In a fricking pirate game, in a time where murder and rape was rampant, and oh, slavery
Ubisoft decided to cash in and take a contract with the Singapore government that gave them a big tax break but in return they had to put out a standalone game with the studio they had there. The executives and producers they sent over to handle it basically treated it as a paid vacation, doing nothing but sit on their asses their entire day slaving away the locals to come up with something. Cut to a few years later where the game had completely been scrapped twice and there was absolutely nothing to show for it, yet they had to fulfill their obligation in the contract. Many of the senior and lead locals had left out of frustration with their management, so now the studio is in all practical sense a sweatshop where they hire bright-eyed graduates hoping to work at a big name gamedev studio and squeeze them dry so that they can finally shit this game out.
It actually has less combat detail and fewer features than AC4 naval combat from what I've seen, they'd have been better off just completely shitcanning it and taking the tax write-off

Bought myself? Anno 1800 or Ghost Recon Breakpoint (for $10). But I've gotten other recent ones like Far Cry 6, AC Valhalla, and Frontiers of Pandora as gifts. I don't think I'll ever buy another Ubisoft game for above $10-$15. They don't make good games. Their soulless, copypasted formula is nauseating.

Also, each time they reinvented it they also reinvented the setting because creative could never agree on whether it should be a historical fiction game or a complete fantasy alternate timeline setting.
These games are filled with blacks, and they probably spend years designing and redesigning their hair until it's not racist to them, I could actually see this, modern devs are doing something really weird thats killing one out of every 2 studios they get hired at
