If you like Open world, exploration in general and don't mind the graphics, go for SV as well.
PLA has good graphics and art direction, story is Ok the new battle and catch system makes it unique and refreshing.
USUM is overalll a solid experience with lots of content, a good postgame and challening fights.
SV has a lot of QoL improvements making the games less grindy and more dynamic (no more back and forth to the pokemon center to switch teams)
Sm is better, usum fricks up the story in exchange for a few more mons

Not really. 3D models have done way more to show a Pokemon's unique traits with their multiple animations compared to the sprites which had a single animation at most.

It's generally agreed that SM has the best cast in all of Pokemon. You might think other games have better specific characters, Your Ns, your Cynthias, your Stevens, but nothing beats the SM roster as a whole. Pokedex are subjective but I think Alola is pretty good. You can cry about furbait all you want but overall I think people had some favorites in Alola. Not to mention how UBs are some of the most liked modern Pokemon.
98gay, you should definitely play Colosseum/XD. Would also recommend both Stadiums if you want something tough and enjoy the classics. BW onward aren't really my jam since they're piss easy and there's not really much to do.

1997 here I kinda agree. I think pokemon lost some of its magic with BW and in fact I never finished BW2. Or maybe it was BW2 specifically, I'm not sure, the shitty player character designs didn't help. Also I hated the Kyurem "fusions", I think Kyurem was perfect in BW1 and very creepy too.
Anyway DP was mid, Platinum was great but not as great as Soulsilver, which in turn will never top Emerald which I still play today because I am moronic and in 15 years I never managed to get all the symbols. My favourite is FRLG because it was my first game but Emerald objectively just tops everything in spite of being the 2nd ugliest pokemon game.
I never played RBY, only watched my brother playing Red and it seemed good, even as a kid I could notice there were some things that it did cooler than FRLG.
I did also play Silver and Crystal on VBA in the 2010s but I never got to Kanto. They are prettier (especially the pokemon sprites) and the music is fantastic but HGSS is the better gen 2 experience for me.
