WoD was objectively better. 3.X has the best post-expansion narrative. WoD, Dragonsong War, and Ala Mhigan resistance are all weaved together. Each patch itself feels like a payoff. Compared to every patch that came after essentially "queuing" the big pay-off later on. People praised 5.3 for obvious reasons, but 5.2 and 5.1 were absolutely flops narratively that only exist to waste time until 5.3.

Meanwhile, my main class is 68 and I still haven't found Cid's ship in ARR
Post MSQ quests don't give much EXP as you need to be at that particular era of the game's level cap to initiate them anyway and they never went back and changed the base game or older expansions to account for later higher caps.

Nah, I liked what they did with everybody so far except Golbez as he's just boring in this. The fiends were fine, the warping of Troia from a place of beauty into a voidsent hellhole gave me 'the feels', actually making a reason for Golbez to have a Shadow Dragon was neat. Golbez's whole story is also a mess that makes no sense. Why did he care to send Scarmiglione to Beatrice's house? Why was that gate specifically so special to him that he called in the archfiends? Why did he then send Cagnazzo to distract the party so he could destroy the gate? How did he craft a plan around Vrtra giving Azdaja false hope when he didn't even know he'd be coming?

The Thirteenth/Void has always a big deal thing since the very beginning, and closing that chapter with some shallow FFIV references and none of the characters who should actually be involved is the worst payoff possible. "Saving" the Thirteenth isn't going to feel earned at all. I don't think it needed a dedicated expansion, but it certainly deserves a better send off than this.

The reason people like Thancred and Y'shtola should actually have died is because they are genuinely good characters that the dev team completely and utterly relies upon, fully hamstringing their future (and current) attempts at adding to the cast.
I agree that the dev team relies very heavily on them (Thancred and Y'shtola probably the most of all the Scions) but how are they hamstringing attempts at adding to the cast? Because of Thancred we got MInfilia/Ryne, and because of Y'shtola we, uh... ok well Zero ain't that great but it's still an added character. And on a better note, we got Matoya because of her. Matoya is great.
What I mean is that moving forward they are relying on post-disbanded Scions instead of fully trusting their skills with completely new characters. I'm not talking about the Scions' previous interactions with the story because they were all essential to the Hydaelyn arc. We haven't had one minute without at least one Scion since fricking Heavensward's intro and post-EW was the perfect opportunity to flex new characters. I'm not like mad, I liked teasing Y'shtola and watching Estinien buy the map, but they're stealing the limelight from new characters who end up dead on arrival like Zero.
Zero didn't end up dead on arrival because of Y'shtola or Estinien though, Zero arrived dead on arrival because they writers fricked up, no more no less. It's not even a problem of Y'shtola and Estinien taking up limelight because almost as soon as we returned from the Thirteenth in 6.2 both of them just kinda sidestepped and just talk if they have something to contribute, which in practice means Y'shtola fricks off after every patch to build a mcguffin and Estinien just stands arm-crossed to the side until it's time to deliver a one-liner, as Zero gets hours of character development.
I mean, the character she's also interacted most with is Jullus, and he's neither a Scion nor even an old character. Zero has no excuse anymore about anyone possibly stealing her thunder, her thunder just fricking sucks because the writers somehow didn't see the very obvious contradictions in her writing. Like the anon who played through the patches just a few weeks ago and mentioned that you immediately get a sequence of Zero going

The writing staff is so comfortable writing scions that they are incapable of doing new characters, so they should be actively denied access to scions until they get their shit together or hire people that can actually write new characters.
Well I can see that complaint, but also I think you're just precipitating too much. Right now it's really just Zero, Vrtra and Golbez who kinda suck dick, and tbqhwyf I'd even go so far as to say that for this storyline, the Scions have sucked too (from 6.1 onwards). I mean, one can like the flirty scenes with Y'shtola or the sweat shirtless workout scene with Estinien all they want, but I honestly think both of them have had a fairly unflattering role (maybe less so Y'shtola, she has after all been solving basically every fricking science problem along the way, but she does still leave after every step) because of shit like not realizing the obvious trap in Garlemald, or Estinien's ASTOUNDING tactical acumen in saying "No Vrtra, don't use your op af dragon form to protect the people that know and love you, you might scare them".
Meanwhile we've been getting some actually good shit from other characters. Jullus honestly has been pretty good imo, the sole garlean motherfricker who I can stand rn. Tataru quests have brought back plenty of past side characters and they've been pretty decent stories where they're likable and do fun stuff. Pandemonium had pretty good writing. We're also getting a Matsya variant dungeon next patch, and he's also a new character. Even Myths of the Realm are pretty decent. Honestly I think it's just this central core of characters right now that are suffering from a subpar story, nothing more. Zero and Golbez just have the unfortunate fact that this story is 100% of their entire being and reason to exist. Worse, they're living FFIV references occupying a space that XIV OCs were supposed to be occupying. I don't think they're proof that the writers can't write new characters anymore because the Scions are too comfortable to write, I think that they just fricked up this one time, plain and simple. The fact that they revealed it's a team of newbie writers trying to coordinate doesn't even surprise me, it's exactly what I'd expect.

G'raha is borderline intolerable at this point and both his and the writer's obsession isn't "cute", it's fricking annoying and ruins what was previously a nuanced and interesting character. Alphinaud hasn't done anything since fricking Stormblood. Estinien is but a shadow of his former self, his previously justified confidence replaced with some kind of fake version that never actually does anything. Thancred practically doesn't exist anymore as a character. Y'shtola's fake deaths were already a running joke in ShB, not to mention that the writers have completely forgotten her physical condition since HW.
It's funny that people disliked Lyse so much and she got effectively removed from the story, but the current scions, some of which are arguably just as bad or even worse than her, have to be dragged around with us forever now. She's usually the character that the writer tends to push the script to and make her "figure out" everything in the plot so people call Y'shtola a mary sue for it. Urianger also gets the script when Y'shtola is not available and spell it out for the players and people have less problems with him, because his interactions with Thancred and party banter tend to "disguise" his role as a character in the story.
If they remembered her blindness and the fact she uses her lifeforce everytime she uses her eyes I think people would complain less. Moments like Urianger telling Y'shtola how the night sky looks should be more prevalent rather than exceptions.

99% of the people going "Yoshi-P said go play another game, sweetie :)" are people who've started in the past 3 years or so and have 10 years of content to catch up on. Their opinions hold no weight as they probably will never even touch any of the side content they say for others to go do (muh deep dungeon, fishing, etc.) and once they get caught up they will understand what everybody was complaining about.
On the other hand the people stomping their feet going "UGH I WANT TO PLAY THE GAME" need to stop whining and realize that complaining about it now while 6.5's content is basically done is futile and just accept that they'll be taking a break till Dawntrail releases.
