>$400
Where will you be when Steam renders all playstation and xbox consoles obsolete?
I’ll be in your dads bed
OP immediately rekt. I’m actually exiting the thread now, there is nothing more of substance that this thread can offer after this brutal humiliation.
>$400
lol
Modern SteamDeck hardware, updated to 2024 specs, with better cooling, no touchscreen, battery. They could probably outdo the PS5 for $300.
Even with Windows licensing fees? And even if you don't include that I still think you're exaggerating
windows licensing would add another $100 on top ez
part of the reason the Steam Deck is as cheap as it is is because it very specifically comes with linux and nothing else
an *actual* set-top box only steam deck would probably be $300 to $350 assuming it came with a controller
Damn I'm so jealous of kids who make up a hardware and slap a random price on it without the slightest care of the actual cost of things.
>probably outdo the PS5 for $300
Lmao. Steam Deck hardware aims to run games at 720p (often more like 540p with upscaling) and 30fps.
PS5 aims for 1440p or 4k and 60fps, by being many times more powerful than the Steam Deck. Nothing in 2024 is coming remotely close to beating it for just $300
How did you read that post and yet cut out everything it said until the PS5 for $300 bit?
PS5 aims for 1440p and offers 4K as an illogical novelty option
He's right. Without the screen, battery, etc the hardware would be cheap.
>mobo 100$
>shit cpu 100$
>psu and case 32gb ram and a hdd 175$
That leaves a 75$ debt for a gpu. Now what gpu can you buy for a 75 dollar refund that can keep up with a ps5?
Fake, but we need a "console that's a PC" to become mainstream. Steam Deck was a huge step in the right direction, but if we can make it a competitor on par with Playstation or Nintendo, it'd be revolutionary.
Would be great, but valve is basically busy.
The only problem would be it would likely make sony a lot less enthusiastic about PC. But the desire for money may prevent this from being a real issue.
Not only Sony, Microsoft most likely wouldn't be happy at a console that makes the Xbox obsolete. Sure they can put GP on it but Valve would get all the 30% MTX sales that would have otherwise went to Microsoft.
There is a good balance now. The moment PC become the new consoles, it's over. Expect every aspect of games to be locked down and say goodbye to mods forever.
Most AAA games don't have that many mods anyways, it only exists as long as the devs very intentionally want it.
Reverse engineering, emulation, and indies are the real future of mods.
There are two potential futures ahead of us. The one where Microsoft's vision succeeds and PC gaming is reduced to an Xbox and shackled to a subscription service. Or the one where Valve's vision succeeds and PC gaming becomes freed of Microsoft, to become its own self-sustaining platform but at the cost of potentially becoming a more niche platform.
Actually these two visions might happen at the same time. Microsoft's vision of the future is to be the spotify of gaming, and Valve's is to be the vinyl record.
>digital
>the vinyl record
mixtape
Gaming experience on local system == vinyl
vs
Gaming on remote systems == streaming
Man you're moronic. You really think steam is some how the good guy.
yeah anon 20 years of the same service with no real shitting on the consumer
they gotta be white devils
contrarian frickwit
>no real shitting in the customer
You being in denial or just being plain ignorant is the only thing you've proven here. They've been to court almost constantly for doing anti consumer shit. Most basic being they charge hard copy price for the cheaper digital distribution.
>thinking yuro laws are good
>thinking someone should have the right to tell you what you can and can't do
frick off larry fink you little penis b***h
>homosexual thinks adhoms change that he's a corpo wiener sucker
>we shouldn't stop them from being buttholes or they'll be even bigger buttholes
You're a pussy. One of those homosexual doomers that think things only ever get worse. Hey you know how they get better? You fricking make them better. Idiot.
okay but you will never be a real woman nor a real game store timmy
>projecting your trans corpo homosexualry on others, thinking it pisses them off as much as it does you when people make fun of you being a troony
Get a job.
You do know that Volvo doesn't control the price AAA morons puts on their games right? I'm all for the EU fighting for the little man but them going to court with Valve over this is going to force them to become more dystopian, not less
Why do morons think that valve sets the price of games?
the same reason they think pakis and Blacks are harmless and will do nothing but good for society in europe
>obscure arguments
Steam owns your game licenses, not you, you only subscribe to use.
