Still need to play this, is it really the best Megaten has to offer? My favorite so far has been SMT1, but I've enjoyed all the Megaten games I've finished.
I have not played all the games, but DDS is extremely good. Just be sure to use hunt abilities to make leveling your mantras easier because it can be a bit frustrating if you don't.
I'll keep that in mind about hunt abilities. I've been debating what my next Megaten game should be, might be easy to do both DDS games next. My other immediate choices are Last Bible II, the first Raidou game (which I played a little bit on my PS3 but emulation for PS2 games on the slim is lacking so I never finished it), or Majin Tensei.
I've heard Majin Tensei sucks but is LB2 really bad? I played through the first one on Game Gear and while it's definitely lacking, I thought it was fine. I'd love to see someone remake it with better demon negotiation, better longer dungeons, and harder bosses.
I never played it, but I would still recommend playing DDS before because it is a massive staple of the series.

Fair enough. I think I'll do DDS next then. What's your favorite non DDS game, anon? SMT1's still my favorite Megaten game, even if it's easy as hell.

Probably 4 or SJ

Nice choices. SJ's my favorite after SMT1 and 2. I loved the dungeon design. I remember people hyping up Sector E as being some impossible to explore place and what I got instead was a fairly fun floor that had an actually fun teleporter puzzle. People did the same thing with YHVH's Universe in 4A and I thought that was one of the better parts of that game too.
SJ was pretty sweet, I do love that game. I'm sure I'll like DDS just fine though. I wish someone would release a hack that makes SMT1 harder. Just make Zio/Nerve Bullet stunlocking not as strong, and maybe make bosses a little tougher, and I think it'd be a much more challenging game.
That sounds like bullshit. Normal mode seemed identical to the original and I remember hearing that it specifically nerfed Zio spam.

Hard mode of PS1 version absolutely does not nerf anything, SMT1 is a really easy game even without zio spam or nerve bullets.

in my recollection, the only difference is you gain more experience in the PSX normal mode, and the expert mode is balanced the same way it was in the original.

>the only difference is you gain more experience in the PSX normal mode
A very quick test proves that's not the case. Fairies give 16 XP in both the original and the PS1's normal mode.

Interesting. Then I do wonder what the changes actually were if any.

Checked some Japanese wikis and the only thing concrete is that normal lowers the encounter rate.

>normal lowers the encounter rate
not enough then, because I barely noticed a difference when I played it on normal after beating the SFC version

Also I think that's the GBA version you're thinking of, but I'm not sure. I do know it's still very much prevalent in the PSX port
Even as a dungeon crawler I really didn't enjoy it. Removing the demon fusion made it a bit boring to me. Although yes the architecture and style are interesting.
It was my own opinion though. I went in thinking it would be a fantastic game that would blow me away like SJ had because others said so.. But I disliked it, many such cases were had.
>can still legally get all of the PS2 SMT games on a PS3 for $10 each >Atlus hasn't bothered moving any of that forward to the PS4/PS5 where people are still actively buying digital games
I don't get it.
Encounter ratio is so terrible that it negates any other good thing the game got going on. The only way this can be enjoyable is if you can time travel into the era before broadband internet where hundred types of different superior entertainment aren't available one phone tap away
Boring as frick gameplay like all jrpgs with incredibly dull sounding voice actors that put me to sleep. Also seems cheap, and stilted. Did atlus cut back there workforce for this one?
>Can any other JRPG compete?
Yeah literally every other game in the series is better than DDS, even persona. I'm sick and tired of the "DDS is underrated" meme.

I would pick DDS over them because all of them are kusoge except for arguably Raidou.

Based.
You'll probably enjoy Strange Journey over DDS.

Play the PS1 port. It has a hard mode.
I might just do that then, I wonder how much harder it actually is.
hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the "hard mode" in the PS1 Port is unfortunately just the same difficulty of the original SFC version.
That sounds like bullshit. Normal mode seemed identical to the original and I remember hearing that it specifically nerfed Zio spam.

I played it for like 10hs. Don't remember much but the music was good for sure
>Can any other JRPG compete?
yes actually... the sequel.
PC remaster when!?
in like 5 or 10 years probably.
Yes! This needs to be bundle into one game and sold in current year on various platforms. For once op isn’t a homosexual
It’s mid
Too many random encounters, confusing maps. Too edgy and silent. The music was kind of boring too.
OP should've used DRPG term instead of JRPG instead.

>Too many random encounters
true
>confusing maps.
>Too edgy and silent.
>The music was kind of boring too.
bad bait.
Absolutely based DDS enjoyer
Absolutely unbased DDS hater, form your own opinions for once.
It was my own opinion though. I went in thinking it would be a fantastic game that would blow me away like SJ had because others said so.. But I disliked it, many such cases were had.
I understand why others might like it though.
>The music was kind of boring too
Absolutely shit tier opinion
Compared to others in the series, I felt that it was tbh. Maybe electric guitars focused songs aren't my thing.
Serious question. Are you a homosexual? I'm not asking out of any malice or anything, I'm just curious.
>can still legally get all of the PS2 SMT games on a PS3 for $10 each

I don't get it.
iirc the psn versions have save-killing bugs for some reason, maybe they're aware
I knew Nocturne had a bug because iirc it's based on the EU release, but I didn't know DDS had issues too. Maybe it's tied to the engine?
it's probably whatever they use to emulate it, since the originals and emulating the originals yourself with pcsx2 doesn't have anything of the sort
I could see that. While emulating PS1 games with Sony's stuff was always reliable for me, their PS2 emulation really does suck.
It's a universal problem with their software PS2 emulator on PS3. Just have to make semi-regular backups of your PS2 save to a USB stick.
Post kino songs from the OST

we weren't asking about ur sex life
>finds all jrpgs boring
>still plays them to the point where they're even acquainted with the catalog of companies like ATLUS
this bait is smelly
>Can any other JRPG compete?
Yeah literally every other game in the series is better than DDS, even persona. I'm sick and tired of the "DDS is underrated" meme.
>Can any other JRPG compete?
Nope. Personacels stay seething. Get real friends.
%3D%3D
there are literally better games in the same series pleb.
