It's been playing persona 3 remake for me at a smooth 45. I guarantee you'll laugh at that, but 45 feels basically the same as 60 if the frame pacing is good and it's matching the screen's refresh rate.
That's a lot of projection from someone in a board where people constantly have threads about not having enough time for video games or building gaming PCs and then using them as glorified Ganker machines.
I traveled twice last year and didn't really have any time for video games I found. On the plan I would typically rather relax and watch movies. During the day I was always out and even when we got back to the hotel the 1-2 hrs were better spent resting. At night I was either out at the bars or sleeping and getting rested for the next day. Even when I found time to play vidya, I found myself gravitating to short bursts of indie/retro games so a Steam Deck would be wasted anyways.
Pic rel is what I have. Plays everything up to PS2/GC perfectly for 1/3 the price of a Deck. At home I have a laptop and PC that I can stream games to. There's just no reason to get a Deck for me.
Its' not that much better than the switch. Only so much you can do with a fricking 50W battery, dude. Considering your typical PC is running a 500W PSU, it's not even comparable.
I'm glad I bought it, I'm at the point where I hate sitting at my desk all the time. And if I want to play anything that requires more power than indies or emulators I'll just turn my monitor off and stream it from my PC.
I'm in the same boat. Ever since I started WFH, I've started associating my desk with work. I was surprised how well streaming from desktop works on the deck. I haven't even noticed input lag, and if it's there, it's very slight.

lads im THIS close to ordering the 1tb oled one
sell me on it
1) Check all your favorite games to see if they're compatible. Only about a third of my Steam library is confirmed working well, and another third runs with caveats like the text being hard to read, etc.
2) I love mine but don't expect a perfect experience, the OS is still barely out of beta quality. There's bugs constantly being fixed and it's a lot better than it was two years ago, but Deck 2 is probably going to be the first one I'd recommend unconditionally.
3) Anything not made by Valve is liable to constantly fricking break. So if you think the mods (decky etc) you've heard about sound cool, they're probably more hassle than they're worth. Decky made my Deck unusable a few days ago until I force uninstalled it. Emudeck shat the bed a few days before that and fricked up everyone's ROM library. Yuzu fricks up inputs in Metroid Prime Remastered.
4) Linux sucks big AIDS donkey dick and always will. The only reason SteamOS is usable by non-trannies is that Valve wallpapered over the entire thing. Similar to Android.
If you use it as intended and only as intended, limitations and all: best goddamn thing ever invented. Go outside the guidelines and you're dealing with FLOSS frickery where everything constantly breaks and all the users pogface if their CPU doesn't melt down playing Tetris.
for AAA games and graphical demanding ones i got my desktop pc
i honestly just need a portable device for emulating ps1 PS2 maybe ps3
is there anything outside of gaming you can do with this? plex server or something

It's the Steam Machine that should have been - the console-like PC that lets you enjoy gaming on the TV and away from your desk without kneeling to MS/Sony/Nintendo.
Also buy the 512GB one, and if you need extra storage you can buy a 2TB 2230 SSD as a later upgrade.
>not go for 1tb
There's nothing wrong with it, but it'll be cheaper if you really need the storage afterwards. If 1TB is enough for you then go right ahead. >streaming over wifi
I'd highly recommend an ethernet cable for devices, 5ghz or not.
What about dick on deck?
You can 'ick on 'eck as much as you want. It's your UMPC.
>that lets you enjoy gaming on the TV
it can't really do 4k that well but yea having it hooked up to a tv as a streaming target is neat
the output on the dock only does 1440p 120hz or 4k 60hz from what i've seen but i doubt you'd hit 120hz on 1440p anyway either without streaming to it
kinda wish it had higher 4k output so I could stream that instead but streaming from linux seems iffy at that res
I'm probably gonna sound like a valve shill lol but here's what I like >streaming from desktop works well, but your mileage may vary with this. my desktop is on a wired connection and I have pretty fast internet >great for emulation, by far the best handheld emulation device I've used. Gamecube and generations before work well, you might have to do some tweaks to run PS2 games >control customization is really good. I have a pretty cheap dock and it works fine. i also wont be playing the most graphical intense games on this
as long as emulation works im fine

i play half life 1 mods at 90fps while sitting on my sofa with my gorgeous wife. the games it can't run at 60fps are from after games turned to shit.
no, you're just bad with money and impetuous and have to have everything "new" to fit in.

