I'd say especially if a moronic frick like you can't keep up with a basic conversation about a game that could run well on any system. Most games have little to no optimization these days and run like dog shit even with some of the best hardware around.
GTX260 ran it just fine.
GTX285 ran it maxed.
Granted it's just corridors in space, and you can see the space in certain doorways so it's really well optimized.
Lovely game to boot.
Near impossible with that kitty isolation mod where you're constantly surrounded by 4-6 aliens though.
>GTX285 ran it maxed
No fricking way. I had 3 of those cards in tri-SLI setup for shit like Crysis and they struggled to play Battlefield 3 in 2010. I don't see how they could run Alien Isolation which came out 4 years after that.

best hope is that they give KOTOR3 if they ever make it, to a developer that isn't pozzed and can write a slowpaced RPG well, they shafted Obsidian with the 2nd one, so I doubt it. That era of 3dRPGs like VTMB and Fallout:New Vegas which are all about quality worldbuilding are sort of hard to come by.

You definitely should play Prey at some point, absolutely incredible game. If you're worried about getting burned out though you might want to take a break before doing so, it's a long-ish game.
this is the reason WoW died too, the polygonal graphic style of Vanilla was total KINO and then by Cataclysm it's totally dead, now it's literally unplayable and looks like Disney
The only thing I disliked about this was that the alien was basically on a leash to the player, you could only get so far away and it would be teleported to your general area.
When you notice it, you cant un-notice it and it makes things feel artificial.
Yes and especially on the higher difficulty you can't do a peep and this homie will always be around to get you BTFO. The facehugger part made me seethe uncontrollably because of it, couldn't they put the alien away during that part?
Yeah, horror devs need to realize that it's often what you don't see that's scarier than what you do. It's why something like Sunbautica works so well. Because there's barely any leviathans in the game so 99% of it is just you jumping at shadows because the anticipation grows for when you do eventually run into one.
same thing, it was still tied to the player like it was on a rope and the higher the difficulty the shorter the rope was. It was only allowed to be a certain distance away before it would automatically be brought into the players radius again.
it's made to mimic the behavior of a predator hunting its prey, kinda imagine like the AI has witcher vision and can see your tracks and it's following you, but instead the AI director is giving it clues where it might find you, but it never outright tells the alien where you are and the alien has to use its own hearing and sight to find you, so it's basically mimicing "instinct"

Depth of field works only because real life isn't a flat monitor. Until we have light field displays, or at least VR eye-trackers, it's bullshit that has nothing to do with how eyes work. It's just "let's blur arbitrary part of the image and hope player isn't looking there" Black person bullshit.

Black person, your eyes automatically focus on everything you look at. A video game on a flat screen has NO FRICKING WAY to know where your pupils are actually focused. he's right, a video game has no way of knowing where your eye is actually looking, and in no way is your eye's focus always focusing in the center of the screen
in most cases DOF is just used as an excuse to get lazy with ugly LODs, dark souls does this for example where they just animate a .png background and blur it out with a fake DOF blur, and in CE games you have an insistent DOF blur constantly even if you focus and aim down sights at the background in the distance

>a video game has no way of knowing where your eye is actually looking, and in no way is your eye's focus always focusing in the center of the screen
That doesn't matter because you're seeing a game through the eyes of the player character, or a camera
2 years ago
Anonymous
>That doesn't matter because you're seeing a game through the eyes of the player character, or a camera
Not when I can control the camera. In rl your brain filters a lot of shit. In games that shit is suddenly grating because devs aggressively put it in.
Anonymous
it absolutely does matter, you're seeing the game through either by a camera placed behind the character, which obviously doesn't hold any bearing on what the character's eyes are looking at, and likewise even in FPP, you could say you're just looking the same direction your character is looking, not following their eye movements
either way I would always disable DOF anyway because blur effects are obnoxious, at least camera-based ones
i believe that's a bullshot, but the game does come close.
that corridor has been replicated in avp3, colonial marines, isolation and the new alien fireteam elite game.
Is this game scary? I like everything about horror games. The atmosphere, themes, aesthetics, except for the part where they actually scare you because I don't enjoy being scared.
Great game.
Proves pretty well how important is art and aesthetics for any game. >sets the mood >create good visuals independent of the time it was created >can be used to help see what's important (or not, if you want to confuse the player)
DoF is literally an effect that we borrow from cinematography. And it was used because of limitations on cam lens, and later turned into stylistic choice.
Videogames imagens don't have these limitaions because the image is not captured but rendered.
Using DoF is kinda stupid cause you can use your own eyes to focus on diferent depths of vision inside the flat image tou looking at instead of relaying on a "digital" pupil programed by the devs.

