I have a 3090 but AMD cards are fine for SD now
Sure you wouldn't buy one if you're only going to do SD and nothing else but this is a gaming subreddit
Not at all worth basing a buying decision on, there's very few games where it's a noticeable improvement and even fewer that can be run without upscaling from 1080p or lower.
Radeon cards have better price to performance ration when it comes to pure rasterized graphics, sure, however after trying out either dlss or dldsr I can't imagine going back to aymd.

literal digital cucks.
The only generation worth buying from Nvidia was Pascal. Arguably Maxwell as well but mostly thanks to the GTX 970, the rest of the Maxwell line-up wasn't that great.
Let's go back in time, shall we? Kepler (GTX 600, 700) vs. GCN (HD 7000, RX 200): AMD wins. Tesla&Fermi (GTX 200, 400, 500) vs. Terascale (HD 4000, 5000, 6000): AMD (well, ATI back then) wins again. Basically, we have to go back to the 8800GT in 2007 to find the last Nvidia card "worth buying".
From what I've seen, the 4080 Super is selling well for whatever reason. People waited a year... to buy a 4080 but 20% cheaper? I don't get it.
The 4070S and 4070TiS flopped hard, way harder than I expected to be honest. The 4070S doesn't seem that bad to me..? I mean, people were willing to spend $600 on a 4070, and the 4070S is the same thing but faster. But it flopped: again, I don't get it.
AMD on the other hand is doing very well (in the discrete GPU market, they still don't exist in laptops). Their sales are great, they are selling better than Nvidia which is incredible. When was the last time this happened, Terascale vs. Fermi back in 2009-2010?
Nvidia is hurting their brand and they don't even realize it, more and more people are giving the competition a try and discovering that *gasp* AMD cards aren't that bad after all. These people may be not be willing to pay the Nvidia premium in the future.
A similar thing happened with Ryzen vs. Intel: back in 2018 people paid $400 + expensive motherboard + expensive cooler to own an overclocked 8700K, when the Ryzen 2600 was like 25% slower for 1/4 of the price. Now you get laughed at if you buy a 13600K/14600K over of a 7600.
But maybe Nvidia doesn't give a shit: they make so much more money with AI, maybe they're planning to leave the gaming market / only focus on ultra high-end $4000 GPUs (and laptops) in a few years.
Sure, but people were buying the normal 4070 just fine. One would assume the 4070S would sell, at worst, the same. But no, it flopped.
Basically, the 7800XT and the 4070 were selling about the same for months. Some weeks the 7800XT sold better, some other weeks the 4070 sold better; on average, about the same. Then Nvidia launches the 4070-but-15%-faster... and for some reason the sales of the 7800XT skyrocket, while everyone stops buying the 4070. Weird.
Something similar happened with the 4070, back at launch. People were more than happy to spend $500 on the 3070 8GB, absolute turd of a card. Nvidia then launches the 4070 12GB for $600... and all of a sudden people start complaining it's not good enough?! And everyone starts buying 6800s, 6800XTs and 6950XTs instead.
8GB of VRAM, for that price?! Even at launch it was pretty bad, considering the RX 6800 was around $50 more... not that the MSRP mattered at all during the COVID / mining boom period.
After the mining boom, the 3070 dropped back to $500-ish... but so did the 6800XT.
But my point was, consumers were willing to buy a 3070 over a 6800XT, despite both selling for around the same price: okay, I guess the 3070 is "worth" $500-ish to most people. Okay, fine, I'll keep this in mind.
Then Nvidia launches a significantly better card, the 4070: we can all agree the 4070 shits on the 3070, I'm comparing Nvidia vs. Nvidia here. So logically, if the 3070 was already selling pretty well, the 4070 would obviously sell even better. Nope, AMD sales improved instead. Why?!

>8GB of VRAM, for that price
I play on 1440p and have not had any issues with it. Although I agree that it's on the low side nowadays. I bought it to play CP2077 basically, and it managed just fine.
Also prices were completely bonkers back then. I sold my 1080 to buy 3070 and I got like 400-500 bucks for it.
>People waited a year... to buy a 4080 but 20% cheaper? I don't get it.
With the 4090's dramatic price increase and drop in availability the 4080 Super has probably supplanted it in the minds of many consumers. Which is to say that 4080 Super sales are being driven less by people who normally buy xx80 cards and more by people who originally wanted to buy a 4090 but, for whatever reason, waited until partway through the generation and were screwed over by the massive price increase saying "frick it, close enough."
If I'm wrong the 4080 Super is on track to do decent numbers but if I'm right it's going to peter out relatively quickly.
>price price price price >if you can get it at msrp >but it doesn't sell!
sorry john boy, but customers, ever since the crypto bubble began in 2016, have shown nvidia and AMD that they are fine with paying double or triple MSRP for their GPUs and the manufacturers listened. for fricks sake, the 4090 was hard to get when it was at its ridiculous $1600 MSRP which is when i bought mine and it's now just as hard to get for $2200+. the regular 4080 is still over $1000 and the Super variant is $1200+ and they are both hard to find. neither AMD nor nvidia have any reason to drop their prices to pre-crypto levels.
Reminder that memes like raytracing will either get abandoned like so many other "features" or by the time they're actually relevant none of the current cards are viable.
Yeah, and you just had to wait what? 2 years for them to release it?
Just wait until 5080, than wait until 5080Ti, than wait until 5080Ti SUPER, than wait until 5080Ti SUPER A.I. max turbo plus...

