Plus it's obvious Square regrets making him big time.

The whole set-up for the scions being established in Norvrandt so you can meet one as you explore was pretty damn moronic in general. Wouldve been better if it was just you, Ryne, and Exarch as originally intended.
I liked the collectathon plotline, it was a cool way to flesh them out and finally make them become the jrpg party they had always been meant to be, specially with the hype af Lakeland battle for culmination. What I didn't like is how not a single one of their reintroductions revolved around WoL pulling a big damn heroes and rescuing one of them at the last second. Instead it's Thancred who does it for us.

Nah, that's not because of "people like him", that's legit just Koji and some of the Devs having autism over it.
Playing completely blind from ARR to ShB I thought there was a whole range of fights that the WoL just solo'd, because obviously nobody else was around, and the fact it had a party involved was purely a gameplay convention. Fights like Ifrit or Susanoo are the most obvious for that.
But apparently that mentality really got up Koji's nose, and he's repeatedly talked about how "Even the WoL isn't powerful enough to solo a primal", like we're legitimately meant to believe that the WoL left Alisaie and Lyse holding the line against a bunch of Kojin, swam all the way back to that fishing village, recruited not just 4 adventurers but 4 adventurers with the echo ("B-B-But Susanoo doesn't temper!" maybe, but the WoL doesn't know that then), swam all the way back, ran past all the Kojin still fighting Lyse and Alisaie, and then fought Susanoo.
The Azem crystal is a good answer to it honestly, it's a lot better than having the writers feel like they have to invent these insane situations to justify something that really should just be "The WoL fought him 1v1 and won."

Quest descriptions are Koji's fanfiction because he changes them (and sometimes dialogue) to what he thinks is "better" and one of his obsessions is trying to come up with explanations for pulling people out of your ass even in cases like Susano or Thordan where it directly contradicts the plot. I wouldn't be surprised if it was his influence that made them come up with the Azem crystal in the first place.
Well, I like it. Ideally the game would have a more multiplayer focus and reflect that in the main quest design, but since it's not going that way the current path of having trust members around to help is the best way to do it.

In the Night's Blessed. If you do the pixie quests you help her with some nightmares she's been having. She's also the reason Y'shtola became their leader, she recognized her Echo and realized when she said she had a vision of sin eaters attacking the village she was for real. Then when the attack happened she was the only one ready for it because all the other Night's Blessed just laughed at her.
That's honestly a fantastic story, if only because of Mikoto actually fricking doing something with her vision, and people responding to it in a legitimate way.
I will never, ever not be frustrated with the absolute fricking insanity of the way Bozja handled her.
