The best games of the past 5 years are much much better than the best games of let's say 2005-2010.
You're just overfocused on bad games, or on games that just don't fit your taste.

Who forces you to play it? You know how many shitty megaman clones have been pumped in the 90s?

AA isn't dead, it's just that a lot of studios that now constitute AA are LARPing as indies in an effort to seem more grassroots as part of their appeal.
Look at shit like Dave the Diver, or Sea of Stars, or Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. All "Fake Indies" that wear the indie badge strictly for the marketing, while operating on AA budgets with AA marketing & publisher support

Indies don't have multi-million dollar budgets, the good graces of angel investors like Kowloon Nights, or the backing of big-name publishers such as Nexon.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is the only one that actually looked and play like AA game. The two other examples of yours are typical indie pixel shit.

          >The two other examples of yours are typical indie pixel shit.
You're still missing the point. This isn't a matter of how a game looks or feels. This is a matter of access of a development outfit to resources and support.

Of course, that was the peak of gaming. With few exceptions, everything made after the PS2 era has been an absolute fricking trash fire (hence why nobody gives a frick about AA/AAA but freak out whenever an indie game copies some forgotten SNES game)
