I only played Silent Storm and old and nuCOM, is JA supposed to be different? Having actions points separated from movement feel unnatural. Except maybe having the ability to do both at the same time.

                Anonymous

No, JA works the same. From the JA2 manual:
"A mercenary's movement speed depends on their physique, energy level, and
the type of terrain. In combat, it also depends on the number of action points a merc has."
There is no separate pool for movement and shooting.

                Anonymous

By the way, a merc with a larger AP pool uses more APs for shooting. That way the amount of shots a slow and a fast character can make during one turn is the same. It's a small detail not everyone is aware of. Maybe that's what the other Anon meant?

                Anonymous

I think is the same as oldCOM, taking a percentage of your AP to shoot instead of a fixed number.

              Anonymous

But movement and shooting both use APs in JA1, DG, and JA2.

What bothers me is what the utility of burst fire is supposed to be. Also the general character design, the clothes don't fit the tropical setting and they are plain as frick. It's like some fat neckbeard who wears Metallica t-shirts, basic jeans and sport shoes with white socks designed them.

A few characters look alright Fidel, but most like Fortnite rejects. Nail constantly wearing a biker vest was a joke in the previous games, now Meltdown runs around with a leather jacket in an African battlefield and Thor wears flip-flops all the time. Why?

        >What bothers me is what the utility of burst fire is supposed to be
Higher damage, what the frick do you think? At 50% damage penalty for every bullet, a three round burst still hits for 150% of single shot damage, four round one for 200%.

        Devs weren't balancegays back then.

But it was balanced. The downside of bursting was lower accuracy than aimed shots and running through ammo quickly.

        Anonymous

        >How come the previous games did not have this problem?
Except they did. Due to the way chance-to-hit was calculated, autofire was next to useless at the usual firefight distances unless you were fighting very close. All thanks to progressing penalty per bullet that made shots more and more inaccurate deeper into the burst. There was no distinction between the burst and full auto too, so your merc could always let loose more bullets than you expected. It actually got even worse in 1.13 where the amount of accuracy bonuses they've added made single shots hit heads 100% of time but couldn't salvage automatic fire (hence why the development of NCtH began).

          Anonymous

you have to be moronic. autofires are inaccurate irl and only used in CQB or as suppressing fire, which is how it works in 1.13.

                >muh military
they still use full auto you moron.

            Anonymous

Except vanilla JA2 has absolutely no mechanics for suppression, and autofire IRL is inaccurate but controllable, a distinction that old chance-to-hit system does not make, your last bullets will go hog wild regardless of the shooter. And again, 1.13 devs had to invent its suppression mechanics to give some semblance of use to automatics and it still was not enough. New chance-to-hit system in 1.13 rectifies this by adding actual vertical and horizontal recoil to every gun that gets compensated by merc's strength, but the numbers used are pulled out of devs' collective asses and it's really easy to see why such a complex system would not be used in a commercial product.

I heard that the knife is the best weapon in the game. You can make a build where you just go and OHKO everyone with a knife AND get healed each time you do damage, and enemies absolutely can't do anything about it.

It's clearly not just the suits, suits wouldn't hinder developers from actually displaying cool shit about guns, like additional information, or great looking gear. No, these devs are clearly no-gun homosexuals who hate the idea of guns in general. Just look at the gun descriptions in JA3, frick.

      >They mentioned they did it so players stop approaching it like if it was nuCOM.
There was one stream by the devs where they said that Ian Currie (the original designer of JA1, DG, and JA2) told them that showing hit percentages is lame. Without the tard-wrangling by Currie the game would probably be unbearable shit.
