>Le 4k textures meme. >FLAC I SWEAR I CAN HERE THE DIFFERENCE GUYS. >So this 28 second video file is 1.8GB, If I compress it to 99% quality it will be 34mb, should I do that or— Nah, just ship it.
- Devs don't use compression so much these days, to allow faster loading. People b***h about load times more than they b***h about drive space.
- Often, all the supported audio languages will be installed with the game.
- Larger desktop resolutions require larger textures - which, again, are probably not compressed.
>- Larger desktop resolutions require larger textures - which, again, are probably not compressed.
This is such moronic logic, some mid 2000s games with 512x512 textures still look better than modern ultra hd soapy 8k garbage at like 1% of the file size
Load times are more important than saving a few insignificant GB unless you have some kind of terminal autism about storage efficiency
isn't compression better for loading times with a good cpu? most heavy weight games on steam always have an SSD required note compared to lower sized games
A game loading gigabytes of uncompressed texture data straight from disk to GPU is probably going to be more storage limited, while smaller games are probably more affected by CPU speed
its always uncompressed files. i think it was titanfall 2 that had about half of its 60gb being composed of fricking audio files? in short, modern game devs are morons
Storage has never been cheaper than it is now, if you consider 50GB an issue you need to increase your capacity.
It's not unusual post 2020 to have 3TB in M.2 storage on your mobo and at least another 2 in 3.5 SSD, 5TB is more than enough for most people. Christ I can't remember the last time i balked at a file size.
you are just making excuses for incompetence, remastered is basically RTW but with new textures, massive open world like Witcher 3 enhanced which is fully voiced is less than 50gb while this bloated trash is 70gb. Its also more than most of modern total war games which look better and have more content.
I agree that the game is bloated, I'm just saying there's never been a better time to relieve yourself of this particular anxiety.
As a defence of the devs, it's almost certain that nobody who worked on the reskin was involved with creating the original game. I assume remastering something you have never seen is harder than something of which you have intimate first hand knowledge.
Regardless, it's a great game, for me the best vanilla TW experience and even better with mods that's worth the SSD real estate it occupies.
Cheap storage is no excuse for shitty and undisciplined programming. Web browsers, for example, have no business being as resource intensive as they are, but "JUST BUY MORE RAM".
You're conflating two separate issues. Nobody is defending sloppy coding, but anon above makes a good point that there's no reason to be overly traumatized by GBs when you can buy TBs for peanuts.
It's exactly the same issue. We have a lot of storage space, whether it is in the harddrive or on the RAM. GB's are GB's. And because we have so much, nobody is careful with how much their program is using - they just assume you have as much as their spaghetti code requires. And if you don't, that's on you.
My PC has a 4TB SSD and a second 4TB SSD. I have 8 4TB external hard drives full of media and constantly plug them in and out. Yes I would still balk at a 50 GB game. There's only so much stuff you can put into a hard drive.
>My PC has a 4TB SSD and a second 4TB SSD. I have 8 4TB external hard drives full of media and constantly plug them in and out. Yes I would still balk at a 50 GB game.
So, filth-addict, digital hoarder, graphics editor o data analyst?
It's not a very good argument though is it? Back in the day you might have said 100 megabytes was just far too large for a game. 50 GB is by no means unusual for a modern game, BG3 takes three times that
>modern game
That's the point.
Rome is not a modern game. It is a game from 2004 that was 4gb on release. 4gb. the remaster is almost 1000% bigger than the original, yet the content is almost 1 for 1. Meanwhile Europa Barbarorum, a mod for the 4gb Rome that is a total overhaul with a ton of content, comes in at....5.2gb.
There is no excuse for remaster to be above 10gb.

