It's weird that valve didn't make it as """open""" as source 1 which had all kinds of cool non valve games like infra, zombie panic, titanfall, dark messiah, chivalry, etc.
They can't because there's no proper SDK yet. S&Box got something like 100+ GB of undocumented/barely documented stuff, so they can't just get that and release it to the public.
On the leaks there is a Source 2 SDK, who knows now, probably a bunch of games and mods will come out finally.
>source 2 sdk
I would switch from unity and drop consoles instantly, but it won't happen.
If it's in the leaks, then it probably will, afaik the original SDK also came when CSS came out.
valve releasing more than 1 game within 8 years is quite impressive, yes
Is there something like Hammer for Source 2?
Valve fucked up. This is their longhorn moment. They're gonna try to push this walking corpse for 3-5 years until they realize, they're gonna clean the fuck up during Gabe's end of life crisis, and then they will have their Windows 7 moment. It will be beautiful.
Windows 7 was horrible. the fact that Windows 10 was even worse does not somehow exonerate Win7.
How do you even get your hands on Source2?
ask them nicely and have connections like facepunch did
they don't give a shit about streamlining the process because it's not meant to be a public use engine
>because it's not meant to be a public use engine
That's too bad.
Why would one want Source 2? Don't know shit about engines but occasionally youtube will spitout videos crowing about Unreal's new features or the things that make Gamebryo ideal for Bethesda titles. I havent heard anything Source 1 had all the physics. I haven't heard anything super special about Source 2
Source 2 basically optimizes everything.
So it runs better than Source 1?
Yep, at least on my toaster and i have a 1050ti.
because it's not unreal, unity, or godot. It's valve's engine, so it's probably the greatest game engine ever made.
So on that note, is there any news?
>Why would one want Source 2?
Curiosity, using something other than Unreal/Unity/Godot.
>anything super special about Source 2
Rubikon and general performance
DX11 and Vulkan support, not special these days, but it's fucking major in regards to Source engine. Devs can finally stop tard wrangling DX9.
If you're very comfortable with the Source toolchain and related, it would make sense to use Source 2.
Source 2 is very fucking outdated compared to modern engines.
Yet it looks as good and runs much faster
You are currently dick riding a fucking video game engine that factually uses older technologies compared to its competitors. There is literally nothing to argue about, retards.
>factually uses older technologies compared to its competitors
Who gives a shit when """modern""" engines run like absolute ass even on $1000 gpus.
This. Shitty PC ports are becoming a trend again and Source 2 runs incredibly well even on toasters.
>old bad
>new good
Suck a dick, consoomer.
Go play your 70$ AAA that runs at 30fps on a good day.
lmao this retard clearly wasn't around for the golden era of the source engine, eat shit and enjoy your 37fps~ 4k(upscaled) TAA gobshite modern games and go fuck yourself
>Source 2 is very fucking outdated compared to modern engines
>meanwhile pancake HLA literally looks photorealistic at a quarter of the performance hit compared to UE or Unity
this bro
performance.
>port
>tech demo
>huge flop
>huge flop
>VRshit
>tech demo
...
Underlords wasn't a huge flop, it's a game that's ~90% reused assets, was made in like a week on a budget of probably less than 7 bucks, and somehow despite being c o m p l e t e l y fucking abandoned by valve for almost 4 years at this point manages to pull 2-3k concurrent players.
I liked it for what it was but it clearly had no depth at all and got boring quickly, I didn't understand the autochess hype.
It's was just a bugmen thing that Valve thought would take over worldwide
Valve wasted more than a decade because they couldn't decide what they wanted to do
what was up with the campo santo acquisition? people thought it was going to either rot valve from inside or be a second gold age of valve games but literally nothing changed
no fucking clue
campo santo employees worked on games like alyx, just like everyone else
It's true. I liked Artifact, it was fun to play and I ended up with all of the cards from the first set for much cheaper then I would with something like Hearthstone.
Was looking forward to more, but they never made any content for it at all. Obviously people would stop playing a game like that eventually. It's like they wanted it to fail.
They never actually released it, which is why it's only Valve games on the list. They tried to drive hype for it by keeping it a """secret""" but nobody actually cares because the goal of engines is for people to actually use them.
>S&box is a platform and game development toolkit developed by Facepunch studio powered by Source 2. Initially, the development was based on Unreal Engine 4, but as soon as Half-Life: Alyx came out, Facepunch immediately requested the engine branch of the newly-published game. A few weeks later Valve gave Facepunch access to the terabyte large repository, after which, in 2020, S&box's transition to Source 2 was announced. This is the first (and currently only) time that Source 2 has been licensed to third-party developers.
>Release date: To be announced
>terabyte large repository
>valve hasn't even shared 100gb of it not counting alyx
come the FUCK on
When is CS2 coming out?
Two more weeks.
Tomorrow at 1pm
Surprised the artifact poster isnt here yet.
man went quiet after this dropped

I still don't get if he's being ironic or not.
>nooo we don't want to launch HL3 because fans will be mean and will hurt our feelings
>proceed to produce shit games like dota underlords and artifact
For what fucking reason. I don't get it.
at this point they've dissapointed and pissed off everyone so hard that HL3 could launch and no one will bat an eye. at best there'll be memes and hype at the announcement, but by the time the game is actually out it'll just die out. I'm way too jaded to even be half as excited as i would've been 5 years ago.
And TF2 is still stuck on Source 1 with the worst performance imaginable.
People already portedTF2 into Source 2.
Cool, now Valve has to do it themselves.
i like source engine, think csgo looks very good considering how old it is
a game engine isn't really what makes a game looks good, and 5+ year old live service games have been optimized and redesigned over and over so they don't represent what you can make in that engine in about 3 years for the current market.
i hope for latency reduction, apparently 1.6 had only 8ms latency and cs go people go to ridiculous extent with uncapped 600fps 240hz monitors to minimize it yet its still higher than old game,i play locked cause my cpu fan are loud and i wish i didnt have extra 30ms ping cause of that.
Who cares? GldSrc2 when???????????
Xash 3D?