OLED is a meme... just like muh ray gaycing and muh 4090. Only morons waste money on memes.
The LCD is based, affordable, reliable, and will last you for years and years. It even allows you to fix it yourself thanks to being completely modular.
Don't be a moron. If you have the LCD and that $600 is burning a hole in your pocket, use it for booze and hookers.
60fps is just not enough, battery is not enough, it has also weird charging way making hard to charge and game. Really I don't see any reason to own one
hmm ok so i just finished reading the thread and it sounds like the deck didn't do very well huh? maybe next time it won't be as 'shitted' and 'flopped' as you are all saying

I only play games on the deck that run well. It's not my only hardware. If it doesn't run well or I want keyboard and mouse I play on my PC at my desk or on my 4K TV connected to my desktop while on the couch. The deck is my same library and saves on the go and in other rooms where I play plenty of titles at solid performance.
you couldn't give me an ASUS product. the company is trash and their products have gone down the shitter over the years. they got too bid and too wienery. they're anticonsumer as frick
I actually have an Ally and while it is superior to the deck (it can actually play modern games on high graphics and doesn't need workarounds to run non-Steam games), it's hard to recommend it at the current price. If it ever goes on sale for $400 again though, you should definitely get it. At that price it's the best handheld on the market.
Never, they just released a software update which speeds up your fan to higher speed when device gets hot but it didn't do anything because card reader is in a location which gets very hot.
All the shills on this board say this problem was fixed in later revisions but there is no updated version of the device.
You can check on r/rogally, people who bought it in December had to RMA their deck because card reader burned out.
literally flawless
the only shit it has problems emulating is like Xbox 360 (because the emulator is in its infancy/not supported)
xbox 360 (a handful of games are playable like RDR and Lost Odyssey)
ps3 games (like 50% of the library, MGS4 is still difficult to emulate even on a $4,000 rig)
the frick are you smoking? my OLED deck plays elder ring, death stranding and the like at 40-50 fps without fsr. yes it's perfect for indies and emulation but the upgrades definitely make the OLED a much better device
I just stream AAA games to it, it's amazing for everything else. The screen and controls make it worth it over just streaming to a phone or something. Touchpads are also incredible for this reason. I would be disappointed if this was my only machine but then again you are moronic for thinking it was going to fill that role in the first place.

Black person, the claw is getting shit reviews. this autist called it as strong as previous gen chips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=kI7rdFBfQHE
today you either get a legion go or a deck oled, everything else sucks
>$550
Got mine for $400 including tax at launch, don't care about OLED.
Even today 2 years later, there is nothing out there that has the same performance as my OG deck available for $400 including tax.
The cheapest deck is worth it, the oled is questionable. When they release a revision that can emulate 360 and ps3 it'll be worth picking up at any price
I got the OLED specifically because of the battery life, I wouldn't get anything else unless it had an equally good battery life and didn't have a windows OS.
IF your portable can't play the games it's designed to play for at least two hours that isn't a portable, that's a wired console with extra steps.
Yeah, and when it's good to have it's really good to have.
I can't imagine being the type of person who has to travel a lot without one.
You are wrong it can also play new AAA games at smooth 20-25fps.
It's been playing persona 3 remake for me at a smooth 45. I guarantee you'll laugh at that, but 45 feels basically the same as 60 if the frame pacing is good and it's matching the screen's refresh rate.
persona 3 remake runs at 60 on the deck if you turn off the illumination setting
Most of my deck games are at 40fps like FF7R, should I be trying for 45fps?
>I can't imagine being the type of person who has to travel a lot without one.
It's called not being addicted to video games.
Like how everyone on Ganker isn't obese.
