The game doesn't really have pay piggies because there's no subscription and the meta currency doesn't give you anything you don't get from playing the game anyway. The super citizen pack is 60 dollars as opposed to the 40 of the base game, which is as much as every other new game except for the AAA now charging 70. Not really a big deal imo

I started playing just today and tried an escort for the first time. Jesus christ I guess the idea is to keep circling around and hope your escorts make it out alive. We saved maybe 6 people. The pity reward isn't even worth holding out for extraction.
They used to be much, much worse. Quite literally impossible. The bots dropped in greater numbers but also inside of the objective area, so it didn't matter what you did, the escorts would sprint for the door and get killed by the bots dropping in every 15 seconds. Now it's much better because the bots only drop outside of the objective area. It's still difficult, but if you bring lots of smoke and focus on pressing buttons literally the moment you drop, it's very doable
earlier tonight i was in a group doing helldiver defense missions and after the first match we gave up trying to actually complete the mission and we started roaming around the map looking for the super rare research materials and extracting after time ran out

I would more than welcome enemy types that are highly resistant to or even immune to damage from orbitals that need to be defeated through actual teamwork in a prolonged firefight. The automaton tanks actually do allow for this, but since the easy ways out exist, no one is up for tank hunting the proper way.
Railcannon cannot really miss and 500kg bomb flies in fast enough that if you time the throw right, the target will be hit before it starts moving again.
The whole point I am trying to make is that if there is a way to instantly deal with a problem, then it isn't really a problem, just a check to see if you have the specific problem solver. At least with support weapons you actually still have to put some effort in to kill your target (with the exception of the Spear).
Aiming and timing 500kg bomb is harder than using any support weapon. Lol, effort.

I also think the railgun is stupid due to its one-stop-shop nature and the fact that it renders some of the other support weapons completely useless. Autocannon is effective, yet has its drawbacks, like the fact that it requires assisted reloading unless you want to painstakingly self-reload it and that hitting at an angle can cause rounds to glance off of armor. The only drawback you can think of for the 500kg bomb is that it's "difficult to land" when that simply is not true.

In cases where strategem call down time is increased from a modifier, I'll often dance around the bile titan's feet to make sure it stays put long enough for the bomb to hit. Same for big groups of chargers if I can get them clustered up.
Not exactly complicated either, of course. But you'd be surprised how many people just cannot aim with the orbital precision strike or 500kg bomb.
Alright so you brought a strategem in the off chance you encounter one of these (or maybe you know you will) and now have 1 fewer of your already limited options to bring other useful stuff. The teamwork is in making sure your team brings the stuff you need to complete the objectives, because (at least at higher difficulties) no one person can cover every need. Crew served weapons add to this a bit, though I rarely see people employing them this way
You have four stratagem slots. Three if certain modifiers are in effect. You can take both 500kg and railcannon and still have room for a support weapon or backpack (or both if there are no modifiers). There simply is no sacrifice being made there, you just get everything.
Then you factor in that everyone else on the team can do the same thing and super heavies become a complete non-issue. In fact, think on your encounters with bile titans. How many times have you actually died to one? How many times has one even lived long enough to threaten anyone's wellbeing? It is highly likely that the answers to the above question are "never" and "rarely", and that simply shouldn't be the case when it comes to the (as of now) most powerful unit of a faction.
The "bosses" aren't really the killers, it's the elites and horde compositions that necessitate having more options that cool downs of nuke abilities do most of the time.

Why cannot, or should I say shouldn't, it be both? Why should the super heavies be a stratagem check instead of an additional layer of challenge that appears to frick your day up for you amidst the horde?
Would it not be kino to have to scramble your squad, dedicating two members to clearing the horde while the other two work together to bring down the super heavy? As it is now, it's just a lame interaction where someone spots a super heavy and the squad member with the right stratagems off cooldown chucks one at it and that's it, problem solved.
The usual counterargument to this is that on higher difficulties super heavies spawn all the time which necessitates a quick solution for them, but I say that is a symptom of their design being fricked up and that them being more involving would make games harder without there being a need to spawn several of them at once.

If all the depth and skill and teamwork is on the loadout screen, why not just check if you brought the right loadout at the start and then skip to the You Win screen instead of going through a pointless, already-solved song and dance?

