It actually does seem fricking horrible. I only played for about an hour but not one single game did it feel like it was actual skill mattering. It always felt one either me or my opponent just “out-statted” them. Whether it be through damage, tankiness, or speed/flight.
Because of this, 3v3 will probably be the standard.
Expect balance patches sooner or later. I wouldn't get too invested in PVP atm

Am I moronic? The game is about mech building. Why would it not be build based? If you get two mechs of roughly equal power, then skill comes in but isn't the whole point to make the most efficient mech possible and dominate other mechs? If you lose, it means your build isn't good enough.

It's rock paper scissors between short, medium and long range mechs anyway, something will always get you no matter how you build your mech.
I've had a great time with a light reverse joint AC with 2 energy rifles. As long as you know how to avoid missiles, nothing can hit you.
God help you if you do get hit, though.

PVP in AC games has always been just this. Only AC5 tried to focus on online multiplier and didn't do as well because of it.
From mp modes are always petty unbalanced. After dark souls 2 they REALLY gave up.
