bottles that come with cracked content
NTA but i am interested in this.
Where might i find those?
>install ubuntu
>mouse with extra buttons don't work
>YOU NEED TO BUY BETTER MICE YOU moron
>printer doesn't work at all
>YOU ARE moronic FOR HAVING THAT PRINTER FOR LINUX
>games I like to play won't even start
>WHY DO YOU PLAY SHIT GAMES LIKE THAT YOU moron
Gatekeeping and gloating over a fricking operating system was way too autistic for me, so I just went back to windows and aforementioned problems all disappeared. I can print again.
>Gatekeeping and gloating
I disavow these morons however I use linux because of the privacy it gives.
yes from my experience form the games I want to play only 50% WORK ON WINE.
>mouse with extra buttons don't work
Mine does. No problem. What mice?
>printer doesn't work at all
What printer? My work no problem out of the box.
Is that printer like not on USB or something?
linuxgays are such petulant dickheads. Most have encountered the same problems as you but simply gave up on fixing them
>install ubuntu
>mouse with extra buttons don't work
This shit unironically sucks and it's even worse with Wayland because Wayland doesn't allow you to use the Manufacturer's third party mappers to assign them to custom functions. If an app doesn't have native support for multiple mouse functions, you're SOL.
And it sucks having to admit that because if it weren't for small things like
>printer doesn't work at all
CUPS sucking dick
>games I like to play won't even start
Support being all over the place
Then it would be the perfect OS.
>no linux user ever said that
who are you quoting?
>mouse with extra buttons--
My five-button mouse works. There's even an open-source driver to control the gay LEDs.
>printer
My printer works. I didn't even have to install drivers, unlike on Windows.
>>SHIT GAMES
You mean the long-term and exclusive users of Linux are also the people who don't care for the games that don't work on Linux? No way dude, that's crazy. It's almost like the people who like those games don't choose to use Linux. But nah I'm sure it's le sour grapes. Everyone except you is irrational.
tried to play touhou 6 yesterday on linux and I couldn't
touhou 7 and 13 worked "fine" (lag spikes)
as of today linux gaming is a joke
??? just install playonlinux unpack the zip inside the folder and add it to the launcher
I'm going to be switching to Linux and wondering how you solve these issues. I usually just search my issue online and find a solution that way or is there a better way for Linux gaming
I mostly just use lutris and everything works there. If lutris doesn't work, I try adding the game to steam as a shortcut and forcing proton compatiblity and it usualy works.
Sometimes I need to change system locale to japanese for some japanese games.
Last resort is a virtual machine with windows, but ever since proton was released I didn't have to do that.
Thx anon
yeah I tried it dummy and it didn't work
broken arrow
Trying to get Siege of Avalon working is a b***h.
I managed to get the intro cutscene working but the game crashes after that with wine ge 25.
But the game works with wine 8.21, but the cutscenes and music ingame don't work.
And now I have to wait for Valve to update their wine version to the current one, AAAAAAAAAAA.
Also Mod Organiser 2.5 doesn't work on Valve's wine version and I have to wait for that also so I can finally start my Oblivion run.
Just watch the cutscenes on youtube. Game music is shit, play something else instead anyways if you need the background music.
The absolute state.
have a nice day falseflagging troony. You do this every thread.
>youtube
I can just watch them from the movies folder, it's just 2 of them.
The no music ingame is far more important ly lots of atmosphere is list without them.
Did you try using proton or proton-ge, instead of wine-ge?
Downloading the game right now on gaming OS (Windows 11), I seen the main menu UI thread where anon posted this game, it looks cool
LMAO, do troonix really?
Just don't play at 1080p or you won't be able to read shit because the UI doesn't scale.
Siege of Avalon literally double click the installer, hit play and everything from motion video to music works.
No compatibility enabled at all.
>hurr durr windogs 11 can't play old games
The motion video seems sluggish like 20fps or so. Maybe it runs on igfx for some reason.
Yep the text is also way to small on 1080p
Do any of you use a phone emulator? I'm using an Nvidia GPU and from what I understand Waydroid is for AMD only.
Waydroid is the best one and even then, as
I understand it's not as good as windows options. Problem is it requires Wayland which Nvidia doesn't support well, and then hardware acceleration doesn't work with Nvidia on waydroid, but it does on Intel and amd
NVK should be enough for phone games now, waydroid probably will start supporting it properly eventually
Capes
Tomb Raider remasters
Luigi's Mansion 2 and 3 on Ryujinx
Is there an option to change to use the recent released wine ge on lutris on my fricking gog games, every fricking game I want to download/install through lutris keeps asking me of using older versions I don't fricking use and it's a hassle to download them every time through protoup shit because I delete them aftetwards.
nvm, fixed it
You know you're a pathetic turd worlder when you have to falseflag in a linux thread
Played a little bit of modded Minecraft for New Years and a little bit of Monster Hunter on my Deck. I also picked up a dock so I can hook up my Deck to my PC, I've been really wanting one over the last few months since I've been sick in bed and hooking up and fiddling with a PC on a TV is a pain in the ass.
I'm kind of kicking myself for not getting a Steam Controller way back when. I kind of poo poo'ed on it back in the day but admittedly didn't spend a lot of time with it and after getting accustomed to the Deck I'm anxiously awaiting the day they make a new controller.
I just want the Deck layout as a controller, I love the touchpads and for navigating a PC and playing mouse centric games it's great.
>troony hugbox thread

