Of course it was Luke. They tried to "make it ambiguous" and leave it up to the player to decide who was the guy in the end but that didn't stop Bamco from acknowledging the most logical conclusion and show that it was indeed Luke who returned in almost all the supplemental media and material about the game.
Like in the manga with Tear practically jumping to hug Luke, or both the official Character Bible and the Perfect Guide having and image of the ending guy in Luke's bio pages but not in Asch's. Or the in-game hints like the way he sheaths his sword. So yeah it was Luke.

Honest question here : is there any Tales of worth playing?
I played tales of symphonia when I used to be a teenager but even if the gameplay was okayish, the animation, naration and story was so poor it was a pain to play. I mean, I remember a moment where some important character die an horrible death and the heroes are like "who cares, let's move on".
What's the point when you can play JRPG with better gameplay like any tri-Ace studio game like Star Ocean (which are shit too except of the second one)?

Not him but I started this recently and the wolf boss in the woods around 4-5 hours in is a massive c**t difficulty spike, I didn't see it coming at all.
How is the game after that point?
Better. Raven is my favourite character to use in combat. People like to whine about the last third of the game but I enjoyed it

Without spoiling it, of course.
I'd say just picking one up and playing it might pay off and make you think it's the greatest thing ever, but you have to be mad to play more than one title. They're shockingly mediocre after the novelty wears off.
