I have no reason to take my Steam Deck outdoors because if I'm outside, I'm doing important things like studying or socialising with friends. I would never pull it out in a bus, and I fly less than once or twice per year. My Steam Deck currently serves as my couch gaming system using a Dualsense, while my Xbox is a Hi-Fi and Ace Combat 6 machine. Plus, I live in a low-trust society and prefer not being robbed by browns.
If the Steam Deck could do 7th gen emulation well enough, then consoles will be dead to me because virtually everything worth playing will be either on PC or emulated.

That's what they disagreed with and considered archaic thinking. Games USED to sell hardware via exclusivity, to the detriment of the dev and publisher. Now it's reversed to the benefit of the dev to spread their game as wide as possible while still having some perks on the native console. That's how the future is going to be. this only comes after catastrophic decisions made on both sides (e3 2013 and ballooning first-party budgets) over the past decade. let's not pretend that the customer pivoted them in that direction

Compete how exactly? They're more dependent on hardware sales than PS and Xbox is, they put all their eggs on that one basket. A basket of which is declining significantly.

Yes, but porting to Switch is a very auxiliary market. PC is the main market now. Xbox saw that first and for them to generate an edge, they port ALL of their first-party games to PC of which the market is growing exponentially and is exponentially larger. PS firsthand saw this with Helldivers 2. This is the future.

Playstation is still stuck in the classic exclusivity thinking. It is only recently they started porting games to PC where Xbox has already pushed themselves into. It should start to dawn on people that hardware sales don't actually matter.

Nobody in the podcast has said they are pulling out of the hardware market. That was a rumour. They literally just confessed that hardware sales are a losing market and that PC is where all the money is.
