"season pass" is misleading. it's 100% free and everything on it gets folded over into the normal loot pool when it ends. it's really just more shit to grind for rather than all the baggage that comes with an actual season pass like mtx and fomo.

You ever search a television show looking for an episode, or maybe pirated a series? Did you notice how sometimes there'd be these weird letters and numbers in the name that look like this:
        >S02E03
The first part (S02) relates to the season of the show, in this case meaning Season 2. These seasons, they're sometimes short (3 episodes), sometimes medium length (12 episodes), and sometimes really long (24+ episodes).
Sometimes these seasons come out regularly every year, but sometimes there are massive gaps between them. Sometimes the show just ends abruptly and you're left without any closure whatsoever. Sometimes there's just 1 season, and sometimes there are many seasons. But one thing is almost always for certain, the seasons do end.
Soap operas are the exception to this rule, they seemingly go on forever, rehashing the same old tropes for ever and ever. Sounds right up your alley.

games aren't television shows you fricking mong
committing to a seasonal format for a videogame is to commit to a schedule, rather than being at the whim of the TV ratings and the network trying to balance out timeslots
His complaint was about how GSG commit themselves to a schedule and then failed to deliver anything but half-assed content past the initial 2 seasons. They set up expectations and then shackled themselves to those expectations and are surprised that people expect things now.

      >Keep supporting and releasing FREE, massive upgrades every other month for FOUR years
I fricking wish. Roughnecks and New Frontiers were the only proper "massive" and free updates and they both took four months a pop. Modest Expectations was decidely un-massive, even telling you so much in the fricking name, and then it took 7 months for us to get to Season 1. At which point, the updates start to get smaller than what they were before and decidedly more half-baked, but whoa hey they're still "free" but please please please buy the cosmetic DLC that these shitty half-baked and poorly implemented updates aren't just ads for. Not to mention it taking 4-5 months to get these updates, and in fact it's a bold fricking move to say 4 years when it's going to be a year total of pretty much nothing until "Season 5," even though the devs admitted they fricked up and the biggest update until then is the option to turn Season 4 off

      >I wish I could teleport all your king back to the year 2000
Many of the games released back then feel decidedly more complete than Deep Rock Galactic did, and many of them did receive at least a year or so of updates or DLC that would blow DRG's 4 years of post-release content out of the water. You might say they're bigger studios, but then I'd just say things are equaled out by about 20 years of technological advancement and years and years of pointless fricking waffling on Ghost Ship Games' part

Man, I wish I could teleport you back to see how disappointing it was every time to see popular multiplayer game not getting any patches, and how much the success of Blizzard was because of their long time support for their games.
But the best example for shit-for-brains morons like you is Age of Empires 2, which was abandoned after 3 patches while still having a gigantic fanbase for its time. The fans tried to keep it alive with all their might, but the netcode was pure spaghetti code and in dire need of fixing. It took nearly 2 decades until microsoft realized how big they fricked up when the fan expansion hit the market with full impact. There was real money in supporting a fan favorite game even two decades later. And now? They patch this game again on a nearly monthly basis, and it's more alive than ever.

On-stie refinery is the single best game mode in Deep Rock and it isn't even close as it involves exploration, environment manipulation and fun movement mechanics. Most other objectives are "kill a thing" or "collectathon."

based. OSR is fun for every class. Drillers can make tunnels to let pipelines through, engineers can create platforms for pipes and use their turrets since you're mostly holding a stationary location, gunners have an open space around the refinery where they can shoot everything, and scouts can frick off and get nitra or whatever since the team isn't waiting for them.

The biggest complaint was the patrol bots, people though they were either too tanky or too fast, but then they did the worse option and nerfed both. Now it's just an annoyance. Did the same to the Stingtail, people complained it was either too armored or had too much health. So they nerfed both and now it's a mild annoyance, but they still haven't fixed it launching you into low-orbit to die to gravity.

Their game is an unworkable spaghetti code monster that makes adding content significantly harder than it should be, hence they're jumping ship and shitting out a roguelike spin off instead. Paradoxically I think rogue core will have less long replayability because of that, the build variety and progression is what gives DRG so much staying power and that simply won't be present in a rogue like.

      Anonymous

literally every game in existence always has "spaghetti code". no matter what developer no matter what game genre it is a constant law of the universe that every codebase is spaghetti.

Once you had seen all the different mission types you should have known how thin the game was. The progression system was just there to extend your playtime even more. Even then the unlockable stuff was only for for a few missions before you realized you were still just doing the same shit over and over again

For a game about dwarves and mining it had little depth. Either everyone on Ganker is just desperate to do things with others or you fell for marketers

Name games that people play for thousands of hours that aren't repetitive and don't have the same general gameplay at 1 hour as they do at 1,000 hours.
Is changing the colour of your loot name and adding a few more numbers and flavour text considered doing different shit over and over again? Or maybe adding new enemies like robots and rockpox would make things less repetitive? I'm sure the community would love if they did something like that.
You know games are meant to be fun, and not a fake mundane job that gives the illusion of progress whilst giving nothing in return.
Shooting bugs and exploring caves is fun for some people. Simple as.

