WHY couldn't they have made it a strategy all the way? Why can't you order your cultists to go frick shit up? Or at least take some guys with you to fight?! It could be simple controls like Pikmin or Sea Salt or something. ditch the roguelike and embrace the role of a leader.

As soon as you leave the base it becomes so boring, might as well only play with the sandbox (but you cant, you HAVE to left click through 50 Isaac rooms and then mash a copypaste boss until your finger is numb)

it is a strategy management game at its core
feels like the roguelite combat is tacked on
it's isaac with base management, not a strategy game of any sort

the solo isaac combat doesnt blend with the base management aspect at all
You know it's only there because a roguelike where you smack people with sword and do cool moves is easier to sell than something just a smidge more complicated
it also of course makes no sense that you can order your followers to do any task in the world for the good of the cult - EXCEPT fighting and crusading. That's still just on you

There is a shitton of systems and mechanics related to nurturing your base and your cultists, and building and crafting and upgrading shit
Then you go to combat and it's just "choose one of 2 weapons, fight through several rooms by mashing left click, then fight a boss with literally 2 attacks"
And the former part is the only one that's in any way innovative and interesting
why not move on to another game with the genre you actually wanna play? aren't there other cult management games? enjoy and live more peacefully for yourself, maybe touch grass
another criticism is that there seems to be a disproportionate number of loot/rewards that are just cosmetics
decorations for the base and cultist skins
that do nothing
because this seemed fun and exciting at first glance and then proved to be a disappointment and a waste of potential, so naturally im in a state of dismay

but as it looks shitty, I don't think you will like it. I mean I get you. the idea for this game and style are pretty unique and we always tend to imagine what we would enjoy the most. this game is some kind of hybrid idea between the hype for isaac on the one hand and animal crossing (in a dark twist) on the other. both games are beloved. so I, for myself, am satisfied with what the game turned out to be for now (I only can really judge it, once I've played it), but I just enjoy the cult managing (but I wished the hub was way bigger) and to have some action combat thrown to the mix so things don't get too boring. Just try it out by pirating, and if it really isn't for you, I hope you'll get a game you are looking for soon, too.