Well brother I hope you somehow manage to shoulder the immense burden of 50GB on your PC, maybe we can also sign a petition condemning the back-breaking cost to our storage. This is a serious issue and we need to take steps.

yeah you're a real rebel complaining about the filesize of a game on a Taiwanese knitting subreddit, there's no taming you
if the game is bigger, that means it's better and higher quality. it validates my decision as a gormless consumer to spend more money on worse versions of games from 20 years ago to play on my big gayming pc with lots of glowing lights. i'm not gonna buy a game that's less than 40gb and 80 dollars because if i did then what's the fricking point of my 9,000 dollar graphics card? it would be disrespectful to NVIDIA to play a weak, optimized, and properly engineered game on their card.
Not him, but what's your favorite soundtrack piece? I like European Winter 1. Also post favorite fun Nation. I want something cool for my next playhthrough.
One of reasons I still pirate is because in my 3rd world country, I still have to pay internet per GB I used. So buying the game is like paying for it twice. Compound it with currency rates and any current AAA games feels like it costs 200 bucks
Literally $2.48 to store this game, that's fricking INSANE!
Look, I'm not a poorgay, I have a job and only $36k left on my student loan to pay off, but HOLY HELL $2.48 is just too much senpai. I could almost buy half a Starbucks skinny latte for that.
>The remastered ui has less information.
not really, the UI has more info than the original if only for the fact that you can see exactly what stats and bonuses are provided to your general in a nice simple screen that adds up all the bonuses for you. otherwise the truly annoying things are the multiple clicks for the news and income being on the trade screen instead of the settlement details. otherwise, the improved lists, or the tab screen provides more info than the original ever did.
also the fact that we got an auto merge and a auto sort is excellent considering we spend most of the time fiddling around with armies and being able to sort out unit cards at the click of a button is very very easy.
i think people just got turned off because the UI looks like mobile UI but i remember this comment
>also sometimes when you try to end turn you are blocked from an "idle ship" or "idle agent" notification as if this is a fricking civ game
it's extra ridiculous when you are at peace and thus it's only natural for your fleet to be idle; one time i got an idle ship notification while having my port blockaded by a superior fleet. using your spies to get vision? too bad, you must move them all every turn or else the game will spam you with this shit as well, even if you got them in a settlement
and the moron didnt even bother to click the little thing at the top of the news tab to let you customize what news you get. like i mean its not hidden away the button is clearly visible and anybody who is curious would have clicked that but people just want to be mad or are moronic like the poster clearly was.
there are some improvements but unit icons and font is way too small, placement of UI panels is all over the screen and nonsensical, a lot of stuff is hidden and requires mouse clicks.
no, so much for it being a 'remaster' bringing this classic up to date and fit for modern systems.
everybody knows that Ultrawide is rapidly becoming the new standard for players who can afford SSDs, it's actually disgusting that this game won't work on a 17 year old format.
>Original game, even with overload mods, runs easily on the period PC >"Remaster" stutters on current year gaming PC
I will repeat it for the n-th time - the removal of the 4 GB ceiling was a complete disaster for optimisation. Game barely works? Get better rig! Rig it top-spec? Well, get better rig anyway!
>the UI is fine
it has been said multiple times, its all over the screen with 0 logic you are constantly moving eyes from one corner of the screen to another to do most basic stuff. It hides information and requires more clicks than old UI in some cases, all icons and fonts are tiny while theres ridiculous amount of free space on the UI which could easily be filled.
>its all over the screen with 0 logic you are constantly moving eyes from one corner of the screen to another to do most basic stuff.
the most basic stuff in total war is settlement management and thats centered to your right and center thats not moving all over the screen and starting at the settlement screen will take up a majority of your time on the campaign map, no idea where you get this idea from. >

tiny is entirely subjective and wanting the UI to take up more space is a silly thing to mark against it.
the UI is ugly but its more than capable, it being the number one complaint people have against the remaster is moronic when things like the AI not being improved substantially or some bugs due to engine limitations removed not fixed are bigger issues than the UI.
it was handled by their diversity hire studio in bulgaria, which based development around the mobile port they had already made
it's the bulgarian spyware of course
not everybody can be as advanced as the americans and the chinese
It was made by Feral, who make the mac and linux ports, not ca sofia.
hi my name is steven. I made that original image, as seen on my twitter @nonregemesse. please credit me next time you post it. thank you friendo!
What is Bulgarian affirmative action like?
Gypsy/Pomak hiring quotas?
they hire bongs
Feral Interactive is in London
So it's Pakistani?
You're confusing them with CA Sofia, the team that did Rome Remastered is Angloid

Uncompressed sound and texture files.