You'd think that's what Bile Titans would be about, what with their armored tops, squishy underbelly and ample room underneath. Would be perfect to have you running under to plug their gut full of hot lead and explosives while dodging the legs and spew, then getting out while the big frick tumbles down.
And note that not only do you see the wreckage of exosuits, but you also see wreckage of APCs (or maybe they are HAVs, can't tell since they are blown up). Those will really help with these maps.

Orks are like a mix of the bugs and the bots, they overwhelm with numbers and speed but also have crude technology and traps to ambush players with firepower

1. Start the map you want.
2. Drop a SOS beacon.
3. Exit the game. (No, quitting to ship / abandoning doesnt work, you need to quit game)
4. When back, start the same map again. Your party fills up in seconds.

Recoilless rifle to the back or one of the legs works great, two rail gun shots to the leg and then finishing it off with your primary also works.
Autocannon to the legs or side and then finishing it off with your primary works too.
Orbital laser and orbital rail gun also work pretty well against them.

Something has to glitch out on some of these missions. Was just doing solo medium getting some samples while matchmaking and everything fricked, and I ended up killing about 500 enemies the mission with just how many patrols and non stop enemies there were when normally I was averaging less than 200.

robots is just avoid patrols or be prepared for over 9000 dropships, throwing orbitals perfectly and never relaxing as long as rocket buttholes are around.

tip for fighting robots: they take a while to lock on to you, so if you peek out from cover, empty your mag and go back in cover, they don't really hit you. (unless you're at pretty close range in that case you're kinda fricked)

EATs are better anyhow and you get them every 70 sec so there really is no reason to waste your backpack slot and cash for it.
Thing about the EAT is you have to deploy it. A patrol got off a signal and two drop ships are incoming? You will not get the EAT down in time to take even take out one dropship. You don't have that problem with a recoilless. And you don't have to worry about shots bouncing off a charger's leg, either. Recoilless is a really good complement to the autocannon. It's biggest draw back is it can't take down towers and buildings like the Spear can.

There's multiple mission types. The "blitz" mission is one is where you only have to kill enemies and it lasts like 10 minutes. Maybe try bugs on easy until you unlock something.
There is currently 0 reason to use any support weapon aside from the railgun. They all either have collossal reload times or pathetic ammo counts for how ineffectual they are at taking down targets, armored or otherwise. The only thing that comes close to reliably useful is the AC and that's purely because it has a niche in killing chargers/closing bug holes/destroy fabricators.
Spear would be really good since it can blow up buildings from a distance and bile titans. But the lock on feels bugged right now. You can have a charger completely in the lockon circle, and it just won't lock on half the time.
The railgun can already destroy bile titans/cannon towers/tanks. It's not worth the reload time of the spear to deal with it, let alone the bullshit targeting mechanics. Plus a majority of buildings are going to be taken care of by orbitals anyway since anyone worth their salt is going to have two 500kg bombs at the very least past level 25.

And the 500kg bomb is a meme on Ganker. It has like a 1 foot blast radius. Love throwing one down right on a top of a bile titan just for it to moves barely to the left and not die. The orbital railcannon or even the Eagle airstrike is much, much better. But I'm sure a 500kg with that last upgrade where you have two at a time does make a big difference, but until then it feels very limited.

No, it couldn't. Because it can only hold 5 fricking rounds including one in the gun. The railgun gets to mop up chargers in two shots, kills bile titans in 3, shoots through every single bot in 1 shot, 2 shots tanks, etc. And even accounting for the extra shots on specific targets (which the spear has the same issue with, it often can't oneshot bile titans or tanks because it hits their side/armor instead of the head/weakpoint) it still loses to the dumpster pile of extra rounds the railgun has left over. Not to mention the shitload of ammo you get back on resupply. Good luck convincing the team you need all 4 fricking supplies from the drop just to get 4 spears back. Otherwise enjoy dropping a new spear every 10 minutes.

No, the Spear will kill the heavies much easier if the targeting. You can bring up ammo limits and smaller enemies, but that is all outside the point. Fact is it can one shot kill a bile titan and a railgun cannot. It can one shot a cyborg turret, a railgun cannot. Everything else you're bringing up is non sequitur. Yes, the spear and other supports do need a buff for stuff like ammo etc.