If i had a amd card id figure that out. I plan on getting a amd card anyway. Only two cards i ever used was a 5970 hd? Really shitty card and a 3070. I really dont see the need to upgrade to a new card until warranted but i wanted either a i believe a 6900 xt because of the 16 gb vram upgrade or a 7800 xt at msrp from 8gb but i cant reason to spend 600 and up because i can run everything i want over 60 fps without ray tracing.

>4070
Paying over 500 bucks for a 12 GB VRAM GPU is a scam. It might be enough today but just like the 3070 it's gonna hit its limit super early. This is a 1080p GPU with a 1440p pricetag. The Super upgrade doesn't fix that. >4070 Ti
Got 16 VRAM now but if you want a 1440p GPU you can also go with the 7800 XT which is 400 bucks cheaper and only slightly weaker. 1440p at 4k prices. >4080
Was always weird. The Super doesn't change shit but this GPU should have never existed in the first place. It's not stable for 4k and it's way too strong for 1440p. I guess it's something for people who want a high tier GPU but aren't willing to do the extra step for the 4090? I am not surprised this thing flopped.
>I am not surprised this thing flopped.
If you believe mindfactory's numbers and a few people in the leaking business the 4080 has indeed flopped but the XTX has been selling well so seems even the nvidia value add couldn't save it.
The XTX is selling well cause its the strongest AMD GPU - Anyone who favors Red over Green can see the appeal. Not to mention that this thing is less than 1k and has enough VRAM to last over an entire generation.
It's direct competitor is 300 bucks more expensive on average and losing against it in most cases.
Nvidia really think they can keep crypto-prices alive by telling people that fake frames are actual frames. But the propaganda ain't working. Everyone can see the smearing.
That and the 3000 series is finally getting a little cheaper all while still being massively in stock everywhere - No surprise nobody is buying the dogshit 4000 series.
You're looking at artefacts from DLSS ray reconstruction. Anons like the previous poser will pretend that is from normal DLSS but it isnt. Its artefacts from an AI trianed ray tracing de-noiser.
>order 4070 super >Amazon fricks my order so request refund >it gets delivered anyway
You really can't beat this kinda performance for the low price of free.
>Only 4060
i mean as a whole GPUs are power efficient
i went from an rx480 to 6700xt, it's a 250% performance increase with pretty much the same power consumption around 220w
the novideo equivalent to 6700xt is 3060ti or 4060ti and those are 200w and 160w cards
thy're fairly power efficient
It has to be a Nvidia shill tactic to tell people entering the gou market that amd cards are power hungry, develop coil whine, and not having eaytracing. When in reality if you dont care about RT its the better option. Even the 6700xt has more vram than my 3070.
You need to upgrade simce based on the 2 feneration scheme. It says in soecification it can fit a 4080 really hard due to the drive bay. Might need to remove the drive bay if possible to fit the 4080 super if its the same size as a regular 4080
you joke but at this point i don't see the point to buy anything more than a card that can be fueled by a single pcie power cable, even 2 cables is too much
once you fully give up on westoid AAA goyslop even 4k or 1440p high framerates are doable with the gpus i describe

