You know, just because people say it a lot doesn't mean it isn't kind of true.
Sonic's overall game quality is a fricking roller coaster with the 3D games.
The move to 3D is the first game that does it, so SA1, and SA1 did a good job of it. The transition to 3D ended there. Unless they mean 3D Blast and the cancelled Saturn game but both of those were made in the west and not the original team and SA1 would've been the first fully polygonal game anyway.
Still my favorite 3D Sonic. I think it feels better to play one character's whole story at once. Getting taken out of the main flow of the Sonic stages to do an emerland hunt or mech mission feels bad, which is why I don't go back to 2 very often.
>Hubs
Serve their purpose, though it can be a little dull going through the motions after the first time. >Sonic
Great controls and level design across the board outside of the casino level being a little tedious. Not a fan of its final boss personally. A >Tails
Just Sonic stages but you're overpowered due to flight and you skip some sections of it for brevity. Fun to breeze through. B >Knuckles
More interesting reuse of Sonic stages because of the emerald hunt, the radar is way better than in SA2 and it makes you look at the same locations differently, though the casino is still a little troublesome depending on where the spawns are. B+ >Amy
Short and sweet, I like the twist that you're being chased and I like her big hammer jump but her movement is overall worse than the others and some of the puzzles slow the pace even further. B- >Gamma
Absolute blast. Destroy Sonic's stages like a shooting gallery and then have a nice boss fight at the end before getting the best ending out of them all. Love the incentive to get the timer higher than the starting point by the end via destroying as much as possible. Great stuff even though it's objectively not as well-made as Sonic's story. A+ >Big
Slow-paced by design and a little frustrating but functional. Only falls apart trying to get B & A Ranks but to just do it to completion it works. Fishing out of Chaos is a cool boss gimmick. C+ >Final
Really just the Chaos fight but it's a solid setpiece fight set to a killer song. A-
it's the greatest sonic game ever created but the gap between it and literally every other sonic game would be even greater if it had sonic adventure 2's chao garden
Sonic Adventure 1 is the best 3D Sonic game that most accurately captures the spirit of the earlier 2D titles and successfully creates a rather fun, pretty good controlling game with just enough auto and enough manual sections that it never feels like you're too on rails (Like later titles) and never too loose and uncontrolled.
The music is better, the stages are better, and the characters are (Overall) better than any future 3D Sonic title. There's something palpable about the optimism, hopes and dreams that went into SA1 that you don't get in future titles.
The story is classic Sonic, the setting, despite being "New" with the humans and such, fits in really well, it's really an amazing game, and I wish developers had as much excitement to put into games as they did with SA1.
I remember seeing it at a kiosk in 1999, shit was fricking mindblowing compared to PS1 and N64. Dreamcast really was insanely ahead of its time. The orca segment looked stunning. The game itself is decent, though I prefer 2.
Crank Up the Heat is an exciting bop, but Mechanical Resonance definitely stands out more with that grimy funky guitar. Not the best track in the game though.

Hard disagree, but you've shown good taste now, so I'll let it slide.
I think we can all agree that it's a shame Jun never attempted to reach a pinnacle like this ever again.
It's because Sonic Adventure (and the Dreamcast in general) was the peak of millenial (as in turn-of-the-millenium) optimism. There's just a certain vibe there that will never be replicated again, a genuine love of life.
>Have anything nice to say about it?
even though i didn't grow up with sonic, i was playing more of Crash Warped and CTR and also Spyro 3 at the time, i do appreciate it doing something different with Sonic, i never really played much sonic games til much later like basically to catch up on what the series to see what it was about i do like how it tried to incorporate a story and even had it's own music made for the game like open your heart which is a total bop and gets you hyped for the game plus the character themes, i also love how the game has a very late 90s feel to it that no other game i have played has or maybe there are which i haven't played it but it really gives me a feel of nostalgia i though i never had and i know a lot of people complain about the game being very buggy at points but i did not have no problems when i played the pc version with the Dreamcast conversion mod and honestly it's a real neat game, im not sure what else to say i do remember my cousin and a next door neighbor of mine having the game and being intrigued but i also was too busy wanting to finish parappa the rapper to really play it at the time
Got this and House of the Dead 2 for Christmas 99. Didn't get a VMU so I remember just learning Sonic's story and getting a little bit further each time I played. Good times. Feels like a lifetime ago.
Sonic... had a difficult transition... into 3D... to say the least...
He will never pass.

What video is this even taken from? The dear seega one?
All of them
ROLLING AROUND AT THE SPEED OF SOUND
I think Open Your Heart is a really cool song and I like a lot of Sonic and Tails’ stages.

2 is better
The soundtrack is superior to SA2 and is one of the top 10 in the franchise.

my favourite game, 2 sucks balls
it's the greatest sonic game ever created but the gap between it and literally every other sonic game would be even greater if it had sonic adventure 2's chao garden
It's inferior to Super Mario 64 in every way
FRICK Mario and FRICK you!
Sonic is so much COOLER than Mario! I HATE Mario!

nah
This, Sonic Adventure 1 is the only game that got 3D right.
Starting with SA2 every game is just hold forward through billions of hallways
Zoomers first Sonic game.

best song in the franchise
I really appreciated when a rendition of this played in The Murder Of Sonic The Hedgehog right before the climax.
Why do Sonic fans get so uppity when talking about Frontiers, it’s not like you had a good track record of good games
I remember seeing it at a kiosk in 1999, shit was fricking mindblowing compared to PS1 and N64. Dreamcast really was insanely ahead of its time. The orca segment looked stunning. The game itself is decent, though I prefer 2.
I still remember playing it during Christmas break 1999.
Once every few years I beat this game and still love most of it (Big and Amy are boring)
Insane how Sonic didn't have a proper mainline title throughout the saturn's lifespan, Sega was so fricking moronic they killed themselves.
Blame Yuji Naka for sabotaging the Sonic X-treme team by not letting them use the NiGHTS engine.
Fantastic soundtrack
>first Final Egg track

>Sonic was never good.
>N-no, I w-won't explain w-why, alright? Sonic w-was just never good, ok?
Soulfull game despite what contrarians say. Better than Adventure 2 btw
Nothing makes me feel more nostalgic for some reason, not even the sonic games which I also had on mega drive.

It's fricking shit compared to sonic adventure 2
i did not liked it
Best 3D Sonic and it isn’t even close.
greatest game ever made, baby. always has been and always will be.
