3+ ogres in every single room starts to wear thin pretty quickly. I get that they finally had a physics engine and true 3D environments unlike DooM and they needed to show those things off but it's just not nearly as fun.

isn't there some trick to beating ogres easily? do they have a weakness? i can't remember.
Agreed. Episode 4 is the best because it uses zombies as the common enemy instead. Quake could be vastly improved by making both the player and the enemies do double damage at all times.
Quad damage.
I never had trouble with ogres. Just dodge their grenades, or bait them into a chainsaw attack.
Quickest way to get them is two rockets or four SSG blasts.
yeah, i think the strat i heard for these guys was to bait the chainsaw attack.

you can melt ogres with the nailgun. shambies gotta be killed with the lightning gun and rockets.
Uh shamblers take half damage from explosives
you can fire off two grenade in 0.6 seconds, and get both back from a backpack dropped by the ogre
don't they have some resistance to grenades? or is that shamblers?
quake's single player sucks

The game can be completed in a couple of hours, the mission packs are not particularly good either.

Maybe uhhh, if the ogres were female and you could frick them instead of killing them it wouldn't be so boring.

First expansion pack was way better because more weapons and enemies with less health.

Weapons in Quake suck ass, you can see they turned the game into an FPS very late into the development stage. Enemies are OK, nothing groundbreaking
Quake doesn't seem as impressive anymore because other games built on it making drastic improvements. Anything you see in FPS games today was done by Quake first in one way or another. Heck, Overwatch 2 is something from one of the Quake games (which is what Team Fortress is).
having good fun in Quake really depends on having good levels
truth is original levels used to blow my mind in 90s, but there are better options now, and today they just leave an "OK" impression