          >Wouldn't it be cool if Sc**ts could spiderman swing around?
It’d also be cool if standing on a ledge or a pinecone didn’t send you flying across the map but I don’t think that’d work well with the game’s shitty engine. Not to mention I can’t imagine how you’d implement it in a way that could make it compare to a hook shot that takes you directly where you need to be. They’re struggling with secondaries and especially the fricking grenades so I can’t imagine they’d be able to create alternative traversal tools that’d be:
          >fun
          >”balanced”
          >maintaining what you’d expect from that class
Alternative options are cool but I don’t want shit for the sake of having shit, especially if I have to deal with that shit through other players. It’s bad enough when gunners bring their delay shield grenades or drillers their team kill grenades

      this is what annoys me
like they have 35 fricking coders working 40+ hours a week
there's no excuse for them not to be adding 10 new enemies, 5 new biomes, 20 new mission types every month or two.

just classic case of lazy c**t devs make their lucky break and waste all their profits fricking dicking around instead of coding more cool shit.

The replayability comes from the randomized caves, events, biomes, mission modifiers, enemy types, objective locations etc. Games like L4D2 and ratclick have thriving playerbases with much less variety.

Does anyone still have screencaps of the abilities/upgrades/whatever in the new game? I remember seeing one of them was literally just 12+ long range damage, they didn't learn from overclocks at all and the game's gonna suffer with all the boring basic upgrade bloat.

      Bro, the infinite replay value?

        Anonymous

Infinite replay value is more or less equivalent to no replay value at all. Why replay when everything is randomized, pacing doesn't exist, and you're at the whims of the RNG? Example, I'd rather replay every one of the original four Shovel Knight games ten times than waste a single moment longer on roguelike crap like Shovel Knight Dig.

Good difficult game design = "Wow, after playing this game many times I am able to beat it without dying"

Bad difficult game design = "Wow, I got all of the "right" upgrades on this run so it's not unwinnable anymore"

I agree. I was just shitposting.

          Anonymous

I'd argue that DRG already does the "roguewhatever" format just fine
You enter with nothing but your guns and each other, the layout is random, the population of enemies is random, and you don't keep nitra between stages (aside from deep dives). So at its core the game is asking you to think on your feet with your combat and mobility tools to work as a team.
Rogue Core is just stripping away your mobility tools and giving everyone the same gun, so you can experience a worse version of DRG where your transformative weapon mods are replaced with +5% crit damage on enemies to your left and other useless checkboxes that will have an optimized build order within a week.

            Anonymous

And this is kind of the problem of many roguelikes...you're taking core gameplay and making it shittier to stretch out "replayability". Imagine if Nintendo decided to follow up Super Metroid with "Super Metroid but a roguelike! No guarantees you'll ever find the morph ball!"

            Anonymous

I particularly like this in complex Aquarc missions, where as a team you map it out and build all kinds of new movement paths over the map with gunner rails and tunnels up and down and it gets lit up. Making it familiar as the mission goes on and it gets covered in dwarf crap. Really cool.

Frick overcharges, what a bullshit mechanic. You can only get matrix cores from weekly core hunts and deep dives, so if you play for 50 hours one week you still only progress the same amount as if you had played for 5. Core infuser events should give you a free core for beating it, so everyone gets rewarded or something like that.

Nah, you just don't play that many games if you think that 1-2 updates a year with such small amounts of content in order to sell associated cosmetic micro-DLC is somehow an impossible feat of passion and altruism for the industry at large these days. The only commendation DRG or Ghost Ship Games deserves is the singular employee named Jonas that provided help with the More Players mod. Everything else in terms of long term support has been the bare minimum for the amount of content that DRG had launched with and they should be commended absolutely fricking nothing for it. The fact that they are now abandoning it in the sorry state it is means they deserve every complaint coming their way.

If they want more credit for providing support, then 1.0 should've been more complete and Season 1-4 shouldn't have been lazy hackjobs done to sell cosmetic outfits.

Oh now that's just bullshit, anon. Deep Rock Galactic has a very typical season pass nowadays, as more and more games have shifted towards having passes be revisited or having the free track be distributed into the game after the season to be gained through other methods. I'd actually go as far as to say it's worse than some other games that are actually more about season pass grind, as compared to something like Sea of Thieves, the way that the free items are redistributed back into the game after the seasonal period ends is way way WAY less of a grindfest than DRG, which is hilarious because that game is basically 100% grind

Red Dead didn't deserve the award, but let's be real, neither did Deep Rock for this year. And it will be another 6 months without any new stuff with already Season 5 confirmed to not add much at all. Sad but the Hypetrain is gone.

    >all these posts saying how bad DRG is
I really don't get it. Yeah it has flaws. I think we've been bored of the fricking stoneherpes for a year now. We're bummed they're now diverting resources to some bullshit cash grab. But DRG is still one of the best games ever made and if you disagree you are a jaded piece of shit. We've got so much free shit from these people and the game has so much fricking soul and you people are STILL shitting all over them. Every season has been free and every piece of seasonal loot gets thrown into the loot table so you're never FOMO'd. They even allow you to hack cosmetics into your saves and don't give a shit so you can easily get the holiday cosmetics as well.