The spear could target perfectly every single time and it wouldn't matter. You're never getting a reload off to justify using it against bile titans unless you're completely out of harms way on a mountain. It might be workable on lower difficulties but even on suicide mission you're facing 2+ bile titans and 4+ chargers an engage and you're not going to have the ammo to deal with anything, let alone the time to properly shoot any of them. Oneshotting specific mobs is cool in a vacuum but turnover is important when you fight multiple of those creatures every single mission, every single bug breach, every single objective.

You absolutely do not need a team to cover all the bases. Every single person can just run shield gen/railgun/any two orbitals (probably 500kg/precise railcannon/plainjane railcannon) And you'll deal with every single thing the game can throw at you.
The Anti-Material Rifle has some monstrous sway in addition to doing less damage than the Autocannon. It's a real shame.
DMR should be buffed to match the current AMR, and the AMR should be buffed to match the Autocannon, sans explosion but with an increased weak point multiplier.
Every single weapon that isn't the railgun deserves either a massive power increase or almost 2x ammo capacity. It is ludicrous that the railgun can one/twoshot most nasty enemies and you get 20 fricking rounds, don't need a backpack, get ammo back from boxes, 10 ammo from a supply drop, reloads fast as frick etc.
No, AC is just a better grenade launcher overall. It has the exact same explosive property over a larger area, can fire further, reloads 5 at a time so you're never out of ammo, holds more ammo too. I haven't touched the grenade launcher since I unlocked the AC.

It loads a full magazine instead of half.
It has larger explosive radius than AC and is a fire in general direction of horde type of weapon.
AC's strong for what it does, but GL is the go-to option for horde clearing.

It does destroy spore spewers it just sucks dick at it for some unknown reason. I dunno who the frick is shooting radio towers with support weapons though lmao. Also it does not take "several seconds" to charge. It reaches max damage in exactly one second, it doesn't get stronger as you hold it. It just doesn't reach that damage level to begin with on safe. It also doesn't have scaling armor pen at all.
Good luck waiting 14 seconds for the EAT to hit the floor since every single helldive mission has +100% callin time. I'm sure it'll be super useful once it's surrounded by bugs. The autocannon deserves a substantial buff because having literally 0 armor pen is moronic. All of it's "penetration" comes from explosive splash which is pretty abysmal.

Fairly certain spore towers take extra damage from anything tagged as explosive. A single impact grenade (400 damage) will kill one, as will four shots from the PLAS-1 (400 damage), but you can unload an entire magazine from the breaker or slugger and they still won't fall down, despite both totaling far more than 400 damage.

I don't use my nades for basically anything else since 90% of bugs don't take any damage unless you hit them from a oblique rear angle. That or your entire team just throws orbitals at it anyway. It's not like resupplies are rare or something.
You can reload it yourself, but it takes a bit longer. The idea is that you have a reliable comrade to reload it for you while you're firing. Call it out that you use it and they load you while you fire to make it faster - but usually people will want to bring their own stuff along instead so you're better off loading it yourself.
You can take both the weapon and the backpack, it'll just make reloading take a bit and you have to sit still to complete the reload. Still viable though. if a buddy takes the backpack the reload takes a second

I prefer the PLAS-1 since it doesn't richochet when it fails to penetrate, unlike the JAR-8. Means the explosion still kills through Devastator shields and Strider armor.
Their fix is that the game will inevitability get less popular so they are just going to keep selling the game they know can't handle the player load, waiting till people stop playing and the server load dies down, and then just live off the whales that stick around.

I think patrols are one of the biggest balance issue at the moment. There's no reason for it to be so hard to take out a single patrol. I think part of it is you literally have a split second to react before they call in reinforcements. In HD1 you could easily wipe patrols in a split second so that was fine if you were watching your map. Not only are they larger in HD2, but they can be behind structure you can't even see and still get off the flare. Couple that with the fact that patrols can spawn literally right behind you leaving you no time whatsoever to react or prepare for them. It's why you end up fighting 6 chargers at the same time or 6 hulks at the same time on the actual difficulties because you can't just stop patrols from calling in back ups.
It's not even that you have a split second to react. It's that for bugs, you CAN'T react. ANY of the bugs can summon a breach and you cannot interrupt any of the animations at all. At least with bots even if they do shoot the flare you can shoot the dropships down.

