I been playing Stalker 1 and you guys seriously exaggerated what this game is, like massively. Its an interesting slow paced FPS with survival mechanics, but its not some massive exploration game with weird stuff which is how people talk about it. Its pretty linear, the horror elements are really few and far between. Dont get me wrong, i like it but for years i heard so muvh about this game i was trally expecting a heavy exploration horror game, instead its a pretty interesting FPS but nothing like you guys describe it. I dont know peoplle spend hundreds of hours on it, theres really not much of anything to find. The areas are pretty detailed but its not like they are huge and full of secrets, you see all there is to see in an area pretty quick.
I hope the second one focuses on exploration, woth complex indoor areas.

I think the issue is that people conflate stalker mods with the mainline titles, I'd try OGSE after you finish SoC.
SoC has a cool atmosphere and a fun story, but it's definitely not the most open ended one, CoP is best for that, and CS is alright if you mod it to fix the bleed damage nonsense and rather fricked weapon accuracy.

STALKER is a survival horror series (like resident evil) with open world mechanics via a-life. Like instead of exploring a mansion you are crossing the zone. That's the gimmick. And the world is much bigger than you think. This is why GAMMA is popular in the STALKER community at large, because it gives meaning to the content you may have overlooked. Try it when you have completed the trilogy.

Look man, when I shoot a lanky dog 15 times in the torso and it keeps going after me, it feels like I'm fighting a bullet sponge enemy in a video game, not shooting at a wild pack of dogs trying to kill and eat me.
It's even worse with shotguns, you can dome people at point blank with 12g buck and they'll walk it off because they had an exo helmet on.
HP is a great solution to unarmored enemies, but it shouldn't be the only solution in a game where getting ammo is made intentionally hard and mutants can rush you in packs of 3-8 depending on species.

Yes, 5.45 FMJ is on par with harsh language when it comes to fighting mutants.
It doesn't need to instantly kill them, but it should do a lot more damage than it does.
On top of that, you're basically required to either fill a weapon slot exclusively for dealing with mutants with either a .45 or a shotgun, or expend half your ammo stock on a pack of dogs because you didn't.
This is in a mod pack that disables the ability to buy guns from traders by default and forces you to either pay shitloads of money to fix weapons or grind for hours to unlock the weapon repair kits you need to fix them, and that's assuming it doesn't still have the issue of not actually fixing the parts in the gun when you repair.
And that's all assuming you can find the parts to repair that weapon as the drop rates by default are absolute dogshit and only ever give you completely broken junk that you can't even maintain the parts on.

Then you played it wrong, because once I got the custom merc AK I was raping everything. The only mutants that soak up ammo is stuff like chimeras.
First game is just an appetizer. Most of the stuff you heard is true, but you get most of it in the third game - Call of Pripyat when it's been finally polished and most of the devs original vision was implemented.
There are also shitton of mods for all three games because fans started to patch features in themselves not waiting for the devs to deliver on all their promises, gladly engine was very moddable and allowed to change the game in a very high degrees.
Yeah that's pretty normal, there was a huge shitshow in the EEU stalker community after they pulled the Russian dialogue for stalker 2, the shit you're seeing here is mostly fallout from that and the overlap places like /misc/ have with foreign image boards.

Kiev is the Russian spelling. Kyiv is the Ukrainian spelling.
Chernobyl is the Russian spelling. Chornobyl is the Ukrainian spelling.
You know these cities as Kiev and Chernobyl because

I been playing Stalker 1 and you guys seriously exaggerated what this game is, like massively. Its an interesting slow paced FPS with survival mechanics, but its not some massive exploration game with weird stuff which is how people talk about it. Its pretty linear, the horror elements are really few and far between. Dont get me wrong, i like it but for years i heard so muvh about this game i was trally expecting a heavy exploration horror game, instead its a pretty interesting FPS but nothing like you guys describe it. I dont know peoplle spend hundreds of hours on it, theres really not much of anything to find. The areas are pretty detailed but its not like they are huge and full of secrets, you see all there is to see in an area pretty quick.
I hope the second one focuses on exploration, woth complex indoor areas.

I think the issue is that people conflate stalker mods with the mainline titles, I'd try OGSE after you finish SoC.
SoC has a cool atmosphere and a fun story, but it's definitely not the most open ended one, CoP is best for that, and CS is alright if you mod it to fix the bleed damage nonsense and rather fricked weapon accuracy.

STALKER is a survival horror series (like resident evil) with open world mechanics via a-life. Like instead of exploring a mansion you are crossing the zone. That's the gimmick. And the world is much bigger than you think. This is why GAMMA is popular in the STALKER community at large, because it gives meaning to the content you may have overlooked. Try it when you have completed the trilogy.

Look man, when I shoot a lanky dog 15 times in the torso and it keeps going after me, it feels like I'm fighting a bullet sponge enemy in a video game, not shooting at a wild pack of dogs trying to kill and eat me.
It's even worse with shotguns, you can dome people at point blank with 12g buck and they'll walk it off because they had an exo helmet on.
HP is a great solution to unarmored enemies, but it shouldn't be the only solution in a game where getting ammo is made intentionally hard and mutants can rush you in packs of 3-8 depending on species.

Yes, 5.45 FMJ is on par with harsh language when it comes to fighting mutants.
It doesn't need to instantly kill them, but it should do a lot more damage than it does.
On top of that, you're basically required to either fill a weapon slot exclusively for dealing with mutants with either a .45 or a shotgun, or expend half your ammo stock on a pack of dogs because you didn't.
This is in a mod pack that disables the ability to buy guns from traders by default and forces you to either pay shitloads of money to fix weapons or grind for hours to unlock the weapon repair kits you need to fix them, and that's assuming it doesn't still have the issue of not actually fixing the parts in the gun when you repair.
And that's all assuming you can find the parts to repair that weapon as the drop rates by default are absolute dogshit and only ever give you completely broken junk that you can't even maintain the parts on.

First game is just an appetizer. Most of the stuff you heard is true, but you get most of it in the third game - Call of Pripyat when it's been finally polished and most of the devs original vision was implemented.
There are also shitton of mods for all three games because fans started to patch features in themselves not waiting for the devs to deliver on all their promises, gladly engine was very moddable and allowed to change the game in a very high degrees.

After Grygorovych refused to pay anybody during Cossacks game production some left and started their own studio called A4 Games which then produced the Metro series, when Grygorovych fired everybody who worked on Stalker they moved mostly to A4 Games.