Steam sets exclusivity arrangements with devs and publishers preventing them from selling on another platform for cheaper.
Steam will now block use of games on win 7 even if the game works fine on win 7.
>wow, so lying, very made up
Fricking steam cucks need to be neutered
>Steam sets exclusivity arrangements with devs and publishers preventing them from selling on another platform for cheaper.
That only applies to Steam keys you moron.
Wow, look at those goalposts move. Steam still gets paid for them.
Yeah no shit. Valve takes zero cut from Steam keys and more successful games are allowed to generate a lot of em.
>steam takes zero cut from steam keys
Source. Cause uh.. Bullshit.
>Steam Keys are a free service we provide to developers as a convenient tool to help you sell your game on other stores and at retail
Valve literally provides their own competition. It's not just steam sales, valve is also why sites like humble and fanatical are so damn cheap. I haven't bought anything directly off steam in ages because it's almost always cheaper somewhere else thanks to all the free keys valve provides.
moron
Get your dick cut off already homosexual.
stop projecting
it's not healthy
>thinking this is projecting when it's a demand that someone as moronic as you should never breed
Bit Freudian there.
Because they're moronic
valve does nothing but set up the date and the artwork for the sale and this has been true for 12 years
they couldn't even give away games today if they wanted to because everyone and their mother owns all their games but they still gave away hl1 for the idiots who live under a rock
There are legitimately very few arguments one can make against Valve without outright lying, and outright lying is way easier than having one of those obscure arguments.
>You really think steam is some how the good guy.
They allow Linux to actually be viable for gaming and Steam Deck OLED is one of the most impressive hardware for the price it has. I don't really care when literally every other alternative is way fricking worse.
>Steam Deck OLED is one of the most impressive hardware for the price it has.
No thats would be anonymous legion go
still more good than Tim being his hook nosed israelite self and sony publishing movies with barely enough QTEs to qualify as interactive experiences
Compared to microsoft? Frick yes they are.
>Microsoft's vision of the future is to be the spotify of gaming, and Valve's is to be the vinyl record.
Well put, anon.
>Valve's vision
Ah yes, steam os on everything, all your library is on steam where they can do what the frick they want to do with you. Can't wait!
They should get linux working 100% before even bothering to get into console territory
that's not possible without the other
the steam deck exists to push linux
>we need perfectly good thing to become too mainstream
You're either too young or you never learn.
If they market it right it's game over for PlayStation and Microsoft. They'll both become Stadia tier stream boxes with forever subscriptions to their game service. Microsoft was already floating that idea recently
>Stadia tier stream boxes
You realise this is what steam wants to do, right? They don't want you to have local access to games because then you can circumvent their controls. It's only forced by hardware restrictions at the moment. But once that's no longer an issue, good bye to ever owning games or having unrestricted or non real time monitoring of your actions.
>homosexuals that unironically support this should be rounded up and fired into the sun
>Normies can play COD and FIFA at their TV, but with cheap steam games always available
But COD and FIFA isn't compatible with SteamOS and forcing casuals to use Windows would be moronic. I'd like a buffed AMD APU that you could connected to the TV, would prefer that over an Xbox or PS.
>"cheap"
>haven't ever lowered their prices despite digital distro being cheaper
>force devs to sign pricing exclusivity deals to prevent devs from selling their own game cheaper than on steam, including for charity events like humble bundle
Frick steam. Frick valve. Frick Gaben
It would never dualboot windows by default. It would have the option maybe but the whole point is that valve doesn't want to be beholden, or stuck to MS' bullshit requirements.
steam controller 2 waiting room day 2000
sorry chuds, no one will ever outfox the god that is sony
I would just be a PC with Ryzen 8700G and 780m iGPU?
It would be the same as ROG ally(7840u) graphic wise
I would buy the shit out of that
>a pc for people too dumb to plug thier exitsing pc into a tv
they already tried this
>Dualboots Windows
If it comes preloaded it would spike the price too much due to licencing
A 'DeckTV' might be an interesting if not niche companion system to the Deck 2 if that ever appears
OEM windows licenses are like 20 dollars in bulk.
Windows is free
OEM Windows contracts come with a ton of strings attached, like agreeing to a patent license on any systems sold with any OSes other than Windows that costs more than the Windows license.