I started playing just today and tried an escort for the first time. Jesus christ I guess the idea is to keep circling around and hope your escorts make it out alive. We saved maybe 6 people. The pity reward isn't even worth holding out for extraction.
They used to be much, much worse. Quite literally impossible. The bots dropped in greater numbers but also inside of the objective area, so it didn't matter what you did, the escorts would sprint for the door and get killed by the bots dropping in every 15 seconds. Now it's much better because the bots only drop outside of the objective area. It's still difficult, but if you bring lots of smoke and focus on pressing buttons literally the moment you drop, it's very doable
earlier tonight i was in a group doing helldiver defense missions and after the first match we gave up trying to actually complete the mission and we started roaming around the map looking for the super rare research materials and extracting after time ran out

The automaton tanks actually do allow for this, but since the easy ways out exist, no one is up for tank hunting the proper way.

Railcannon cannot really miss and 500kg bomb flies in fast enough that if you time the throw right, the target will be hit before it starts moving again.
The whole point I am trying to make is that if there is a way to instantly deal with a problem, then it isn't really a problem, just a check to see if you have the specific problem solver. At least with support weapons you actually still have to put some effort in to kill your target (with the exception of the Spear).
Aiming and timing 500kg bomb is harder than using any support weapon. Lol, effort.

I also think the railgun is stupid due to its one-stop-shop nature and the fact that it renders some of the other support weapons completely useless. Autocannon is effective, yet has its drawbacks, like the fact that it requires assisted reloading unless you want to painstakingly self-reload it and that hitting at an angle can cause rounds to glance off of armor. The only drawback you can think of for the 500kg bomb is that it's "difficult to land" when that simply is not true.
In cases where strategem call down time is increased from a modifier, I'll often dance around the bile titan's feet to make sure it stays put long enough for the bomb to hit. Same for big groups of chargers if I can get them clustered up.
Not exactly complicated either, of course. But you'd be surprised how many people just cannot aim with the orbital precision strike or 500kg bomb.
Alright so you brought a strategem in the off chance you encounter one of these (or maybe you know you will) and now have 1 fewer of your already limited options to bring other useful stuff. The teamwork is in making sure your team brings the stuff you need to complete the objectives, because (at least at higher difficulties) no one person can cover every need. Crew served weapons add to this a bit, though I rarely see people employing them this way
You have four stratagem slots. Three if certain modifiers are in effect. You can take both 500kg and railcannon and still have room for a support weapon or backpack (or both if there are no modifiers). There simply is no sacrifice being made there, you just get everything.
Then you factor in that everyone else on the team can do the same thing and super heavies become a complete non-issue. In fact, think on your encounters with bile titans. How many times have you actually died to one? How many times has one even lived long enough to threaten anyone's wellbeing? It is highly likely that the answers to the above question are "never" and "rarely", and that simply shouldn't be the case when it comes to the (as of now) most powerful unit of a faction.
The "bosses" aren't really the killers, it's the elites and horde compositions that necessitate having more options that cool downs of nuke abilities do most of the time.
Why cannot, or should I say shouldn't, it be both? Why should the super heavies be a stratagem check instead of an additional layer of challenge that appears to frick your day up for you amidst the horde?
Would it not be kino to have to scramble your squad, dedicating two members to clearing the horde while the other two work together to bring down the super heavy? As it is now, it's just a lame interaction where someone spots a super heavy and the squad member with the right stratagems off cooldown chucks one at it and that's it, problem solved.
The usual counterargument to this is that on higher difficulties super heavies spawn all the time which necessitates a quick solution for them, but I say that is a symptom of their design being fricked up and that them being more involving would make games harder without there being a need to spawn several of them at once.

If all the depth and skill and teamwork is on the loadout screen, why not just check if you brought the right loadout at the start and then skip to the You Win screen instead of going through a pointless, already-solved song and dance?

Here's how to fix matchmaking (broken a shit, I know):
1. Start the map you want.
2. Drop a SOS beacon.
3. Exit the game. (No, quitting to ship / abandoning doesnt work, you need to quit game)
4. When back, start the same map again. Your party fills up in seconds.
This pretty much rules out mission combos though since 90% of players leave the group as soon as they spawn back despite it being such a miracle to get picked into "quick play" queues. Your average normie is terminally moronic idiot.

The only GAAS components are the micro-transactions. Presumably there's also authentication for progression to prevent people just cheating unlock everything at level 1, but that's not GAAS stuff.
The component that requires always-online that isn't GAAS, though, is the galactic war system, which is one of the components people loved about the original Helldivers.