Unless you’re planning or playing at 4K, you really shouldn’t be having any issues
They are right, but BOTH nvidia and AMD's uninstall utilities are kinda shit at catching everything, hence why the advice is DDU
Anybody with a working intelligence to actually change a GPU can figure out the driver aspect
it works both ways you stupid homosexuals holy shit
Not even close.
>XTX more cost effective than 90% of nvidia's line up
>b-b-b-buh muh gaytracing! Muh cuda!
i don't have a witty retort but I do have this.
This is the worst generation we've ever had.
I'd rather have the housefire memes than this. Oh wait, we had that too this gen.
People b***h and moan about Nvidia fricking them just to buy nvidia anyway.
I'm not buying anything... but they keep finding non-gamers to sell their products to. First it was miners, now it's AI-ers. I can't vote with my wallet if they keep finding more wallets.
pc cope is hilarious. in addition to enjoying games on my xbox, i also bought a new set of golf clubs. but go ahead guys, keep posting your homosexual framerates.
>7800x3D
>7800 XT
>exclusively play at 1080 at 200+ hz
>not setting fps limit to 78.00
One job
>$800
1070ti was $400 back then
I can still play everything I'm not dropping a house payment on this slop cash grab generation made in the wake of the crypto bubble.
They can get away with it because of ML boom.
how do i undervolt my 7800xt?
thanks
Simple.
I'll be getting one. Pretty excited for it tbh. Going from 2070 Super to 4070 Ti Super is a hyooge jump in power
OH NO NO 4090 BROS....
>puget systems
So a literal who? We all know AMD sucks at a.i.
>Yes goy spend an extra $100 for an average 5% performance increase
but the hecking vaseline ghost cuckscaling that's somehow worse than just running the game at a lower resolution!
what am I looking at and why
You're looking at artefacts from DLSS ray reconstruction. Anons like the previous poser will pretend that is from normal DLSS but it isnt. Its artefacts from an AI trianed ray tracing de-noiser.
>700€ vs 550€
It's even worse here in Yourope. Steep price just for DLSS.
>order 4070 super
>Amazon fricks my order so request refund
>it gets delivered anyway
You really can't beat this kinda performance for the low price of free.
You know that's stealing and a sin
4060 owner enjoying affordable, efficient, comfy gaming here
I LOVE gpu shitflinging threads..
>12GB VRAM
Nvidia continues to shit on consumers' heads when it comes to VRAM.
12GB is more than enough for 1080p.
>drops below 60fps even at 720p with full path tracing in san andreas
Sorry famalam, you should've gotten the 4080 super if you wanted a card to last you more than 5 years.
imagine owning anything other than a 1060 6gb the CHAMP
>4070
>4070ti
>4070 Super
>4070ti Super
What the frick is wrong with GPU naming schemes? This is goddamn ridiculous.
It is what happens when you need to adjust pricing but won't actually drop prices on the existing products - just EOL them and release new stuff.
the comedy is some super prices are already higher than the non-super versions now
>mfw I have never owned a single Nvidia product in my 20 years of PC gaming.
Not gonna support a company that actively makes the PC a worse experience for everyone, simple as
I hate amd and nvidia they both have absurd power consumption, when they release 5060 and new amd cpu with 60tdp ill buy that maybe.
if you're an eficiencygay just do troon form factor APU only builds with just a ryzen and no gpu
>60W TDP
LMAO.
>I hate amd and nvidia they both have absurd power consumption
the 4000 series has pretty low power consumption though
Only 4060
Amd 7900 has that TDP or 65 don't remember.
???
7900XT has 300W and XTX has 350W TBP.
It often idles at 70+W because it's fricked.
Cpu Black person.
My bad, AyyMD CPUs are miles ahead of intel.
>Only 4060
i mean as a whole GPUs are power efficient
i went from an rx480 to 6700xt, it's a 250% performance increase with pretty much the same power consumption around 220w
the novideo equivalent to 6700xt is 3060ti or 4060ti and those are 200w and 160w cards
thy're fairly power efficient
It has to be a Nvidia shill tactic to tell people entering the gou market that amd cards are power hungry, develop coil whine, and not having eaytracing. When in reality if you dont care about RT its the better option. Even the 6700xt has more vram than my 3070.
I don't think a 4080 Super is going to fit in my case, so a 4070ti Super it is.
What are you upgrading from?
A 2070 Super in what I think is a P101SILENT. Not home so I can't double check on the case.
You need to upgrade simce based on the 2 feneration scheme. It says in soecification it can fit a 4080 really hard due to the drive bay. Might need to remove the drive bay if possible to fit the 4080 super if its the same size as a regular 4080
Everyones told me to skip a whole generation to get a new card. Seems reasonable
>Might need to remove the drive bay if possible
Think you're right, remember thinking that when putting it together years ago. Thanks, anon.
Just don't close the sidepanel :^)
Ebin
Just replace the plexiglass with a fine flexible mesh for dust.
>5700x + 6700 10gb
>literally zero power draw for great performance
no reason for me to upgrade for a long time
you joke but at this point i don't see the point to buy anything more than a card that can be fueled by a single pcie power cable, even 2 cables is too much
once you fully give up on westoid AAA goyslop even 4k or 1440p high framerates are doable with the gpus i describe
Yes, you can get compromised visuals on compromised hardware
lol
lmao even
And what runs worse on the 4090 goes down the stack
u r rite
