I used to see 32" and even 36" Sony Wega TVs in the trash constantly like fifteen years ago. Shit was worthless even back then cause they're a pain in the ass to even throw away due to their weight.

it sucks watching the geometry slowly decay and the picture losing stabilization, but, i sure as frick got a ton of enjoyment from it the past few years, whatever happens.
it might force me to learn some intense CRT repairs though, which would be fun if i don't end up with 30,000 volts surging though my body kek

Discharging a CRT is simple, but if you want to be extra safe, just let it sit unplugged for a week. Replacing old capacitors and reflowing solder joints will likely clear up a number of minor issues, so if you know or are willing to learn how to solder, it might be worth the effort to fix it.

yeahhhhh i've had thoughts about taking it apart and reflowing some joints / replacing some caps, but, working on a CRT seems like a heavy, daunting and brutal task. i can solder a bit. pic rel

They're taking all the good Trinitrons and PVMs for themselves

On a serious note it's really fricked that *reusing* CRTs through (typically) grassroots nonprofit businesses is taking a backseat to whatever the EPA has in mind for them. I'm willing to bet this ends up with *more* CRTs in landfills rather than less. As usual, a gov't program has the opposite intended effect.

        Anonymous

It's nothing to do with recycling, it's the weight. They don't want their staff to hurt themselves lifting big ass CRTs. My local thrift stores will still stock a small CRT from time to time.

Posting here rather than making a new thread. I picked this up out of trash of my apartment earlier today. Powers on but I can't get a picture, I think the rf box is busted. Disc drive is definitely dead. Looking at needing a new video cable, a PS2 memory card, hard-drive adapter, mounting bracket, optionally a upscaler and a 1 tb drive. Should I just put it back at this point?

just get an usb and the video cable, you can play 95% of the PS2 library using OPL with Virtual memory card, with that you are already set and you just need esr to run games like jak and daxter. (with jak 1 having already have better pc version and 2 and 3 being works in progress).

165 mother fricking pounds. Trinitrons are no joke. they are wayyyyy heavier than other CRTs, something about the glass having to be ultra thick to structurally support the flatscreen as opposed to having it convex. i doubt either of your dumbasses are lifting that either.
lifting my 27" trinny at 120lbs is frickin brutal, it's awkward weight too. can't imagine if it were 40 pounds heavier and a few inches wider...

That's nice. I'm 150lbs, 6ft1in, practically no muscles. Two years ago I had a job hauling full-sized beer kegs up and down stairs. Full, they are 161lbs, and I was working solo. I'm far from being in good shape, but I still was able to haul those beer kegs up and down those stairs.
If you are weaker than my anorexic-looking Skeletor ass, then for gods sake do some physical activity before your muscles completely atrophy away.

I mean, not trying to defend OP's frickass, but whenever i carry around 29 inch CRTs around the house it isn't the weight that gets me, its the fricking grip, some TV's are much easier to grip than others.
Regardless, dude had someone to help and still managed to frick the TV up.

Yeah it's a bit of weight, but with 2 people that should be easy, that's only around 35kg each and maybe park the car next to it and use your brain before trying to stuff it in the boot. Get a job where you lift shit and then you get fit too, then you don't have to pay for the gym and you could lift that on your own you scrawny dweeb

I have a 27 inches one, the quality is incredible with YpBpr, I have hooked a wii and the emulators running at 240p look gorgeous.

Sadly the Wii U only outputs 480i and looks really bad, 480p is not supported and you cannot hack it to output 240p like the wii.
