>why don't indie devs that work on games in their spare time after waging have the same production values of a full team of professional salaried developers and artists working on what was at the time a AAA title
The problem is that 99% of them cross the line between inspiration and ripoff. For example, from
, Slop & Hunger is the only one that it isn't a straight copy paste of another game. You can tell it has some influences from Silent Hill, but it differs enough to be its own thing.
there is no such thing as a wholly original idea, you can only create 'new' things by combining things that already exist, and the majority of the big ideas have already been done
creating new ideas is like sweeping up broken glass, the big ideas come first, and then you're sweeping shards and dust which is where we are now since genres and sub-genres and their game design principles have mostly been established
indies often recreate what they already enjoy with slight variations because it gives them a better framework to work within, and they want more of what they enjoy
since making games is so difficult, it's easier for beginners to stick with something more manageable than it is to create something entirely new and ambitious that's never been done before (and very likely to fail spectacularly, as they might have no experience releasing even a simple game yet)
often times indie devs work their way up in ambition after they get more experience under their belt anyway
I only read the first paragraph and I can tell you are complete and useless moron with no talent nor skills.
Kys or gg, no one wants to hear copes on "b-but everything is already done" to justify low quality indieslop when the important part is how it's done. There have been hundreds of art pieces on the The Last Judgment or The Annunciation and all of them radically differ from each other. And you have games like Alundra, Star Tropics or Brain Lord, they all have clear influences from Zelda but are distinct enough to be their own thing.
The problem is you made up that stat and then proceeded to make an argument based off that made up stat.
I won't just reply back with >lol _____ if you answer what are some truly original games that you've found?
I wouldn't have any issues with honest ripoffs if THE FANS of these games were just fricking up front about what they really are instead of trying to sell me on a lie.
I tire of shit like >KEKED ECHOES IS TOTALLY CHRONO TRIGGER INSPIRED >go to play it >not a single part of it is anything like Chrono Trigger, and not in a good way >UNDER TALE IS EARTHBOUND INSPIRED >go to play it >there's literally not a single element in common between the two >same complaint for Omori >PIZZA TOWER IS TOTALLY NU-WARIO LAND >go to play it >at best its gameplay bears a passing similarity, but is otherwise not Wario Land-like >CRYSTAL PROJECT IS LIKE MODERN-DAY FF5 BRO >go to play it >mere existence of a job system aside, it's too different from FF5 to be compared to it favorably, and the way it handles the job system is not at all like FF5
>Ganker is always b***hing about dead or slept on IPs >gets mad when it's not their favorite company making a new entry
Nevermind that nearly every "original" game in the OP is one in a series, which doesn't make them any less derivative than their counterparts.
The only people that compare Undertale and Omori to Earthbound are the parrots on Ganker that also lump in LISA and YN all together as SAD DEPRESSED EARTHBOUND CLONES :^) because they don't actually play video games.
Are you literally moronic? The hardest part about game development is actually coming up with an idea, let alone an art style, a theme, deciding how the gameplay would work. These ideas didn't exist before and someone had to imagine them. It's easy for a small team of talentless homosexuals or even one subhuman moron to literally steal and poorly reproduce someone's idea and style when they can just jump into the game and leech everything from it. You fricking mouth breathing cum guzzling troon.
Indies only do 3 things >popular game: the clone >movie game in pastel colors about getting cuckolded >comically violent game set to heavy music that's clearly made by an overcompensating man who plays movie games with pastel colors about getting cuckolded
