only issue is that it really pushes getting into the "fun zone" in combat, so if you refuse to use too many tools (you can ignore a fair few tools, but spamming the SSG will just get you killed), the game will end up hard and unfun.

Eternal really was a step back in almost every way for me.
Mandatory chainsaws and constantly running out of ammo, completely asinine handling of the plot, no fricking gauss gun, they made the pickups look like actual cartoon crap.
The only good thing was that the graphics were still on point, but that would have been the case anyway.
2016 was so much more put together, it was the perfect cross between old doom and doom 3, it made you feel badass.
Doom eternal makes you feel like a goddamn cartoon character, and it has the fortnite pickup icon pack to go along with it. just feels so fricking low effort.

No, it was not. It's literally a generic, linear console-corridor shooter #521, with tiny, tiny monster arenas ripped out of Painkiller and such. Its gunplay also sucks because it's designed around the glory kills and fricking RPG mechanics.
Can anyone recommend games like Doom 2016/Eternal? I much prefer the balls-to-the-wall, arcady, arena-shooters compared to the maze/key-hunting simulator design of 90s boomer-shooters.

Postal Brain Damaged however is actually a mix of SS with Doom Eternal and it is half funny. I feel the humor is too innocuous for a Postal game as it is based on out dated stereotypes while Postal 4 is funnier because it makes fun of more recent stuff and I still feel they are pulling their punches.

The chainsaw is tantamount to rolling in Dark Souls, use that pib wisely. Eternal is balanced to ward Nightmare and it shows, you feel pretty overpowered on anything below Ultra Violence...except DLC and ML.
Too expensive. Right now on Fanatical you can get Doom Eternal + The first 3 nu-Wolfenstein games for 15 bucks. Other options are Metro Exodus and Dead Island Collection.
