>bro just get a better pc
The largest game in existence that matters currently released in May and only just over 16 GB.
>Big games are big
No shit, moron
They have no reason to be that big when graphics stopped improving years ago
uhhh barbie doll dresses microtransaction bros?
Do you not have 100gb of disk space in 2023 or something? SSDs are very affordable, if not outright cheap nowadays
>just buy another ssd for 5 games
The point is the devs should stop this shitty practice instead of the players accommodating to their moronation
>>just buy another ssd for 5 games
Name 5 games that will fill up a $80 high-end 1TB SSD which you play actively.
I usually just uninstall games after I'm done playing them.
GTA 5 (110 GB)
Payday 2 (90GB)
Black ops 3 (118 GB)
Master chief collection (170 gigs)
Ark Survival evolved (436 GB)
924 GB from 5 games from just my library.
you could replace payday 2 with Warzone (175GB) and you'd need 9 more GB with a 1tb SSD.
These games are from 2015, 2013, 2015, 2014 and 2015 respectively.
Stop acting like large games are something new.
I never said they were, you asked someone to do something and I did it.
so you literally had 10 years to fix the problem and you didnt
>Master chief collection (170 gigs)
Jesus, I was actually planning on getting this one now that online multiplayer works, but I might skip it now.
you CAN install specific games, like Halo Reach and it's multiplayer alone for like 30 gigs.
that's just every single game installed.
That’s just moronic design on their part. There’s zero fricking excuse for two remakes and two outdated games to come out to a grand total of 170
You can choose what you want installed (I have only halo 2 and 3 mp)
Ah, that's really reasonable then. I'm glad they gave us the option.
Dude, it's a collection of games it's normal that the total is big.
god damn, I bought it and didn't know it was that big
well that sounds more reasonable, wtf is Halo 4 gigantic itself or some shit??
>that list
holy slop
moron
the anons point still stands about games being bloated, but that is a certified goyslop list
yes but saying bloated games are goyslop is redundant
see
>slop
opinion discarded.
Jesus man you taste is terrible. Peak YouTube zoomer.
>Jesus man you taste
why are ESLs on my board?
>all shit games
not my problem then
>Ark Survival evolved (436 GB)
what
base game is 320gb plus a bunch of 10-60gb dlc maps
it's one of those games where i'll never understand how it became popular
>Playing Payday2 in 2023
epic
https://steamcharts.com/app/218620
a good chunk of people are, it's a good game.
>Ark Survival evolved (436 GB)
Fricking what?
That's insane, that game sucks
>I usually just uninstall games
enjoy your wasted write cycles, moron
>Uninstall AAAslop game thrice a year
>SSD Eventually dies 8 years later, after outlasting 2 motherboards
>Buy a new one for pennies
>>SSD Eventually dies 8 years later
>ignoring all of the important data on there, like images, documents, save files, mods, etc.
>what is a backup
>what is a cloud
Black person get back up asap.
>everyone is me
shut up moron
100gb of storage is akin for hdds. no one in their right mind would waste this much space on a boot drivers, which what ssd is for
No one in 2023 should be playing games off of a HDD
They do if a twittergay makes a short where they zoom-in to an off-screen fruit stand and the fruits aren't individual models with dynamic physics and 4k textures.
i can name a shitload of games released in 1980s that were bigger in scope than today's 3 hour long experiences
Ultima V?
Its a way to prevent piracy. But its too great of a cost on the consumer. Im holistically against the practice of size bloat. I will make exceptions on occasion but ive largely ignored games with high Gb size.
lol I can't run games that big, so I'm safe.
It's to prevent you from installing a competitor's game.
If you can't afford the storage you can't afford the game anyway.
If you pirate like you should then you have more money for storage.
Not my problem.
>5gb of game
>95GB of audio
>I turn off most of the audio immediately anyway
it do be like that
Why don't pictures enlarge when I click them. Is /v borked?
Install GankerX homosexual.
all those games could probably be like 10 GB if they wanted to. what's the largest part of them, the textures? a bunch of jpegs shouldn't be that big
I find patching those 100GB+ games to be even more funny.
