    Devs are shit at optimizing
Also games do not look better than 5 years ago there is no reason they should require 4x the specs

we are talking about game sizes, so its about compression of the files itself and not performance optimization even though it matters as much as the other one

They're both linked to the same issue, being that devs no longer care about low level nitty-gritty and are mostly working with higher level abstractions through their tools.
They no longer need to exploit specific chip eccentricities or shave everything down to fit on tiny storage space, so those skills are viewed as irrelevant when recruiting and consequently the time when those developers start learning those skills, if at all, coincides with development on the game being nearly over.
So you get a game that runs like ass, has incompatibilities on different setups and has so many uncompressed assets that it can't run on spinning rust.

What is this movie called? Thank you.

It's a movie about living in Bruges and the existential horror of having to exist within Belgium.

I hardly play the newer games that unwarrantedly need all this horsepower. Only game I played that needed a SSD was RE4R and that was to avoid freezes before cutscenes.

Then you haven't used an SSD.
This is not something you can deny. It's a scientific fact that the read/write speed is 2-3x as fast. It's a revolution in processing.

HDDs were only fine when consoles were using laptop tier 5400rpm hard drives and even then you could still drastically speed up load times with an SSD
consoles are using SSDs now which are several times faster than the fastest HDD which means you're in for a bad time when it comes to things like texture streaming and loading in assets
