you can buy potions with RC in the tent in the encampent (where you fight the hydra at the beggining) to force a change on the pawn's behavior, so not at all

This Pioneer description is complete bullshit. Pioneer on a pawn is amazing when fighting bosses since it increases the leash distance, meaning that when you're running all over the place baiting the boss and dodging attacks your pawn doesn't try to follow you and attacks instead. My ranger pawn was useless at Daimon until I gave him Pioneer, then he started doing actual damage.
Pioneer with challenger or mitigator on a sorcerer make the pawn cast spells from afar
optimizing pawns is so gay. Them being kind of moronic is what made the system charming. I want my sorcerer to climb a chimera and my warrior to go pick up garbage mid-combat

Just use dinput.dll and change their inclinations you want to 1000 and set everything else to 0
Only carry herbs and maybe favourite grenade and banish everything into storage for crafting mini game. Mostly for fun, there are few worthwhile combinations though.

The drake is hellfire grove is fire elemental and weak to ice. If you're a sorcerer, use ice boon on your pawns and then cast gicel aimed at its heart.

Due to the game's moronic flat dmg reduction, a lot of things will deal no damage. But a sorcerer has lots of huge nuke attacks, or just generally hard hitting strikes

Try the following things, at least one of these should work out. ideally upgrade your staff or whatever before attempting. In particular these fire drakes are weak to ice

>use the spell that does some ice helixes thingies towards the target

Yeah, playing without rented pawns. Ill try maelstorm. Tried miasma (useless, except poison), seism (low damage, random hits) and fulmination (low damage). I tried to find a better staff, but the idiot random loot system fricks me over. I do like that every level up I do significantly more damage.

The poison cloud? It's good against dire wolves aso, but huge enemies barely get damage. I use fulmination and water flasks.
When you cast Fulmination, do you hold down the skill button to electrify your pawns? It does its maximum damage when all 3 of them are near the enemy.
I only have the main pawn, but yeah, I do use the attack button to electrify the pawn.

Exploring the map is like exploring a minefield.
Exploring is fun, but I would recommend focusing on the main quest/side quests (not the noticeboard ones). The game is designed in such a way that you'll inevitably explore pretty much every inch of the world in the process of doing all that. The drake is a much higher level enemy than you're ready for at this point, that's something you can plan to tackle later.
I tried to do that, but the ogre in gran soris (?) owned me at l19. I couldn't damage him, despite being a sorceror. I increased the rank and have seism now.

Cheat engine the crystals and buy potions to set your pawn. Scather is best and then second slot doesn't really matter as long as it's not bad. Fighter pawns are practically immune to melee damage due to their 99.99999999% perfect guard rate and generate a ton of knockdown due to those guards + dragon's maw so they're best the boss creatures. Because of how OP they are, pioneer actually isn't that bad of an idea. Utilitarian actually isn't that great for them since you just want them to guard and to do dragon's maw as much as possible instead of mantling shit.
1-200 fighter pawn on hard mode literally takes zero physical damage.

But yeah you could only have 1 character. Starting a new game meant deleting your old one. Which is a tough ask when it’s a massive time-sink that wants multiple runs on same character.
Starting a new character to experience story as different vocation is fun, but deleting your maxxed out level 200 main save is not.
Save swapping is annoying, even with the tool. Not sure how they'd make multiple saves work with the pawn though. Maybe have a 'main' save.

The beloved system in DD1 was a bit moronic but very funny because of it. Basically characters gain affinity for you from all sorts of things, but it has a cap and if several characters have the highest affinity for you then the one that gets chosen as your beloved is the one you talked to last. But talking to people alone already raises affinity, and people talk to merchants a lot so said merchants end up having super high affinity and are likely to be the last beloved candidate you talked to, so you end up polishing their masterworks

it seems they made it "worse" like, each vocation gets random stats per level-up, based on their archetype, so warrior gets a random ass-load of health and mages get shit-tons of mana but the amounts are random, it's all speculation though.

Gear is more important than stats. Plus the current speculation is that the stats change when you change vocations anyway.

What is it that causes the ghosting effect that's particularly noticeable when you look at the beastren Arisen's legs when she's walking? I feel like I notice this in a lot of games these days and it's really distracting. I first started noticing it with Red Dead Redemption 2.
Temporal Antialiasing (TAA), FSR also causes similar artifacts in motion.

Yes, RE Engine titles don't force TAA on you, so you can disable it if you wish, I'm assuming Dragon's Dogma 2 will be the same.
However, you'll probably get a lot of jaggies and shimmering, transparent objects and hair and leaves will look awful without TAA.
Do RE engine games not have an alternate AA option that you can go with to avoid those issues? Or do you basically have to choose between TAA ghosting or some other visual issues?
Older RE Engine games (Like RE7) did let you choose between FXAA, TAA and no AA, but in newer titles like RE4R you only get TAA and TAA + FXAA or no AA.
I suppose if your GPU is good enough, you can turn off AA and set the render resolution to 200%, on 1080p that means you're effectively running the game at 4k, which should get rid of a lot of the jaggies.
I suppose there's other tools one could use, like forcing FXAA with Reshade for example.

Modern games just use TAA and fake resolutions which result in very muddy, ghosted images. It's not a DD2 issue, the majority of modern games suffer from it now.

Bad anti aliasing and FSR/DLSShit. If you want games to look good, play them on a good PC and use no upscaling or fake frames. If a game has DLAA, then use that because it's actually great. It a game has TXAA or MSAA or FXAA you can try them out to see what's best. You can also play games at 4K on a 32" or smaller monitor and just not have any sort of AA on in some cases and the resolution will be so high it'll murder jaggies.

Where? I've watched most of the footage that's out and having seen any of the vocation unlock quests.
It's not clear from that "quest" if you have to bring the inn keeper a specific sword that just spawns for that quest, or if you can just find any greatsword on your travels naturally and hand it in to unlock the class.
If its the later, I'd barely call it a quest and that's a good thing. BEing able to unlock the vocation by just finding any of the weapon type and bringing it to an inn keeper is way more natural feeling. We also don't know if you have to go that specific in keeper, or if you can unlock at it any vocation dealer.

Another spear-guard spotted in the footage from the other day on capcoms channel. It's definitely not a twinblade/duospear like the mystic knight uses. In the first game guards used the same vocations the player/pawns could use, so this suggests there's an announced vocation.
