I stopped leveling SAM the moment 6.1 came out and refuse to touch it until kaiten or a suitable replacement is introduced to SAM. It wasn't much, but in encouraged some thought in kenki management and created a possible failure state where you didn't empower Higan or Midare. I went through E9-12S on SAM back in Shadowbringers. Every time I saw a 120k+ direct crit was an exciting moment, because big number make ape brain happy.

Because people b***h about bozja duh, we had eureka and people b***hed about that then had bozja and they b***hed about that even more. Only two things wrong with bozja was the story was dog shit and it was ugly
Mobs were also too easy in Bozja. Eureka made me feel anxious when I stepped out of town, 1 mob could frick you up and that incentivized partying up. The kill trains were fun too, I made a shit ton of friends in bozja and eureka compared to every other content in the game. I’m glad they’re bringing it back.

eureka always had downtime, even when leading the train/actively farming mobs to spawn NMs, you had time to just chat and make friends, but Bozja was constant gogogogo, felt much less chill
the only thing I liked about bozja over eureka was the solo duels, those were really cool and fun

Sasuga, Yoshi. It's not even that EW even lacked content, it's that none of the content had staying power longer than a few days at best. Variant dungeons were cool, but there's not much reason to do them once you've got the twelve paths, and Criterion appeals to most people even less. Hell, I forget the Island Sanctuary exists for weeks at a time.
The only problem with Criterion is that it had ilvl requirements. If it was something you could do as a fresh 90 like Unreal it would have been way more popular. Telling casuals they need savage gear just immediately turned off like 80% of the people who that content should have been designed for.
Personally, I also think that the devs misunderstood what people meant when they said they wanted "harder dungeons". I do appreciate somewhat challenging 4-man content, but what I think people were really asking for was for regular dungeons to not be braindead slogs.
They definitely were not asking for that, I'd blow my fricking brains out if I had to do a complex dungeon as a daily.

Kaiten was removed because the job changes that SAM mains universally praised (gutting the jobs' playstyle with Tsubame Gaeshi and turning it into a midare mage) necessitated it.
Adding kaiten back literally fixes 0 of the issues with SAM design. To fix them you would need to get rid of Tsubame Gaeshi entirely and remove the buff refreshes from Meikyo Shisui and bring back Hagakure.

The game really lacks direction and feels like it's trying to do twelve different things at once and fails at all of them. A lot of the game feels like running pointless errands then watching the plot advance for entirely unrelated reasons.

Me and buddies were looking for a good MMO after burning out on SWTOR a while back, and now we've landed on FFXIV somehow. One of us got into it enough to subscribe, but me and our other bro are still on the fence. The boring quests and combat so far are a pain. Like, spending levels 1-20 delivering letters? Seriously? And even when you get to do a dungeon, you're just cycling the same 2-3 skills on mobs, none of which are tough enough to need a tank or healer.
It seems like this slow start is a known issue, so whatever, I'm willing to power through it once at least. But for those more experienced, when does it get good? I haven't had the spirit to even finish the free trial when faced with this slog.

Who? I'm on one of the new worlds, so maybe the XP bonus is causing some disconnect there. I started as an archer in the forest city and now I've been taking missions out of the port city. Last thing I did was go back to the forest for the 2nd proper dungeon (as in, grouped with other players)

Fair, maybe this simply ain't bitin' then, but I think I know why. Take SWTOR for example, where you have a voiced protag and several dialog options in every story scene. Even if things are scripted all the same at the end of the day, you do feel like an active participant in that story. Here though, it just feels like your protag is being lectured in every cutscene as he silently bobs his head along.

I'll tell you right now that is exactly how much of the story will play out. I forget when we got dialogue choices, but it's a while in and it doesn't really change anything except maybe how an NPC reacts for one text bubble. It's actually a joke within the community and among the developers how autistically mute the hero is. We have fun with it, but that is definitely how it is.

DRK is the job based off Guts Berserk. Berserker in FF typically just wears animal furs.
berserker in ff typically auto attacks uncontrollably as well and paladin usually can't cast white magic better then cure 2
except that warrior in ff14 is based on the warrior from ff11, which was a guy that hit you with an axe while wearing typical metal armor roughly based on the ff1 fighter even though it had the same berserk and automatic crit stuff that warrior in ff14 does.
11 Warrior could use all weapon types with acceptable proficiency, it wasn't locked to axes. It also had both Berserk and Defender. 14 Warrior exclusively uses axes (FF5) and the job lore and mechanics all revolve around controlled berserker rages. It's only called Warrior because they wanted to make it familiar to FF11 players.
5's berserker got knives, hammers, axes, and shields.
They teach Equip Axes and they're the only ones who can use axes except Freelancers. It's their weapon type.
They're better with hammers overall. The only axe worth using is the death sickle, which would be a scythe in other games.
But at the end of the day you were mostly going to be using a Greataxe and DPSing because WAR tanking falls off post-30 unless you sub NIN.

yeah because ff11 has a bunch of everquest mechanics in it, but not only were axes your highest weapon rank which meant 99% of people that weren't total noobs used an axe outside of very specific situations, but all of the warrior specific artifact weapons were axes. what exactly are you trying to prove by umm aksuhallying me about this
The defining trait of Warrior in the series is that it can use any weapon, which FF11 has and 14 does not. Yes it had higher potential with axes, but it could reliably use anything which is what Warriors do. 14 Warrior doesn't do that because it's a Berserker and not a Warrior.
and the defining trait of paladin is being a better warrior that can cast low level healing, but its spent most of this games life being worse then warrior and does all of its damage from big holy lasers almost like literally every class in this game is wildly different from final fantasy 5 despite sharing the same name and aesthetic

no mch unironically got removed from the shed. a bunch of potency buffs means that your personal damage is better then some of the melee dps and way higher then any non-blm ranged. when you include these classes dps + party buff contribution mch ends up near the bottom of the graphs again - but that requires 7 other people to play into your buffs to do your classes optimal dps while with MCH you just need 1 guy hitting their buttons without a care for positon or cast times which means its very consistent.
and also, mch actually has utility again, they brought back dismantle after shadowbringers removed it for no reason and buffed it so now on top of the general party mitigation all phys ranged share you now have an extra really strong one, when unlike in shadowbringers you actually take meaningful raidwide damage.
I can understand personally not enjoying how it plays (personaly like hypercharge and being a drill mage) but mch is objectively good again - perhaps not meta in a minmax comp - but any worries that you're trolling by playing it are long gone.
I went through E9-12S as a MCH. It's fine.

They need to trim so much of the fricking base ARR quest, the beginning section should 3 quests, 1 to do some random shit outside your main city just so you can explore a bit, and then two for the satasha shit then you finally join the Scions, The section with the little fairies can go frick itself, should be 3 quest. they also need to trim the frick out of the titan quests, that shit is a literal errand that takes ages, then the alamigan shit is a fricking slog nobody gives a frick about, and the hakkue manor can be a side quest in its entirety.
The small arc where MC, Cid, and Alphinaud go to Coerthas could use some trimming but its pretty much where the game starts picking up and I stopped skipping dialogue.

They did an OK blend of the two ideas since Sage magic is supposed to be extremely hard and kind of archaic. Though the real traditional Sage got mentioned with Red Mage quests where the one guy was trying to use voidsent heritage to get around red magic's limitations on both colors.

I love this game but I don’t think I can ever come back to it since it brings up so many memories of my ex. This was basically “our” game and we did everything from MSQ to ARR relics together. But then she had a certified woman moment and broke up with me over a made up reason. I love the game but I just can’t bare playing it again