No shit. Tripul Ayyy aren't devs, they are a subhuman sweatshop that only produces the most popular slop following a single stolen pattern that every other shitty sweatshop also uses. Most of the actual developers left the industry in the 90s or had their small start ups swallowed up. No more making games, just making money.
>you know that old game you liked that was kinda half-baked and never going to be made again? here's a version of it with modern controls and improvements that you can play for hours on end >this is somehow a bad thing
This is some nintendo making sure game preservation is obsolete kind of logic.
>you know that old game you liked that was innovative, well crafted and had top notch production values for its time? here's a poorly made copy of it with artificially ugly graphics and garbage unreal store animations
if you dont find this visual style atrocious then idk what to tell you, we have a fundamentally different aesthetic sensibility, years of playing indie slop must have turned your brain to mush
Can't wait to hear you backtrack on this opinion when a multibillion dollar bing wahoo company decides to make this same artstyle for their underpowered system.
>Can't wait to hear you backtrack on this opinion when a multibillion dollar bing wahoo company decides to make this same artstyle for their underpowered system.
? this is something soul soulless posters also recurrently complain about
Indie games be like: >wholesome diversity cozy farm/date sim >Roguelike Deckbuilder >Bullet Hell Roguelite >Metroidvania Roguelite >quirky Earthbound inspired rpg about mental illness (Or just wacky or surreal for the heck of it) >anime visual novel but memes >Vampire Survivors clone >Precision Platformer that's either wholesome reddit or an allegory to mental illness >Remember POPULAR/CLASSIC GAME? >backrooms liminal analog horror walksim >unity asset-flip horror walksim >PSX Horror Game >Memes: The Game >generic JRPG >Remember the 80s? >Weeaboo Game BUT IRONIC!!! >Boomer Shooter >LGBTQ+ BLM ACAB ANTIFA ANTICAPITALISM PUTIN BAD TRUMP BAD: the low effort indie game >George Floyd Simulator >VN about how being depressed sucks and shit >Eroge/Furry/Vore game but really bad >Autism Project >The Best Game You Have Ever Played
Why does it take you morons five to ten years to realize the obvious? Maybe in another five you'll start to realize that "indie" games are very often not that "indie" at all.
>make a clone of some of my favorite games >show it off on Ganker dev threads sometimes >someone gets mad and invents this completely different idea and says i should make it instead >"no i wanna make this game" >he gets mad and whines that i cant accept feedback
>every indie puzzle game I play is just a ripoff of another game or several games combined made by one guy praying to get big so he can retire
I am really sick of seeing unity store assets
>AAA can't make good games anymore so indie are taking the torch
where's the problem as long as it's well done? You will still sell games by making AAA crap don't worry
Imagine, just imagine, being an indie developer. You have complete freedom to express yourself creatively, freedom, nothing holding you back, yet.. what do you create? The same boring, politically correct tripe that everyone has already done, just to please your contemporaries. No different story structure, same boring banal dialogue ala reddit/Joss Whedon tier of cringe, hell, not even subverting expectations, and if they do manage to feel "adventurous" that day, it's the same shit everyone has seen already because it's the same safe boring frickery. I laugh when people say that Indies will save us from AAA/AAAA. No.
They weren't kidding with "worse graphics" in this image, after all
Turns out it applies even to smaller scale games that look nice and have good art direction under limitations too
Look here, we've got a live zoomer moron in the thread. People have been saying there's been nothing good made in the past 15 years for the past 30 years. Games are not bad just because you're a loser that grew up playing Halo and have zero ability to branch out into other genres.
I grew up playing Wolfenstein 3D and MDK actually but if making strawmans does it for you go for it good buddy. I hope all of you and this hobby dies forever. Burn all trace of it from the collective memory. Hate and curses for all eternity for gamers.
Doom too but I was too chicken shit to play it for a good while so I don't qualify it as grew up with. Again, whatever strawman makes you happy buddy. Long as you spontaneously combust sooner than later.