>also seen by eyes irl
Yes. And that's why you don't need to see them a second time. Your eyes do the work themselves.
Put your fricking hand in front of your face and focus on the monitor and tell me your hand is sharp. Also screen is fricking flat with no depth on Z axis so there is no "natural" dof. And IF there is no point to emulate those things, i guess movies should have no depth or motion blur also (if that shit is technically possible). I mean how fricking simple are you Black folk.
It is sharp as long as I'm looking at it, moron. >movies
Right, this shitty gimmick should frick off back to movies where it belongs. Only there a fricking movie director can boldly assume where the viewer should look. Movie trash has no place in video games.
Because that's how your eyes work, stupid homosexual. You see a light field, not a flat image, part of which is randomly blurred.
your character isn't looking at it, you're seeing what your character is seeing. dipshit
Now that's some mental gymnastics. I guess your character is also always a fricking robot, that would explain cancerous lens flares that no human would see.
>I guess your character is also always a fricking robot, that would explain cancerous lens flares that no human would see

>stupid Black person still doesn't understand how eyes work
Explain how the frick should game know where am I looking at, you stupid homosexual? You are literally mentally ill. Why won't devs blur entire fricking screen in case you focus your eyes on your fricking hand then? This is possible, right? Then this should be in games. As well as the blind spot simulation and floaters.
Try it out. Using OP's game disable DoF and focus on the motion tracker and tell me you can see clearly what's in a few meters away front of your MC. The same way you can't look at one side of your screen and read something that is the oposite side. You looking at the whole monitor but your eyes are focused on a specific part of it.
>i guess movies
Movies are static, you don't have the freedom to look wherever you want, the director dictates what you see, so the use of DOF to highlight or hide something is understandable, but games are not movies and trying to emulate them makes games worse.
the devs were working with 780/780ti's and everyone knows how badly the game ran on max settings, but they insisted on releasing the game even though current hardware wouldn't run it and it paid off, more devs need to adapt this mindset
also even a 1080ti wouldn't max it with the resolution I had, I was playing it with a 3060ti and at 1440p ultra I can just about max it with comfortable 80-90 fps
I've been married for 11 years and I basically date things using that as a metric. As long as I was with my wife when something released, I know it wasn't that long ago/I was already an adult l. I find that comforting.
Finishing Alien Isolation on nightmare mode literally gave me a few nightmares of Xenomorphs chasing me. Hiding from Aliens in my dreams... Blessing and a curse really.
Shit like this really goes to show lighting is everything.