I'm a conservative, stupid.
It's because the creators of Linux have openly made it clear they believe in communist ideals.

>Although generally supportive of President Hugo Chávez, Stallman has criticised some policies on television broadcasting, free speech rights, and personal privacy rights, in meetings with Chávez and in public speeches in Venezuela.
>I'm skeptical of that picture, because on March 4, Greg Palast reported that Chavez had done something very sensible: he had raised taxes on oil being exported from Venezuela (from 16% to 32%, I have read elsewhere) to pay for social programs. In other words, he insisted that the rich countries that buy the oil must let Venezuela, a poor country, have a substantial share of the value of that oil.

No, you explain how linux isnt unix emulator

Yes, Crapcoms other RE-engine games work. Denuvo is going to be a multiplier if any potential problems arise as you can lock yourself out of the game for debugging.
Alright thanks.
no you won't, start saving for mandatory AI hardware and windows 12 subscription
pros and cons of lutris or heroic? i use lutris but am wondering how easy it will be if i get cyberpunk dlc to work, also dealing with cloud saves is quite annoying
>i use lutris but am wondering how easy it will be if i get cyberpunk dlc to work
Why? If you are talking about installing dlcs, you click the game and at the bottom you select "Run EXE inside wine prefix", select the dlc exe and install it.
wow im dumb, had no idea that little submenu existed, pretty cool. it even has a winetrick button, i was doing that shit thru the terminal manually to install dlls for some games lol. thanks.
Tbh if you know the winetricks package names it is faster than using the GUI, specially if you use the "-q" flag as it makes it so you don't have to interact with the installation wizard
>wow im dumb
Don't worry, not many people seem to know about it, that's why you have people complaining about modding on linux all the time. You can just install a mod manager through that as well.
2023 wasn't a very good year for legal source code releases.
Im very new to linux. I partitioned a drive to put mint on my hd and allocated about half of my 1tb. I dont know if I fricked up though, because the only place that my steam games seem to be able to download onto is a specific folder near my root computer folder called Home, which unline every other folder seems to have its own allocated memory cap at about 10gb. Was this a mistake in the partitioning process? How do I remedy this? And why does such a folder restriction happen for only this folder that I cannot seem to alter the filepath for my downloaded games?
Also am I just an idiot and can use the data of the games stored on the windows side of my hd, or are those files just incompatible?
/home/ is where all user files get stored
it's the equivalent of C:users
your personal user directory is gonna be in /home/homosexual/
>which unline every other folder seems to have its own allocated memory cap at about 10gb.
I think mint by default only creates a single partition for the entire system. It's somewhat common to put your home on its own partition but not with so little memory. you should open a terminal and type lsblk -f and make sure the partitions make sense to you
Yeah mint usually just puts it all on / UNLESS you specify an 'advanced' install during installation. THEN it starts getting fancy with separate /var/ partitions and a different swap partition. But the space it allocates is usually baffling. I remember seeing /home/ being like 10 gb and /var/ being something like 50 with another 2 TB of the drive I was installing on being /.
You mean 20% performance increase
DXVK has been a fricking miracle.
DXVK is hilarious.
A few hobbist programmers trouncing the DirectX team without even having access to the raw,raw hardware.
And if you think about it, it's really not surprising.
Shit, that sounds exactly the problem I'm having. Do I have to reinstall or will repartitioning be a simpler fix?
First, check gparted and see just how much space /home actually has allocated to it. It's possible that you may be hitting up against space limitations elsewhere instead (IIRC Most package managers and even Steam will store temporary files in /var/, sometimes just removing those or using apt's autoclean will fix it.
If it turns out the installer only did give you about 10 GB, you can resolve this by merging partitions and specifying that in fstab. That's a little advanced so you may be better off going with the flatpak option and seeing if Steam bumps up against the limit when it's writing to its own little Flatpak sandbox.
Chaotic Neutral is just running steam in Sudo and making another directory in root called 'Games', putting everything there. Nothing stops this from happening, and it will use space from the root directory instead of your home directory. You can even set it to be readable + writable by all users and just never think about it again.
>this is insecure
eh. I argue the same thing about running Wine in general with the Z: drive like
asked, but everyone does it.
Ok, I'll reexamine it, thank you.