There is no way Valve would sign that, or that any OEM who has agreed to it would sell a system with a dual-boot set up in advance since it would violate the terms of their agreement.
Then of course there is the issue that if you ship Windows on a device, you need beefier hardware that can run Windows well, which is going to mean the hardware will cost more too.
lmao what moron would want to dual boot? There is literally zero reason to run linux if given the alternative. Damn /r/pcmasterrace is dumb as shit.
didn't I see an advert for this in like 2014?
why are valve drones so delusional?
Why do fake pc homosexuals keep trying to ruin it for actual pc gays. Stay in your lane console mutt and quit trying to drag us down with you
I mean, this could be pretty sweet, I'm thinking of doing something like this already, get one of those mini PCs, which obviously don't have the most amazing hardware, but I don't play many new and/or demanding titles anyways, put it on the living room, get some controllers, and done.
Yes, it is easy to build or select systems that can provide a console-style experience with ChimeraOS or other similar GNU/Linux distribution.
I wish companies would try making a console sized form factor pc instead of shitty deck clones.
There are a bunch of mini barebones PCs out there in the market now from groups like Minisforum.
>steam controller
I hope they modify it. The hardware itself is fine but it desperately needs a good dpad and to change the touchpad clicks. I would just entirely replace the analog sticks with touchpads, personally. Maybe add analog nubs towards the center as retrofits.
When the new Steam Controller arrives it will almost certainly use the same "Neptune" layout as the Steam Deck. There has been at least one image that got released of a Valve Neptune gamepad.
I think they're just being super conservative to see if Microsoft sends any patent trolls after them again this time before they commit to a new controller.
I could absolutely see this happening in the next year or two - maybe alongside the next generation of Deck.
What’s stopping me from just installing steamOS on a gaming pc and connecting it to my tv?
that it's not a real OS yet
but you could always just use nobara kde instead
it's practically the same thing
It is, the problem is steamOS is largely designed for shitboxes and handhelds.
In a proper desktop steamOS doesn't shine particularly well. They keep adding features to the branches distributed to the deck, but hte ones pushed out months apart for desktop are usually a full year behind in features.
Nothing, but you need to build the system to run SteamOS, basically just by using similar hardware (RDNA2 or RDNA3). There are some other similar distributions (basically community versions of SteamOS like ChimeraOS) that have slightly broader hardware support, but to get the 'console' experience you want hardware with good, mature, open source drivers.
Windows
Why would they do this, numbnut
Gachafrickers.
Windows
ltsc?
If not you are clueless or legit moron.
I DONT GIVE A FRICK ABOUT A STEAMBOX OR A STEAM MACHINE
BUT IF THAT MEANS A STEAM CONTROLLER 2.0 TO COME ALONGSIDE IT THEN FRICK IT
That controller looks like shit
it's great
based
>steam controller 2
where is it
I do think it's inevitable at this point. Valve is positioned to dominate, they've cracked the code with the convenience of a console and the power and freedom of a PC and are just polishing it up for prime time to be as braindead easy to use as normalgays need it to be.
The future is PC.
>connect steam deck to TV with HDMI
>instant console
Why go through the pain of making a new console?
>steam deck can barely handle 4k for any game
it's not a great experience
you don't need 4k
you only need 1080p
rendering 4k is absurdly stupid and just wasteful of hardware not even game devs attempt to run 4k except for indie shit and 2d shit
agreed but it will never stack up to a real console with that argument
because the steam deck has limitations in the same way the nintendy switch does where it needs to be a handheld first and have console functionality secondarily.
I expect it will be as successful as the steam deck and sell all of 3 million units. All Valve hardware flops. PS store price matches Steam on all big games, they will get fricked if they try
Is that why everyone is talking about the big ps store sale going on right now?
That's just a reflection of the board, Steam hasn't been especially cheap in years. Consoles work on scale and a Valve console wouldn't get the scale like all their physical products, it would be an expensive flop.
It's a reflection of how many games are on steam and how many deals there are. On sony's store you pick between a ps4 or a ps5 version and even combined there's far less on offer and many games aren't on sale, like a randomly looked up mirror's edge and it's $20 on ps, but $2 on steam.
If it were sony driving the price down and forcing their competition to match it it'd be a different story for them. As is they're being forced to be competitive by steam.