Indeed. Zoomers who have grown up on shitterfield 3 now defend all those eye-cancer effects. The absolute state of this place.
>depth of field is eye cancer effect
moron
>blurs your entire background despite the fact that you are looking right at it
>anything but eye cancer
Zoom zoom.
your character isn't looking at it, you're seeing what your character is seeing. dipshit
Depth of field is used to hide shitty console limitation lods. Im fricking short sighted and DOF in most games is worse than having no glasses in real life for me.
>Depth of field is used to hide shitty console limitation lods
That's why Crysis 1 had it
Crysis 1 was engine showcase.
Motion Blur
Chromatic Aberration
Depth of Field
Mouse Acceleration
Any form of aim assist
Are the things everyone should disable when starting a game for the first time.
he's right, a video game has no way of knowing where your eye is actually looking, and in no way is your eye's focus always focusing in the center of the screen
in most cases DOF is just used as an excuse to get lazy with ugly LODs, dark souls does this for example where they just animate a .png background and blur it out with a fake DOF blur, and in CE games you have an insistent DOF blur constantly even if you focus and aim down sights at the background in the distance
>a video game has no way of knowing where your eye is actually looking, and in no way is your eye's focus always focusing in the center of the screen
That doesn't matter because you're seeing a game through the eyes of the player character, or a camera
>That doesn't matter because you're seeing a game through the eyes of the player character, or a camera
Not when I can control the camera. In rl your brain filters a lot of shit. In games that shit is suddenly grating because devs aggressively put it in.
it absolutely does matter, you're seeing the game through either by a camera placed behind the character, which obviously doesn't hold any bearing on what the character's eyes are looking at, and likewise even in FPP, you could say you're just looking the same direction your character is looking, not following their eye movements
either way I would always disable DOF anyway because blur effects are obnoxious, at least camera-based ones
It literally ran on a GT220 and looked almost that good. It was astounding at the time
Because the blur filters and low field of view cover up the shit textures. Many games use this to hide how bad they look on large screens.
it's super immersive but there's still not much interactivity. it's kind of like pre rendered in real time or something
we're just barely breaking out of the crysis plateau
Game was shit
sovl sequel when? No I dont mean action oriented like Aliens
They would ruin it.
I would consider my kidney for more of the same sequel
Great Linux port, good job Feral.
i believe that's a bullshot, but the game does come close.
that corridor has been replicated in avp3, colonial marines, isolation and the new alien fireteam elite game.
Just started and was wondering. Can the alien or other enemies see the light on some of your items like the molotov or noisemaker?
Is this game scary? I like everything about horror games. The atmosphere, themes, aesthetics, except for the part where they actually scare you because I don't enjoy being scared.
no
its more dread and terror
grow sum balzz, homie
it's probably the scariest game there is
like it causes actual terror and dread
grafix honestly seemed like they peaked years ago
Metroid Prime was kino
that was a fun boss fight
Am I wrong for wanting to play this on Switch over Xbox Series X at 60fps?
Great game.
Proves pretty well how important is art and aesthetics for any game.
>sets the mood
>create good visuals independent of the time it was created
>can be used to help see what's important (or not, if you want to confuse the player)
It's really good looking I'll agree but I'm just not a fan of stealth games.
Movie trash has no place in video games.
>focus on the monitor and tell me your hand is sharp
>HURRRR IT'S SHARP WHEN I LOOK AT IT
literal moron
Because that's how your eyes work, stupid homosexual. You see a light field, not a flat image, part of which is randomly blurred.
Now that's some mental gymnastics. I guess your character is also always a fricking robot, that would explain cancerous lens flares that no human would see.
>I guess your character is also always a fricking robot, that would explain cancerous lens flares that no human would see
but we're not talking about those things which don't make sense (unless it's a camera), we're talking about DOF which makes total sense
>games focuses on character nose
>entire screen is blurred
>u-uh t-that actually makes a lot of sense, you just don't understand!
>it's more fun to play like that, I swear!
>so what if I can't see gameplay, it's intended that way
>autistic hyperbole
never bothered me or hindered gameplay and looks great. keep seething
>w-who cares about the gameplay...
>as long as it's artistic vision, you are supposed to see entire screen blurred
Mental illness indeed.
>It is sharp as long as I'm looking at it, moron.
i hope you are trolling now. if not dont forget to breathe
>stupid Black person still doesn't understand how eyes work
Explain how the frick should game know where am I looking at, you stupid homosexual? You are literally mentally ill. Why won't devs blur entire fricking screen in case you focus your eyes on your fricking hand then? This is possible, right? Then this should be in games. As well as the blind spot simulation and floaters.
Try it out. Using OP's game disable DoF and focus on the motion tracker and tell me you can see clearly what's in a few meters away front of your MC. The same way you can't look at one side of your screen and read something that is the oposite side. You looking at the whole monitor but your eyes are focused on a specific part of it.
I play video games, not real life simulators. Realism homosexualry is ruining gaming.
>i guess movies
Movies are static, you don't have the freedom to look wherever you want, the director dictates what you see, so the use of DOF to highlight or hide something is understandable, but games are not movies and trying to emulate them makes games worse.
6 year old game developed for GTX700 hardware
1080 was out when MD released
read again what I wrote
the devs were working with 780/780ti's and everyone knows how badly the game ran on max settings, but they insisted on releasing the game even though current hardware wouldn't run it and it paid off, more devs need to adapt this mindset
also even a 1080ti wouldn't max it with the resolution I had, I was playing it with a 3060ti and at 1440p ultra I can just about max it with comfortable 80-90 fps
Doesn't matter how shitty the textures may be. Good lighting can make anything look fricking amazing.
>Unreal 5 remake
>loses all its sovl
When you hear that beep from a save station nearby
20 Years old game
How did Unreal Engine go from state of the art back when it first released to generic looking garbage right now?
And I mean UE5 right now compared to UE1 in the 90s
UE5 right now is state of the art though
I see no difference between Unreal Engine 5 and, say, Frostbite and RE Engine. It all looks exactly the same to me
You're talking about art style rather than fidelity.
well UE5 has lumen and nanite which makes it state of the art even if you "can't see" the difference they make