Sure anon, keep pretending. We know what you really are.
Pretty much everyone who was an early game dev did because how the frick else would you get into it? Jesus Christ got a real love Sherlock Holmes here. Too bad he can't deduce when someone is being facetious!
I only recognize XCOM UFO Defense, RE1, Super Matroid, Ducktales, Shovel Knight, SOTC (?), FEAR (?), Streets of Rage 2, MGS1, Mario Bros, BRAID, Out Run, Horizon Chase Turbo, Metal Slug 3, Axiom Verge, Earrthbound, Undertale, and Link's Awakening (?).
>why don't indie devs that work on games in their spare time after waging have the same production values of a full team of professional salaried developers and artists working on what was at the time a AAA title
Not OP, but I don't actually care about the "production values" of indie games. I care about the game design, which is also shit.
way to miss the point, mongoloid

Fricking Chained Echoes got me with the same "it's CT inspired" shit. Still mad that I fell for it.

a "team of professional developers" then was about the size of an indie dev team now.

There is a indie Driver?
The funny thing is that they are all worse than the games they tried to copy
>implying that Kojima game didn't copy Penumbra/amnesia
>Comparing Donkey Kong to Braid
Are you fricking kidding...
That level is literally a reference to DK moron, look at it
They aren't remotely similar games just because of visual references you fricking idiot
Who said they are? It's just an image showing that this one location they did actually copy.
What is the game with that tree with an eye?
They're King's Field and Lunacid.
Bootlegs were a thing since pretty much a begging of home vidya entertainment.
Indies only do 3 things
>popular game: the clone
>movie game in pastel colors about getting cuckolded
>comically violent game set to heavy music that's clearly made by an overcompensating man who plays movie games with pastel colors about getting cuckolded
they at least do 2 more things than AAA devs
Absolutely BTFO.
Call of Duty has better game design than 99% of indie games
This. And so does Fifa and NBA<current year>. Now these are real games.
Call of Duty is much better than sports games, indiegay.
No shit. Tripul Ayyy aren't devs, they are a subhuman sweatshop that only produces the most popular slop following a single stolen pattern that every other shitty sweatshop also uses. But that doesn't describe Tunic or Neon White. Want to directly talk to people or continue talking past people in this thread?

This doesn't happen AAAgay.
look at all the left examples in op's image
they wouldn't still get copied to this day otherwise, indiebrainded idiot
I don't get something, is Lurçat supposed to be bad?
>But that doesn't describe Tunic or Neon White.
It does.
don't put hyper demon together with the absolute pigslop that is the rest of this list
Neon White is great and you're a homosexual
None of the games in the pic is good
Indie games be like:

Wow that's 15 more types of games than every AAA.
Epic joke bro, I'm rofe-girlng and kekking and lmaoing
>every indie I played are contestants for the last one
>even indie games are just remakes
When are we going to get some original games like Minecraft?
Any indie games set in Kiev?
Why does it take you morons five to ten years to realize the obvious? Maybe in another five you'll start to realize that "indie" games are very often not that "indie" at all.

sometimes Ganker is weird
>every indie puzzle game I play is just a ripoff of another game or several games combined made by one guy praying to get big so he can retire
I am really sick of seeing unity store assets
Some of these are just the same genre.
What is this tree game near the center? I'm already 25+

>AAA can't make good games anymore so indie are taking the torch
where's the problem as long as it's well done? You will still sell games by making AAA crap don't worry

if you watch 0.2 seconds of gameplay of this, you would know it isnt a "lazy clone"
They weren't kidding with "worse graphics" in this image, after all
Turns out it applies even to smaller scale games that look nice and have good art direction under limitations too
>whoever made picrel
Guarantee you it's some troonyster from /agdg/ who got angry over the fact that he had to actually work on his game.
what's the name of the silent hill clone game ?
frick you
you don't like anything
Nothing from the past 15 years, anyways. Letting people raised on video games make video games was a mistake.
Look here, we've got a live zoomer moron in the thread. People have been saying there's been nothing good made in the past 15 years for the past 30 years. Games are not bad just because you're a loser that grew up playing Halo and have zero ability to branch out into other genres.

Hold on now Todd, we never said that. I don't like any sort of producer of commercial product.
>we never said that.