I didn't evenly split it, I think my Windows partition has ~511GB, when I'm wxamining my folders I notice a 511gb drive is recognized which I assume is just beyond the partition, and the rest was what I made for the linux so it should be around 480GB, but I remember I had to make some other partition that ate a portion of the remains. Perhaps allocating that Home folder is what that was. Forgive my ignorence, I did this at 1am following a youtube tutorial
I will totally affirm you in saying I did indeed partition through the mint installer.
Im not at my machine rn but this sounds quite accurate to what I've seen and an experiencing. Don't remember if I selected advanced but I do remember giving the OS about 50gbs of the drive. I thought that would be storage specifically for OS files but that might have been my goof misunderstanding.
Adressing your latter ideaI have a general question, do all flatpack apps download off terminal commands, and if so do all terminal downloads mean they are flatpack apps by nature? I would have 0 qualms with just redownloading and relogging into steam, but if I am better off repartitioning get the feeling I may as well do that asap before getting much else onto this partition.
I saw the option but the ability to actually select any of those folders was disabled in the selection menu. Thank you as well, it seems repartitioning is going to be in the cards. I just worry about having to delete or lose things in the process
>Adressing your latter ideaI have a general question, do all flatpack apps download off terminal commands
No, in fact most can be downloaded and updated straight from Mint's software installer. I don't use the terminal for Flatpak and IIRC I don't think I ever have.
I have, however, downloaded .flatpak files and installed them that way.
Windows partitions are such a fricking nightmare, dude. One day in the near future, windows is just gonna wipe out your boot partition with a massive middle finger for daring to use linux. I highly recommend you reinstall to a separate drive and spare yourself that headache. Just do the baby mode default install with a single partition for the entire drive next time.
>Thank you as well, it seems repartitioning is going to be in the cards.
If that's too much of a headache, I still recommend considering just making a Games folder on a partition with some space (check with du -h)
>I dont know if I fricked up though, because the only place that my steam games seem to be able to download onto is a specific folder near my root computer folder called Home, which unline every other folder seems to have its own allocated memory cap at about 10gb
Welcome to not letting the Mint installer partition your drive for you.
Real quick, go to terminal and type fdisk -l (lowercase L) /dev/sda
I am assuming your main hard drive is /dev/sda, that's the first drive in the list.
Or alternatively, open gparted and take a screenshot. We need to see your partition table.
What has happened is that Linux' system is divided into a tree. / is the 'root' directory, with the highest level of permissions possible. While /home/ is the directory for your user.
For an analog, think of /home like C:Users. It's the folder that contains the folder that has your personal application data and desktop and documents in it.
By default, Mint only gives it 10% of the partition space if you choose 'Advanced'. Why? Because the installer is made for old grandmas who may not want more than 10gb of space on their user folder. But this is terrible if you play games.
The temporary solution if you don't want to fiddle with repartitioning, and you may find this weird: Is to install the flatpak version of Steam. It uses its own personal space inside of /var/ which I am guessing got more space than /home/ just from experience with the mint installer.
I thought Steam did have an option to change the game install location.
Anyway, Steam does not (and should not) run as root, so it can't install games to folders to which you don't have write access. Meanwhile, the only place where you have write access by default is /home/(You), and everything under it. If your home partition is too small to hold your games then maybe you could make a (You)-owned directory in the root partition and get Steam to install there. Otherwise look into resizing. I've never done it so I'll assume the other guys trying to help are not idiots.
>computer folder called Home,
HUH?
Everything you do as a user can only exist in /home/gay
Where gay is the name you have chosen
You should not write to /home/
if you make another user a new folder will be made in /home/
the rest of things outside /home/ are fricken system components.
>2024 is the year of Linux Gaming. What games are you looking forward to, kings?
I'm playing every Final Fantasy (except the MMO's). Done with I and II, halfway through III.
>8.9 hours
>halfway done
Man, those games sure seem a lot shorter than I remember when I played them as a kid.
Call me when gayming in linux isn't an automatic 20% performance loss
No one will call you for the same reason no one asked for your thoughts. This thread is for Linux users.
Linux is already beating Windows in some games.