Recoilless rifle to the back or one of the legs works great, two rail gun shots to the leg and then finishing it off with your primary also works.
Autocannon to the legs or side and then finishing it off with your primary works too.
Orbital laser and orbital rail gun also work pretty well against them.

Sure I can fight them easily now at level 41, but this is mildly insane for *medium*.
Something has to glitch out on some of these missions. Was just doing solo medium getting some samples while matchmaking and everything fricked, and I ended up killing about 500 enemies the mission with just how many patrols and non stop enemies there were when normally I was averaging less than 200.

robots is just avoid patrols or be prepared for over 9000 dropships, throwing orbitals perfectly and never relaxing as long as rocket buttholes are around.

tip for fighting robots: they take a while to lock on to you, so if you peek out from cover, empty your mag and go back in cover, they don't really hit you. (unless you're at pretty close range in that case you're kinda fricked)
You know I was doing alright on my very first mission since I didn't know how escort worked at the time, other than being overrun,. but the second mission i got ass gaped by big armored robots with only the face being a targetable arrea to shoot and it was all over from there.
yeah the big armoured ones are hard to kill if you're using the standard liberator rifle, with the MG43 you can basically spray and pray and the bullets go through the armour. a valid criticism of the game is that it is pretty vague regarding what penetrates what. But yeah, use the MG43 for big armoured robots.

There was a bug where on some short missions the reinforcement amount was that of a 40minute mission.
So a 15min gets the same amount of enemies as in a 40min. More than double.
They said they fixed it, but it still happens.

EATs are better anyhow and you get them every 70 sec so there really is no reason to waste your backpack slot and cash for it.
Thing about the EAT is you have to deploy it. A patrol got off a signal and two drop ships are incoming? You will not get the EAT down in time to take even take out one dropship. You don't have that problem with a recoilless. And you don't have to worry about shots bouncing off a charger's leg, either. Recoilless is a really good complement to the autocannon. It's biggest draw back is it can't take down towers and buildings like the Spear can.
There's multiple mission types. The "blitz" mission is one is where you only have to kill enemies and it lasts like 10 minutes. Maybe try bugs on easy until you unlock something.

There is currently 0 reason to use any support weapon aside from the railgun. They all either have collossal reload times or pathetic ammo counts for how ineffectual they are at taking down targets, armored or otherwise. The only thing that comes close to reliably useful is the AC and that's purely because it has a niche in killing chargers/closing bug holes/destroy fabricators.
Spear would be really good since it can blow up buildings from a distance and bile titans. But the lock on feels bugged right now. You can have a charger completely in the lockon circle, and it just won't lock on half the time.
The railgun can already destroy bile titans/cannon towers/tanks. It's not worth the reload time of the spear to deal with it, let alone the bullshit targeting mechanics. Plus a majority of buildings are going to be taken care of by orbitals anyway since anyone worth their salt is going to have two 500kg bombs at the very least past level 25.
If targeting mechanic wasn't bullshit, it would kill all those heavies you mentioned much, much more efficiently than the railgun. And have fun using call downs on scramble maps. And the 500kg bomb is a meme on Ganker. It has like a 1 foot blast radius. Love throwing one down right on a top of a bile titan just for it to moves barely to the left and not die. The orbital railcannon or even the Eagle airstrike is much, much better. But I'm sure a 500kg with that last upgrade where you have two at a time does make a big difference, but until then it feels very limited.