>So this 28 second video file is 1.8GB, If I compress it to 99% quality it will be 34mb, should I do that or— Nah, just ship it.
its actually 70gb+ with HD textures pack, imagine how will remaster of 15gb med2TW will look like if they managed balloon 3.5gb Rome to that size
- Devs don't use compression so much these days, to allow faster loading. People b***h about load times more than they b***h about drive space.

Frick these people
Load times are more important than saving a few insignificant GB unless you have some kind of terminal autism about storage efficiency
>Yeah, idk shit about computers, how could you tell?
Correct, you must know shit about computers if you think there's a linear relationship between load times and filesize
isn't compression better for loading times with a good cpu? most heavy weight games on steam always have an SSD required note compared to lower sized games
A game loading gigabytes of uncompressed texture data straight from disk to GPU is probably going to be more storage limited, while smaller games are probably more affected by CPU speed

the original titanfall actually
80gbs of the game was uncompressed sound files which then got patched and the game ended up like 17gigs or something
western game devs
>western game devs
Not him, but comparing Rome Remastered to FF seems a bit too much
Still only slightly above half your latest cawadooty release.
Disk space is free and internet fast, who cares about game size?
These giga size games are ridiculus and offer nothing but a waste of resources.

did we really need two threads about some mod?
I still play the original. I wanted to buy total war medieval but didn't see it instead of gog.why is that?
no total war game is on gog, SEGA are turbo israelites and have DRM on all of their games
medieval 1 or 2?
ii can drop link to med 1(steam edition no drm) if you want
Not him, but what's your favorite soundtrack piece? I like European Winter 1. Also post favorite fun Nation. I want something cool for my next playhthrough.
HQ audio and language packs. Lip synching meant each language had its only HQ video file for speeches
One of reasons I still pirate is because in my 3rd world country, I still have to pay internet per GB I used. So buying the game is like paying for it twice. Compound it with currency rates and any current AAA games feels like it costs 200 bucks

why was this post deleted?

imagine not only giving a frick about this, but making a thread for it on a board as slow as this. Frick off to Ganker, you dumbfrick
my nvme drive can only install so much tho
im not sure if my motherboard could even support more than one either
dude, just buy a cheap sata ssd, you can get 2 tb for like 50 bucks, wait for black friday and you might get even better deals.
>buy a drive for a shitty remaster with an unplayable UI and removed features
>unplayable UI
most moronic post
hes right, UI is terrible and everyone hated it
Why did they even touch the ui, anyway? What a dumb decision
ferals fricking hacks do a mobile, linux, mac os versions
so well, they are essentially mobile devs
Oh right, I forgot about the mobile shit. Jesus
Absolute mongoloid take.
>better than the original
now if you claimed that its fine I could even believe you but why lie like that on internet?
>need more clicks

never had an issue with the performance
at least complain about the still braindead AI or something you tard
The micro stutter is a thing in pirated versions, i experienced it myself, you need to change system date to fix it.
based feral sabotaging the pirated versions so the poors seethe
the crappy crack is still unfixed? im starting to regret not buying it when i still had the original discount
lol outing yourselves as poorgays

Set your system date to something earlier than 2020
That fixes the stutter
lmao
you can't be real anon
>it work
remember when games used to come on multiple cds
cds nuts in your mouth
Could Feral revert the Remaster's UI to the original format via patches or something?
Why do you fricking morons keep bringing up UI? The UI is fine. It does everything it needs to.
It is horrible, Black person, pure mobile shit