God i would cum if they release an SC 2.
I'm very very hopeful they get around to it, I would legit drop every other controller I'm using and shill for the SC2 in a heartbeat.
I just hope they go whole hog on it. The Deck doesnt have dual stage triggers so I hope those make a come back.
A Deck 2.0/SteamBox 2.0 combo could easily eat up most of the laptop/miniPC/PC handheld space.
Valve should go for it tbh.
they already made a deck 2
It's not though is it, Steam Deck OLED is not touching the combined sales of all laptops capable of gaming. They can't compete with Microsoft on hardware price, Series S is currently $199 in the US which is a very cheap entry point for COD and game pass and they definitely can't compete with the brand power of Playstation. It would end up being another niche product
Hundreds of millions of laptops get sold each year. And prebuilts do well too.
Carving out a healthy niche for that is easily doable. Hell. The 'eck is already halfway there.
your plan is great except FIFA morons don't even know half the words you just said and just want to push button to play the football game or use a disc if they can't figure that part out
You don't own steam games

just bought another game on Steam to spite you.
piracy is a meme and relies on torrenting which only works if you put yourself at risk unless you pay for a vpn which may as well also not work
paying 5-20$ for a game is nothing and lets you get downloads and updates without any headaches
the only logical excuse is just being poor
steam does not even take games away from you
Torrents suck ass these days, and private-tracker mongoloids are even worse about their VIP pass to obscure old anime than ever before. Direct downloads coincidentally are very viable *and* your ISP doesn't give a shit what you're direct downloading so long as it isn't CP.
Emulation is great for everything not on pc, but I'll pirate if and when valve does something utterly inexcusable like starts removing games from libraries. Until then they provide the better service.
>Dualboots Windows
no thanks
They can just take that custom apu from amd installed in xbox ses
And bam
...you know that they literally already did this right? the very picture you uploaded is a steam machine that had a custom steam interface on top of windows where itd start you in console mode and let you go into desktop, just like the deck. it flopped. i had one.
I'm gonna be real. I bought the Alpha 2014 original model and I loved the alpha. I still use it as an under the TV box loaded with 8tbs of movies and emulators. It's more than paid for its $500 investment back in
It wasn't a bad machine at all and I still use it, I have to clue why everybody in "the gaming community" was taking a turbo shit on it.
you can't sell anything more complex to operate than the tik tok app. 90% of the planet is too stupid to use indoor plumbing.
you guys vastly underestimate how averse to ANY amount of tinkering the average person is
Not really. I bet anything that's the reason valve still isn't trying to push the deck with any real marketing or retail presence beyond steam. They're going to wait until they can get it to about as simple a console experience as it gets and then it's game over. Doesn't even have to be from valve either, any other company pushing their umpc is going to want to gun for that, valve is just in the best position to do so.
Windows
they would never do thatn gabe hates windows with a passion. that's pretty much the entire reason steam machines, steam os and then steam deck exist.
Just wait for the ps6. Between that and your phone you won’t want a pc. 🙂
>let's turn pc gaming into consoles
No, this is the reason why pc is the way that is dumb homosexuals.
>uhmmmm ashukally you shouldn't improve things just because
>things should stay shit forever
go back to Ganker sweaty because you failed basic computering

>steam deck 2 releases years from now

shit console
I look forward to it coming out a year or so after the switch 2, if the switch 2 ever comes out any time this century, and mogging the hell out of nintendo again.
>immediately resorts to seethe and rent free nintendo
buck broken lmao
Everyone knows it's you lot who come in here crying about the deck outclassing the switch in every way.
Sad! The absolute state of valvies.
I just want a new Steam controller. Ever since I got my Steam Deck my old Steam Controller has felt inadequate with no D-pad and only one analogue stick. It's still good for some games but the Steam Deck is good for basically every type of game.
They arent gonna release a new box.
They already have a testbed for their software with the deck, and that's whats gonna release (again)to replace windows with their proton/wine infrastructure.
>what is Deckard
steam should create custom 'steam-verfied' builds with verified hardware. preloaded with steamos, ready to go.
you want 4k120, put a 4090 in there.
you want 1080p, 4070.
dorks can open them up and put in extra storage or replace the gpu if needed.
Windows