So be butthurt about it. Seethe and shit your pants.
You're very mad about me stating this very simple observation. Curious...
Why would I be mad? You're arguing with a meme. Not my problem. Enjoy your poopy pants.

sorry what? I couldn't hear you over the sound of you slurping down my fart
So how's the nvidia support?
Nvidia support is however well they're supporting Vulkan this patch. Vulkan is vulkan. The driver woes you read about is trying to incorporate DX12 driver blobs into Linux.
But that's changing:
https://www.collabora.com/news-and-blog/news-and-events/introducing-nvk.html
How good is NVK?
https://www.phoronix.com/news/Nouveau-NVK-One-Win
>Pierre-Loup Griffais of Valve's Linux team shared this weekend that on his system he's found one game (Hat In Time) where the Mesa NVK open-source Vulkan driver delivers better performance than NVIDIA's official proprietary driver.
By the middle of this year, Linux will support Nvidia cards better than Nvidia's own drivers thanks to NVK.
Basically what he said
I recommend checking the PC Gaming Wiki for older games, it usually has the required patches listed.
>This claim is based on no discernible evidence.
You had best start believing in the year of Linux Gaming.
you're in it
>r6 siege
I can't even run this shit on linux cause ubisoft is homosexuals
That said I've never heard of a "Strange Brigade" before.
DId anyone play picrel successfully? I am trying to install this classic on Lutris but it crashes as soon as it launches
>but it crashes as soon as it launches
I just played this recently both on Linux and Windows. Here's the problem: it crashes on Windows, too. It uses ancient DirectX 7(?) APIs and assumes you have a voodoo compatible card, which no one does anymore.
You need to install either openglide or dgvoodoo into your wine prefix. Lutris should have an option in settings to use dgvoodoo which you should take. See if it launches and then you can configure dgvoodoo standalone by opening its configuration program to fine-tune the specifics.
If that doesn't work, install the 'Modern Patch' for Porshe Unleashed. Just like NFS 3 and High stakes, someone made a patch for it on Windows that uses Openglide. https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2708-veroks-verokster-need-for-speed-v-porsche-unleashed-patch-v106/
Also if anyone asks: The person who made that, Verok, is the same person who made the NFS3 and HS patches and is highly trusted even if it seems like you're downloading a bunch of .exes to run in your possibly-exposed wine prefix.
Thanks anon!
After installing Verokster patch the game launches fine without dgvoodoo enabled but I get horrible framerate. Is this something that I just need to live with?
What do anons think about heroic launcher compared to lutris?
I don't use it. I know it's better in some applications but I haven't found one where just using Lutris.
That said, I hear it's really good if you use GoG/Epic Game Store to a large degree.
No, absolutely not. that's because the patch using a wrapper that's misconfigured. You need to configure Thrash in that case or point it to a different renderer, there are four to choose from in the root folder of your Porshe Unleashed directory and I think an nfs5.ini file that should have a line that says 'ThrashDriver=nglide', you need to go into the 'drivers' folder and see which wrapper works best for your system. My linux install of it used dgvoodoo, my windows install uses nglide.
Oh I didn't mention: Thrash is the patcher that the creator used to add in the glide wrappers to Porshe Unleashed, and one of its neat features is you can specify in the .ini file for the game which one you want to use. By simplying changing the name from ThrashDriver=nglide to one of the names specified in the drivers directory, it selects that glide wrapper from your game.
according to the wiki, you have these options to choose from for that ThrashDriver line
dx7 - Thrash API v107 renderer for DirectX 7 - patched by VEG
glide3x - Thrash API v107 renderer for Glide 3 - patched by Verok
nglide - Thrash API v107 renderer for nGlide v1.05 wrapper
opengl1 - Thrash API v107 renderer for OpenGL 1.1 - developed by Verok
opengl3 - Thrash API v107 renderer for OpenGL 3.0 - developed by Verok
Thank you so much anon, setiing it to nglide fixed my framerate issue
Awesome, have fun anon. It's an amazing experience that EA won't give back to us anymore holy shit I hate EA
Heroic seems better than lutris in many ways but I despise that there's no global wine sandboxing, so every prefix will dump shit into $HOME until you manually enable sandboxing for each prefix. Even then lutris can create an arbitrary sandbox you can centrally manage your saves and shit.
with Lutris you have to extract each version in ~/lutris/whatever and select it like in Steam with proton-ge
wdym? Lutris can download wine along other runners automatically from hamburger menu/preferences/sources
what game is that?
That's Damocles Mercenary 2
Somewhere in my box of pins, i have a BR tux pin. It's cute. I still don't use Linux, but I'll support any merch with Tux on it.
tuxracer is hardly gaming, thinkpad poojeets.
I guess the confusion in this emulator argument comes from not having experience with renderers before and understanding that EVERYTHING you see on a computer screen goes through a translation layer of some sort, and that being able to write directly to video memory disappeared in the 90's.
Holy frick, shut up dorks. Who cares if it's an emulator?
It works and I'm going to use it regardless.
Emulators are fundamentally emulating the hardware, not the software that the hardware is running. What a dumb fricking argument.
Techlets arguing about tech is like blind people arguing about their favorite colors. It's a daily routine on Ganker.
installing windows 10 on my new build
Be sure to use LTSC