>120GB game
>40GB patch
>Total space required to patch the game 275GB.
It's so you don't uninstall their game because reinstalling is going to be a pain
I've been playing the Tomb Raider remake trilogy and say what you will about it but how the frick can that came pack itself into a 30gb package when shit like Fifa is 60GB, not to mention the 100GB shit like Marvel Avengers
Optimizing file sizes.
bigger games = fewer poors play them = better game community
That's like saying thread speed = thread quality.
Lack of compression and keeping audio files for all languages. They want you to only have their game on in prevent you from installing the competing game.
>Ganker still thinks game devs use .bmp and .wav for textures and sound
maybe no wav, but distributing losless audio over a lossy codec like vorbis is beyond moronic (for PC releases at least)
Almost no AAA games are made primary for PC, and on last gen cucksoles even sound decompression and streaming would mean too much work for netbook tier CPU. At least PS5 has dedicated decompression hardware, but because of it many PS5 PC ports have issues with asset decompression. As with every aspect of game development you have to make sacrifices, so it's performance, quality or work needed to implement.
damn, is decompression really that taxing on consoles?
Current gen is much better at it but on last gen cucksoles it was huge issue along with slow storage.
Here's Halo2&3 compressed using xpress8k.
If you want to play AAA then suck it up. I barely play those games and I don't care how poorly made they are.
Why people have shit internet. A 100gb can be downloaded in my shitty internet under 30 minutes.
Textures and uncompressed audio.
Things get bigger
Your peepee gets smaller however
are you aware that game size are getting bigger because of 4k textures ? textures are the heaviest assets in a game ! and now everything must be 4k
Devs should simply put high quality textures as a free DLC so poorgays stop complaining about game size.
you can get a cutting edge tech 2TB ssd for only $100 now what's your excuse?
Good, I hope every game will be 1TB. Let storage space and money be another filter to gaming.
I hope the rumors of GTA6 being 750GB and $150 are true.
Get third worlders OUT OF THIS HOBBY NOW!
They do it intentionally.
This forces people to have to uninstall old games in order to play their new game. This, in turn, contributes to conditioning people in a subliminal way to spend more time playing their new game, since going back and re-installing their old game is hassle.
It is intentional. A way companies limit your options and discreetly guide your hand torwards their products, rather than the competitions.
this has never been the case. devs are just that incompetent and lazy.
I wouldn't mind 100 GB games if there was actually 100 GB worth of content.
Instead nu-games are bloated with uncompressed audio in multiple languages, 4k textures and microtransaction cosmetics
There's nothing wrong with a game being 1TB
Yea, MSFS 2020 is fine.
My schizo theory is that AAA publishers are purposefully bloating the sizes of their games so that players are more likely to keep them installed, since it's harder and more cumbersome to uninstall and download a different game, then redownload the whole thing later. By coercing players to keep these massive games installed, it becomes more likely for consumers to continue engaging with these games microtransaction economies, buy more DLC, etc.
I'm more likely to delete them though, to free up space
You will download those 4 textures and languages that you will never use and you be happy
Just upgrade your internet then.
Hardware limitations forced devs to be clever with optimisation, and thrifty with game assets so games could fit on discs or be downloaded and not take a year. This is no longer an issue. The costs of storage space and internet connectivity can simply be passed onto you now.
How do consolekeks survive with their meager 700gb?
They don't play games
I have two 500 gb SSDs for my vidya and a 250 gb SSD for my main drive and I'm doing fine.
I don't hoard videos or game mods, so that's probably why I have no issues.
They only play 1 game
After beating a game I tend to delete it from the HDD, I have Gran Turismo taking a HUGE chunk of space and only reason I haven't deleted it is because I occasionally play it
They play a game once and never again, only thing they play consistantly is Fortnite, FIFA and CoD.
Honestly, I've just stopped playing AAA games altogether. I can't even think of a good one that came out in the last 14 years.