People just got bored anon. That's all. A game can have a very good baseline but if it professes itself as an ongoing game that gets new content, then it's disappointing if all that new content is underwhelming and does very little to improve upon the base game. DRG would probably have a stronger reputation at this point if the developers just released it out of the beta and said "we're done with the game, it's finished have fun", but people feel like they've been strung along with unsatisfying drip feed content due to all the robot/rockpox stuff being less satisfying than the game's normal stuff and most of the "seasons" adding stuff nobody cares about. Why would I care about new bad colors for a secondary pistol when I want better perks?

I think you've got the best answer, is that peoples *expectation* was for some kind of much more regular and larger update cycle, like Apex legends or something, that the dev team cannot support. I can still play left 4 dead 2 with no progression systems at all but thats not how games are made anymore and not what people expect from them.

All of the unlock colors are so bad too.

It's good, certainly not "one of the best ever made".
All the things you listed that the devs did, like no FOMO and access to loot and cosmetics(eventually) is what any decent dev should do already.
They still fricked up balance numerous times and introduced tedium into the game over the course of the last two years.

if it's anything like another game company i know some people in, they probably think

    >"well we made 1 very popular game, we'll just make a couple of new ones and reap more millions ezpz"

completely oblivious to the fact that hitting it this big is some lightning in a bottle shit that is very hard to replicate, no matter how good (you think) you are at making games as a team

        >lmao and look where all that money went now
Supporter Pack 2 is still the scummiest thing fricking imagineable, because they released it around the same time they announced they were publishing all these other games, so everyone was lead to believe that DRG was still going to be their main focus and that's what you were support. Nope, you were just supporting the development of Rogue Core which they suspiciously decided to withhold the announcement for until after a good amount of people would've paid for it.

        >No
        >Actually Yes.
DLC is DLC anon, I don't care what they cope and claim it is otherwise, it's DLC.

The DLC is just some sidegrade cosmetics that don't even look good. They're what you buy if you really want to support the developers but there's no gameplay or good customization hidden in them, it's just symbolic.

    >DEEP ROCK GALACTIC: ROGUE CORE is a spinoff of Deep Rock Galactic with a roguelite twist. The roguelite twist means you start from basics in each mission and cooperatively build up powers and abilities for the team, sometimes leading to insanely overpowered builds and other times to spectacular flops.

    >purposefully design game so it is only fun 25% of the time
this trend is so fricking gay it's unbelievable

It's even worse, Rogue Core is a purely movement-based roguelite, meaning all attacks and skills are used automatically and you can only walk around. it's designed to be played on mobile.

It's bizarre, all the spinoffs would make you think they're trying to turn Deep Rock Galactic into a big franchise and yet they're abandoning the flagship game.

They want more money and the redditors buying the cosmetics to "support the devs" have dried up. They should have scrapped that idea and just made paid expansion packs instead.

    >"seasons"
I haven't played modern multiplayer games in a long time
I can't see myself playing multiplayer games that do that
But that probably is every new multiplayer game?

The problem with "seasons" in MP games is that a battlepass or season format usually means you'll be locked out of seasonal content and rewards if you miss that season, or in some cases if you don't pay during it. DRG doesn't have that problem since all the seasonal content is later integrated into normal gameplay and all the rewards are just sent into the normal reward pool, and there's no payment involved.

Just bought this on PC. Is the new update really that bad? I might just refund it. I had it on console during the initial Rockpox season and played it a lot but stopped right as the new Rockpox season dropped. I was lukewarm on Rockpox content. Thought it might be good on PC with better framerate/graphics and it wasn't that expensive.

No, the game is really fun if you just got it, go nuts. If it clicks for you, you have a couple hundred hours of good times ahead of you. Playing with randoms is encouraged, everyone is cool and very friendly.
Like many other people who are upset with the direction the game is heading, I have 300+ hours in it and just can't stand it anymore. The fact that they outright said "dont expect anything new, we're working on some dogshit instead" got a lot of people even more riled up, but I just outright stopped playing. Maybe i'll come back next year, but I have more than my share of missions under my belt as is

      Anonymous

only people with 1000+ hours think its even slightly bad, and only because they endlessly grinded lithophage only missions.

      Anonymous

You know how sometimes, your mission gets interrupted by a meteor or two? Season 4 introduces a miniboss that may randomly appear where a meteor would be, and it's the single most tedious enemy to kill in the entire game.

        Anonymous

Sounds awful. I didn't mind the meteors but lithophage outbreaks became very tedious and I ended up just avoiding them whenever possible. I don't know why they doubled down on this shit. Do you at least have an option to fight the miniboss when it shows up?

          Anonymous

You're not required to kill the boss, but it covers the floor with rockpox spikes as it moves around, so killing it makes the rest of the mission more convenient
