40k - Gladius

Anyone still playing this? I got into it lately and am getting absolutely raped by the AI on anything thats higher than normal difficulty.

I started this game as Eldars well, quickly took out Orcs to the left of my starting position, then I developed this city at the far corner of the map with Eldars warp ability. A risk, but it went really well at first. I encountered Space Marine city and took it out, then this Tau spam happened. I thought that I could hold it by sending warping units and healing things, but there were simply too many of them. I surrendered, and learned on the score that AI had me more than 10 to 1 on units count.

I was really bored by this game. I had like a dozen units get blown up trying to take an enemy city. Very strange. 40k games loathe any sort of playtesting or balance.

Well, I like the variety among the races. They each play differently. But I guess that AI is just bad, so they just gave it massive advantages in loyalty. I suppose that this would work on smaller maps where there's not a lot of room for cities, but on larger ones AI will just shit out enormous amount of cities and overwhelm you. Unless he's Space Marines, lol.

I fricked up my city development priorities a bit. I went all in on food production for foot army. It went really well for early and mid game, then I realised that there are no late game Eldar units with food upkeep.

Half-assed "game" that only exists as a platform to sell DLC.

Several dlcs are pointless, but game is so cheap now that you can buy everything else for a regular aaa price, unlike something silly like parashit demamds for their stuff.

The complete bundle is 44% off and still almost $100. Just the Adeptus pack is $18 on sale. That's nuts for a single faction in a game like this.

I wish the DLCs were done. I don't like getting into a game that's effectively still incomplete.

idk about that because I'm not so into 40k either. What I mean is that they've said more DLC is still coming.

I played it when Chaos just came out and it felt complete. DLC that just add new factions don't affect the game.
Like someone pointed out in a previous thread you might have a better experience playing earlier game for some faction because you don't see additional techs that are only accessible with DLC.

I played two game with them and had no problems on the 2nd when I perfected build plan and reloaded enough times to start on vulcanic biome with some side electricity. I thought that the point was farming those ancient robots, but since I couldn't find them I just researched them and spammed them, and it was a very easy run. The point is to basically ignore their infantry for whole game and go all in on vehicles and heroes. They have probably the best tier 1 vehicle. Walker is very good for early game simply because it has 3 range. It's damage is low, but enough of them with hero to tank and heal them will take down every neutral. Robots come already at tier 3 and can easily last till the mid end game. They've energy as upkeep so that almost forces you into abandoning one of the others resources for army composition when planning on relying on them a lot. I need to try and go on another playthrough and go for infantry instead of armour, though I don't think it'll be as simple. Their 8 tier foot unit is that same glass cannon that Necrons get. 2 range isn't enough in late game. I much prefer more tankier units in this game.

To me it felt like the webway attracting neutrals and being in fixed position fricks over their expansion early game. I usually play with high neutral density and infantry deals fine with wildlife (Guardians are useless obviously). But against other factions everything is so squishy including heroes, vehicles are a lot nicer to rush.

Already playing through my 4th game with the guard, but so far only played space marines and astra militarum, might try out Tau next.
Not gonna lie, this game is not balanced, but i already knew it the moment i noticed that each faction had a difficulty, and with good reason.
Harder factions have more complexity regarding resources, and how fares your early game units.
But also it seems that the Story Quests are more harder for Harder factions, altough so far i think the guard takes the shortest straw with the final mission. If it is your first quest with the guardsmen and don't have a siezible army with tons of tanks, planes, artillery and psykers, as well as as many squads you can afford, it is likely you will loose thanks to the fricking rape train they drop on you in the middle of nowhere (probably right behind your own lines) plus a fricking time manhunt.
I don't know how Tyranids will fare in their quest.
However, so far i really like it. Its the nearest think to a planetary governor experience, and despite the difficulty, i think i getting better at using Guardsmen. Just put 2 Barracks, and now you can pretty much pump 1 full squad of Guardsmen every single turn. Or even put 3, if you want to do the same with Tempestus Scions.
The only issue i have its with the loyalty stat for each city.
For guardsmen, i have to build a ton frick of chappels that eat my electricity to the point i have to built a brand new one in the middle of the desert just to get enough power.
For space marines, all you need is to pump Chaplains that generate more loyalty until you break the game.
I suppose this is to stop you from building tons of cities as well as making sense somehow for each faction, but its still shit.

I always bump Space Marines AI. They're good to very good when handled by player, but they really need the help on the maps and speed that I like to play on (large/slow). I've so far bumped them to 2nd hardest and they're still often demolished by the time I get to them by AI's that are set on weaker difficulties. I think that one city only is hard on them since there is limit on how much advantage several production buildings give.
It's worth mentioning that you can also change your own difficulty in faction selection. They're weirdly stated, harder ones make it easier for you. But they're fun way to change the rules quickly. They give you loyalty advantage with which you can go for more than three or four cities per game. On the negative they also bump your units starting xp which decreases challenge against wildlife.

Even a minor bonus is absurdly overpowered as it snowballs into everything through faster overall production. The smallest bonus is like +10 loyalty and +1 level on units. Went 1v2 against some buddies on a small map and absolutely facerolled them by turn 60-70 despite rushing 5 cities. Had more tech, more heroes, more resources and stronger army than them combined (tyranid vs aeldar+chaos.)

Can units take damage inside transport vehicles? Put a leader into my chimera when he had like 2 health left, next turn he was gone after the chimera was attacked.

No but if the transport is destroyed the units inside also die.

Only if the unit had dot placed on it before entering transport. Don't think anything else can reach while transport is alive.
