there is no strawman. Your arguments are just poor.

the moron who trains 6+ pokemon evenly while constantly swapping pokemon in the middle of battles and taking hits is more likely to have to spam healing items.

because you can beat it by overleveling your starter? that's every Pokemon game man. That's how 6 year olds who first get into the series play the game.
He learned from his groomed Kalosperms to play in the most underage way possible, and be sure to use the word "objectively" and every shitty ragebait argument ever.
Yawngay only likes nugen slop and palworld, him latching onto emerald is a D&C tactic
Honestly at this point he’s probably an unironic shill that gets paid to shit on the games with actual effort put into them to make lazy garbage look good by comparison. But honestly he should move to another place considering not a single person here takes him seriously, I bet he’d be very successful on Reddit or twitter
I did a minimum exp solo run of Emerald tonight from start to finish. Basically I followed the any% glitchless speedrun route for trainer fights, except I skipped the Rustboro Gym trainers and battled the rightmost trainers in the Petalburg Gym for the least possible exp. I accidentally battled the Rusturf Tunnel hiker, but I don't think it changes anything. What can you do.
This was more or less what happened: >pick Mudkip >no Water Gun for Roxanne's first Geodude, so I spammed Mud Slap on it and prayed I never got hit >skip Brawly until Norman split >cheese Slateport Rival with Mud Slap again on Grovyle >the rest of the Wattson and Flannery splits were easy and uneventful >beat Brawly >cheese Norman with the Double Team TM from the soot route >pick up Amulet Coin >spam Double Team again on Fortree Rival's Slugma to dodge Grovyle's Leaf Blade >skip Winona until post-Magma Hideout to get Swampert and get enough money for the Ice Beam TM >start using items on T&L and Juan because they're bullshit >reach the league at level 48 >spam X items and Full Restores to win at level 55 (very high 54 in a legit run)
Fun fact, the league alone accounts for roughly 1/3 of the total exp in this run.
I always found gen 3 to be frontloaded. You'll find tons of new pokemon up until Norman and barely see any old pokemon at all. The second half of the game is more tedious imo, lots of repel spam and the story drags a bit. If I drop the game its often around 6 badges in.
God damn, getting those berries was a pain in the ass. Now I just need liechi, lansat, and starf. I don't think I can get enigma in emerald, the best way I can see is through depositing a scanned enigma into JP Pokemon Box Ruby & Sapphire and withdrawing it into a save with no scanned card data, but I don't think that can interface with EN Emeralds, nor can the berries be traded directly.
Fortunately you can clone items, which solves that dilemma. 96 hours for 2 berries is cancer. The only 96 hour berries worth growing are Strib berries, and that's because they have a yield of 12 and can be transformed from the quick, 4-hour Chilan berries.
>the worst implementation of water routes in the series
Reminder that the Lilycove Department store sells Max Repels for a reason and that you can avoid most of the tedium of the water routes that immediately follow Lilycove by not having to face Tentacool every 5 seconds.
Not him but the problem with Hoenn's water routes is specifically that they have basically no level design, on every single one of them be it the optional beginning ones or the late game ones you can find level 8 tentacools but also up to level 35 ones, which is like 10 levels higher than you will be when you get surf, and those will appear even if you set a repel because of that
>they have basically no level design
Yes they do, the constant dive spots that lead you to areas covered by large rocks and individual remote islands ARE the level design. You're meant to explore it. It's just all completely optional so unless you're a completionist you're not going to bother. >up to level 35 ones, which is like 10 levels higher than you will be when you get surf, and those will appear even if you set a repel because of that
first off, You get Surf after beating Norman, that's gym 5, and the main water routes (meaning the biggest ones that are absolutely neccessary to beat the game) don't start until after Lilycove. That's Gym 6, by that point you should be over level 35. Theres only one surf spot that's required prior to this and that's going from Mauville to Route 118 which is an incredibly small patch of water.
You misunderstood what i meant by level design, i meant the levels of wild pokemon
And yes i know the early routes are optional, i even pointed it out. >That's Gym 6, by that point you should be over level 35
Not necessarily but you will be close yes. But only one level higher than your lead is enough to break through repels
I'm just saying i've never had a problem using this tactic when replaying Gen 3. The game is so generous with it's level balancing that unless you're actively avoiding as many trainers as possible you should already be at least level 35 by Lilycove City to avoid the wild encounters since the water routes are towards the end of the game anyways. I'm not denying the scenario and it's really unlikely unless you're actively trying to make the game harder for yourself by keeping your Pokemon low leveled
>dude just ignore the pokemon in the pokemon game and turn the game into a boring as shit walking simulator!
So it is poorly designed, yes. At least it's better than Sinnoh.

If even a 6 year old can easily break the game then it’s a good case for the game being poorly designed.

"rare" berries are such a pain in the ass to get in gen 3. Taking like 5 days to grow something that only yields two berries is moronic.
Don't forget how two of them are locked behind latias and latios, two post game, roaming, version exclusive legendaries
