whats the FE order after awakening? do i go into fates or echoes

Strange Journey Redux if you haven't played the original. I'd do at least one run avoiding the bonus dungeon entirely.
Devil Survivor 2 is fine if you don't mind the influence from Persona creeping in. I'd say it's worse than DS1, but still worth a try.
Rune Factory 4 unless you'd rather play the Switch version.
        Stella Glow

Echoes is a remake of an older game, you can just play it whenever.

Fates came after Awakening and uses most of the same kinds of mechanics (but radically rebalanced), Echoes came after Fates but is completely different.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3Ds. Doesn't have the aesthetic and soundtrack decline of the Switch rerelease.

Fire Emblem Fates Birthright. Has great aesthetics and music and likeable characters, and the story got me a little teary eyed towards the end. The missions are basic so play on higher difficulties if you want challenge.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. They are not faithful remakes of the original games so you play those first, but what ORAS does bring to the table is a lot of content and easy access to almost all of the Pokemon that had been released up until that point.

Seconding these and adding the dragon quest remakes

      Anonymous

I refuse to believe this is a serious recommendation. Birthright is trash, ORAS is still mogged by Emerald and Xenoblade 3DS is a fricking travesty.

        Anonymous

ORAS is missing the great Emerald content, but it also has some of the best QoL features of any pokemon game, a nice look, and great music.

        >Xenoblade 3DS is a fricking travesty.
Why? its a full wii game running on the 3ds, its fricking impressive. Sure its obsolete with the remaster, but its still cool.

          Anonymous

It is an impressive feat to stuff a Wii game on a 3DS, on a purely technical level, but goddamn it just looks like shit with that resolution, and it does not play all that well either. Just emulate the Wii one if you really want the old art style, or better yet just play the superior remaster.

Play Devil Survivor 1 and Strange Journey

DO NOT play the 3ds version of Strange Journey it shits on the legacy of the original. Play the DS version and if you really want to see what they did you can for a replay.

        Anonymous

I'm torn here. I don't think it shit on the original, but it definitely made it easier by a large margin. It was still fun. Play the original Strange Journey (it's very difficult, that's the draw for a lot of people, along with a great story), and if you like it enough and have the time then go and play the 3DS remake. The remake adds extra content and QoL stuff, but it's also easier due to being able to save anywhere, among other things.

I'm talking about the story. Everything about it IS a downgrade, from the easification to the graphics (upscaling made environments blurry) to the combat screen (moving everything from the top to the bottom making it less intuitive) besides the new dungeon, but the new endings completely defeat the point of the original besides New Neutral and injects bad fanfiction into what was the greatest story on the DS.

People will say this about Deep Strange Journey and then praise TDE in Nocturne.

Why not jump right into SMT IV:A? Fixes the flaws with IV's gameplay at the cost of the atmosphere

      Anonymous

This is my vote. OP if you played SMT IV and liked it then you should love SMT IV Apocalypse - it's my favorite SMT game.

        Anonymous

I'm like halfway through apocalypse and I really wish they hadn't made the whisper levels super powerful compared to IV where the difference between 1 whisper and 9 whispers was trivial and for example bufula was immediately stronger than bufu 9
And the way to efficiently grind more whispers is a bunch of boring menufricking (fuse a dirt cheap slime or goblin to the high level demon to make a low level demon with whatever you want whispered, get in one fight for the XP to hit whisper level, then re-fuse it again with another cheap slime to get a different low level demon, repeat to +9
There are a ton of smart revisions in apocalypse but this one little thing is a big damn needless pain.

should i get 3ds or ds? ds has longer battery life, more games and i heard ds games on 3ds looks like crap

      Anonymous

3DS has a larger library and better* screens. It's not that the DS games look like crap on 3DS, but they will be either stretched or letterboxed (your choice).
*not always, there are several different screens used

      Anonymous

A homebrewed 3ds is one of the best investments for the sheer amount of library you can tap into. You have the 3ds and ds and you can emulate pretty much any primarily 2D console. I forgot if you can emulate PS1 but if you can that's the upper limit. There really isn't any point in a DS unless you're a thirdie and it's your only option

        >I forgot if you can emulate PS1
You can. I've heard there is limited compatability but in the few games I've tried I havent seen an issue yet. Played the opening of RE3 earlier and everything from FMV's to gameplay was flawless.

3DS can emulate almost every DS game practically perfectly except for a handful like Golden Sun the Dark Age (which sucks anyways). There's not much reason to get a DS instead.

only a moron would go DS now. If you want to play DS games in that fricking small ass screen, you can hold the START button when booting one up and it will be your small ass screen, enjoy. (you think you do but you dont)

Just make sure you get the New 3DS and not the original one, especially if you want to emulate anything.

homie those things are way overpriced, like new console level secondhand last I checked. My XL was about $100 on ebay and I'm sure a regular 3ds is even cheaper. Sure if you're a trust fund baby (I envy you) but please do not tell people it's the only option

Legitimately only reason to get a DS is if you want to transfer pokemon from the GBA games to the DS ones or from DS to a 3DS. Custom firmware 3DS does everything you could want to do otherwise.

Dsi xl is the way to play ds games, sexy big crisp pixels without fricking the aspect ratio like 3ds does, also bright colors cause comes only with ips screens

I havent played gothic to be fair, but I enjoyed Original a lot and I found the Ring Hunt interesting, felt really close to an old School D&D adventure in which you take odd Jobs in smaller to get powerful enough to delve deep into the megadungeon.

3DS plays DS games in a window...it looks fine. After recently beating Bravely Second since I had my 3DS out and charged, I decided to replay Chrono Trigger on the DS version, and it looks amazing.