If the Windows 12 leaks are true, then Windows 12 might blow any Linux distro out of the water.
>MacOS style dock instead of a task bar while keeping the start menu
>Top banner with the clock and notifications in the style of a smart phone
>Widgets return but are actually useful
Yeah and it will be stored on a server, requiring full time internet connection and locked behind a subscription.

for shoving more ads in my face maybe
So, in your mind, people use Linux because Windows 11 doesn't have a MacOS-style dock and a smartphone-style notification bar...? Weird but okay.
What I find funny about this argument is that Gnome has had a Dock since before OS9 had one.
But no one looks at this shit and thinks "WOW! THIS WILL BLOW WINDOWS OUT OF THE WATER!" They look at this and think "Wow what an ugly fricking smartphone Desktop".
Literally Thing: 😐 Thing, Microsoft: :0
I think Gnome can look nice if you're like Windows and Applegays and only take pictures of your desktop when you're not doing anything.
>MacOS style dock instead of a task bar while keeping the start menu
That's a negative. I don't use Windows to use MacOS. If I want to use a Mac, I can afford a mac.
Windows is going down the wrong path trying to out-Apple Apple and it fricking sucks because the end-result is always more bloat the user has to strip out if they want to use their windows system like a Windows machine
>clueless
look at what they need to mimic the fraction of our power
>MacOS style dock instead of a task bar while keeping the start menu
>Top banner with the clock and notifications in the style of a smart phone
>Widgets return but are actually useful
I wonder if the Windows posters in these threads realize, for even a brief second, that if their OS becomes a locked-down smartphone or a walled garden like MacOS or iOS then none of their games will work and they'll be crawling over to Linux to beg for help migrating. Literally every major change since Windows 10 that Microsoft tried to impose on the user has the first step of being stripped out of any new Install like Cortana, but they think THIS TIME, it'll be different.

Are there any linux themed diapers? I want to wear themed diaps when hopping on the linux cord.
None, nothing good is coming out, change my mind