No, it couldn't. Because it can only hold 5 fricking rounds including one in the gun. The railgun gets to mop up chargers in two shots, kills bile titans in 3, shoots through every single bot in 1 shot, 2 shots tanks, etc. And even accounting for the extra shots on specific targets (which the spear has the same issue with, it often can't oneshot bile titans or tanks because it hits their side/armor instead of the head/weakpoint) it still loses to the dumpster pile of extra rounds the railgun has left over. Not to mention the shitload of ammo you get back on resupply. Good luck convincing the team you need all 4 fricking supplies from the drop just to get 4 spears back. Otherwise enjoy dropping a new spear every 10 minutes.
No, the Spear will kill the heavies much easier if the targeting. You can bring up ammo limits and smaller enemies, but that is all outside the point. Fact is it can one shot kill a bile titan and a railgun cannot. It can one shot a cyborg turret, a railgun cannot. Everything else you're bringing up is non sequitur. Yes, the spear and other supports do need a buff for stuff like ammo etc.
The spear could target perfectly every single time and it wouldn't matter. You're never getting a reload off to justify using it against bile titans unless you're completely out of harms way on a mountain. It might be workable on lower difficulties but even on suicide mission you're facing 2+ bile titans and 4+ chargers an engage and you're not going to have the ammo to deal with anything, let alone the time to properly shoot any of them. Oneshotting specific mobs is cool in a vacuum but turnover is important when you fight multiple of those creatures every single mission, every single bug breach, every single objective.
I disagree, I've done suicide missions with it. You need a team that does cover all the bases so it's not like the spear alone is going to work. I haven't done a helldive so maybe that's when it falls apart.
You absolutely do not need a team to cover all the bases. Every single person can just run shield gen/railgun/any two orbitals (probably 500kg/precise railcannon/plainjane railcannon) And you'll deal with every single thing the game can throw at you.
The Anti-Material Rifle has some monstrous sway in addition to doing less damage than the Autocannon. It's a real shame.
DMR should be buffed to match the current AMR, and the AMR should be buffed to match the Autocannon, sans explosion but with an increased weak point multiplier.
Every single weapon that isn't the railgun deserves either a massive power increase or almost 2x ammo capacity. It is ludicrous that the railgun can one/twoshot most nasty enemies and you get 20 fricking rounds, don't need a backpack, get ammo back from boxes, 10 ammo from a supply drop, reloads fast as frick etc.

No, AC is just a better grenade launcher overall. It has the exact same explosive property over a larger area, can fire further, reloads 5 at a time so you're never out of ammo, holds more ammo too. I haven't touched the grenade launcher since I unlocked the AC.

It loads a full magazine instead of half.
It has larger explosive radius than AC and is a fire in general direction of horde type of weapon.
AC's strong for what it does, but GL is the go-to option for horde clearing.

It does destroy spore spewers it just sucks dick at it for some unknown reason. I dunno who the frick is shooting radio towers with support weapons though lmao. Also it does not take "several seconds" to charge. It reaches max damage in exactly one second, it doesn't get stronger as you hold it. It just doesn't reach that damage level to begin with on safe. It also doesn't have scaling armor pen at all.
Good luck waiting 14 seconds for the EAT to hit the floor since every single helldive mission has +100% callin time. I'm sure it'll be super useful once it's surrounded by bugs. The autocannon deserves a substantial buff because having literally 0 armor pen is moronic. All of it's "penetration" comes from explosive splash which is pretty abysmal.
Fairly certain spore towers take extra damage from anything tagged as explosive. A single impact grenade (400 damage) will kill one, as will four shots from the PLAS-1 (400 damage), but you can unload an entire magazine from the breaker or slugger and they still won't fall down, despite both totaling far more than 400 damage.
I am because spending 1/50 autocannon ammo to shoot it without aggro all the enemies around is way quicker

I don't use my nades for basically anything else since 90% of bugs don't take any damage unless you hit them from a oblique rear angle. That or your entire team just throws orbitals at it anyway. It's not like resupplies are rare or something.

You can reload it yourself, but it takes a bit longer. The idea is that you have a reliable comrade to reload it for you while you're firing. Call it out that you use it and they load you while you fire to make it faster - but usually people will want to bring their own stuff along instead so you're better off loading it yourself.

You can use the steam console to actually download older releases of your games and restore them. DMC3 fricked up something last year for the ddmk mod, and I had to do that.

I think patrols are one of the biggest balance issue at the moment. There's no reason for it to be so hard to take out a single patrol. I think part of it is you literally have a split second to react before they call in reinforcements. In HD1 you could easily wipe patrols in a split second so that was fine if you were watching your map. Not only are they larger in HD2, but they can be behind structure you can't even see and still get off the flare. Couple that with the fact that patrols can spawn literally right behind you leaving you no time whatsoever to react or prepare for them. It's why you end up fighting 6 chargers at the same time or 6 hulks at the same time on the actual difficulties because you can't just stop patrols from calling in back ups.

It's not even that you have a split second to react. It's that for bugs, you CAN'T react. ANY of the bugs can summon a breach and you cannot interrupt any of the animations at all. At least with bots even if they do shoot the flare you can shoot the dropships down.
