No objective answer to that, it's got pros and cons like all the games in this series, if you like what you see then try it, can't go wrong here since it's the most polished game of the PSX trilogy
Yes, if you are gonna grab the steam version it's a must. Moguri Mod is how the real remaster should look like.
The steam/PS4/Switch port is just a shitty crashgrab and a port from the phone version, the mod did a better job than square-enix, to the point it's only reason why anyone would grab the "remaster" over original PS1

I love FFIX as well, but not to the extent that others do. It has a great setting for its first half, but sort of falls apart after, especially when Queen Brahne is killed and characters like Steiner and others become merely background characters.

Moguri mod allows you to force the battles to be turn-based so you can crank up the battle speed to maximum and still play it without issue.
Also you can turn-on 100% success rate on steals which is great if you're replaying the game and don't want to waste too much time getting all the items from bosses.
PC version looks like shit no matter what you do. Lap it up anyway zoomer homosexuals, I'll be enjoying the PS original on an RGB CRT display, as it was intended.
First of all, what is an RGB CRT?
Secondly, I already played FF9 as a kid on a CRT, and it was always a visual mess. You could never make out what the hell you were looking at because the game had so much more detail than the TVs could display and the result just looked like soup. I remember finding out much later on modern displays that there was actually writing on Vivi's ticket at the beginning of the game, and that what you were looting on the rooftops as were actually bird nests.

Play it for the first time with moguri mod, 10 hours in. I put it off for years because of the art style, but it's shaping up to be my favourite final fantasy. Great nuanced characters and dialogue, surprisingly.
