not really.
you'd want the newer card which would age better and have more features.
you aren't doing 4k with either, so the extra 4GB is mostly irrelevant unless you play mod-heavy games.
You want more VRAM no matter the speed. The way a computer game gathers data for rendering is by fetching the necessary textures from the storage seamlessly through a process called texture streaming. Available VRAM allows the streaming process to compile much more quickly, ergo, when you run out of VRAM, the game needs to prefetch textures and wait for the video card to cache or "flush," the already used textures.
Having more VRAM means the video card doesn't have to flush as many things down the toilet during every rendering cycle, so this means the texture streaming can capably restore images already rendered and depict new ones at the same time, without you getting a choppy or buggy experience.
VR is high res, so 8GB prolly wont cut it for the stuff that 4060 would most benefit from anyway. but then,3060 is prolly not gonna cut it for that much high res either.
idk, look up benchmarks or something
keep in mind frame gen is 4000 only, it's pretty decent in stuff like cyberpunk. doesnt work in VR though. I plan on doing a VR playthrough of cyberpunk on my 4070 TI with a quest 3, hoping it'll cut it

i couldn't hold out with the 6500 it's just too shit with 4gb vram
either way im getting a high end card from the next generation, if i sell the 6600 it would pay for most of a 6700XT and it would be easier to sell that when next cards come around
More memory. Always.
Processing power is only an issue for unoptimized garbage like jankfield. Data storage and access will always be the main component on demanding games.
I can sell my GPU to a friend and get the 3060/4060 cheaper
I'd take a 4060 if at 1440p or lower. 8gb is a israeliteisraelite Black person move tho.
thanks, I'm never getting more than 1440p, frick I don't know if I'm ever moving from 1080p
6700 XT 12 GB
same price
aren't AMD gpus giving lots of driver issues?
If you want VR, then you gonna need to focus more on your gpu's bus speed instead of a big ram. You definitely need all the fames you can get with VR, otherwise you will get motion sickness. As I said, right now 8gigs are fine for 99% of things on a computer
>Hey fren. Im gonna give you a $500 gpu just because you are my friend.
Not happening. The best you're getting is below market price because I like you.
I mean at that point youre only adding another ten or fifteen dollars onto it. Imo it just looks bad. A gift is a gift. Otherwise youre asking them to pay for a gift even if it's a small amount

Friends? Serving community? Something you want to create?
Is this supposed to be 8gb worth of textures? Why are you going on the internet and telling lies?
Just tell them they owe you a burger next time you see them. That way you dont have to beg for money and you also imply you want to hang out with them. You do know your friends in real life, right?
Its about the bus speed. 8gigs of vram are enough for modern tripleA slop. Get the 3060 only if you care about rendering high res stuff or something. Either way, you wont be playing Cyberkek with path traycing to ON, but at least with the 40xx series you get DLSS 3.0, which doubles your fps with fake ones. Cant do that with a 30xx series
If you want VR, then you gonna need to focus more on your gpu's bus speed instead of a big ram. You definitely need all the fames you can get with VR, otherwise you will get motion sickness. As I said, right now 8gigs are fine for 99% of things on a computer
Take the 4060. The 3060 will be worse in every way except for texture resolution. Just lower textures from autism to normal resolution and enjoy better fps in every scenario. xx60 is the budget card dont expect 4k textures.
and there won't be any benefit to the 12GB vram if you ain't using more than 8GB
I play all my games with max texture res at 1440p and the only one I had problems was with the Re4 remake (I don't play w*stern pozzware so I don't know how shit things are with them)
Consoles have 16GB of memory and like 4 to 5GB is for operating system while they use the rest aka 11 to 12GB for vram.
It will be like that until 2028. and PS6 release.
So all game developers and publishers will be aiming at that.
And PC ports will be even more lazy and unoptimized.
Imagine him "upgrading" to a 8GB gpu now and waking up with that shit in summer of 2025. thinking about them 12 and 16GB gpus.
Downgrading from a 4060 to a 3060 will downgrade performance. Theres no point to 4k textures if your card cant comfortably run at 4k screen resolution.
Guess you didnt play the latest releases.
You arent gonna play at 4K with 4060 or 3060.
What you will get is 1080p and if you want to not use dlss and play at like 540p upscaled you will be playing with some mix of a medium and low settings.
Now with those mid low settings on the 3060 12GB you can turn on ultra or high textures and have much better visuals than with low textures.
Low textures is all you will get with an 8GB vram in the future. And its not carefully handcrafted low textures, its just the 4K textures that went trough a shitty tool to downscale them without human interaction.
>Guess you didnt play the latest releases.
Bg3 -max quality, max textures, dlss quality, 100+ fps
3060ti, 8gb vram, 1440p resolution.
Works on my machine.
30 series can run DLSS, so you have cuck frames still.
(Note: Upscaled frames are also cuck frames (and really tr*nny frames since they're pretending to be something they're not))

Good for you. OP has stated that price is same for him. Which card should he buy?
Downgrading from a 4060 to a 3060 will downgrade performance. Theres no point to 4k textures if your card cant comfortably run at 4k screen resolution.
imagine playing on 4K and then setting the fricking textures on low
what logic is this?
Good 3060 12GB that has two or 3 fans overclocks by +200MHz and can go like +1000 on the memory with stock voltage and you get a 15% performance boost.
That makes it equal with a stock 4060 in games that require 8GB of vram or less.
In games and at settings that use like 11GB of vram its already better.
But you dont really have raw power for such games and settings anyways.
The 3060 12gbs are cheaper than the 4060 8gb where I live, and I would choose the 3060 because it has more vram and a larger memory bus, but if you like the fake frame software just go with the 4060.
just save up a bit and get a 4070, nvidia cheaped out on vram and anything under 12gb is a scam, but at the same time 3060 isnt something you want to but now as a future proof card
Nvidia makes money by charging more for cards, so the upfront cost is leveled off by the amount of misinformation fans spread about tech. You want more VRAM usually, there is little difference in the quality of VRAM. As for futureproofing, yes, anything over 12GB is pretty much proofed.

read up on allocated RAM vs actual used RAM
You want more VRAM no matter the speed. This.
Developers (read:pajeets) aren't going to be getting any better at optimization, or even packing their sound files.
3000 series is more than enough for current games at 1440p
4000 series is only for fomo morons and "muh 4k" autists

why does the 4060 8GB beat the 3060 12GB in literally every slop game benchmark on youtube then?
because in those metrics they use crap resolution upscaled to 4k. and they'll call that a feature

The AMD equivalent. No, really, you have to be moronic to buy anything Nvidia today below the top end, terrible value.
My budget is $150-200
What card should I get?
I don't need it to play the most recent stuff, since my backlog is huge.
I'd get a 5700XT, really solid card you can get for about $170 with tax
I would get a 6700XT. It demolishes the 3060 and 4060, gets the same RT performance and is cheaper
Arc a770 16gb ram. Suck it ramlets!

4060 then download more RAM
8GB is fine for 1080p. You'll need more for 1440p, but the 3060/4060 isn't powerful enough for that anyway.
