I love Ace Combat 2, plays great and had a ton of fun with it.
Naturally I went to AC3 and I don't like the controls, something feels off and makes me not want to play it at all.
I do use the simple (Arcady) control scheme as I like that the best, but not sure that matters here.
On top of that I went ahead and did a few missions of AC4 on the PS2 and that plays great again.
What gives? Did they really change the control scheme of 3 or is it a (Me) issue?

Publisher forced them to make the controls worse in hopes it'd bring up the sales of PS1 flight sticks before the PS2 came out.
>I do use the simple (Arcady) control scheme as I like that the best, but not sure that matters here.
Theres your mistake. Use expert controls
even with expert controls it feels sluggish.
better physics
just git gud
>playing the us version
kek, m8 patch the jap version to English. You're missing 65% of the game.
Ace 5 was trash, so that means every Ace Combat is trash, maybe I just don't like Japanese games. Euros are kings of any vehicle games and simulation.
What didn't you like about 5? Depending on your answer, the others may be better.
The story and I don't remember there being random skirmishes, just the story mode. It's been a number of years, but I was disappointed by my expectations. I thought I was getting a milsim version of MSFS or Jane's Fighter.
Did you make this game or do you have the strain of autism that makes it so you feel a compulsion to lash out towards people who have a different opinion about the things you like?
How are the controls bad? Last I remember it has the same scheme as AC2. Do you mean the physics?
have a nice day, moron.
I should've said physics indeed.
Like someone else mentioned, game feels sluggish. Slow to turn your craft for instance when compaired to AC2 (or 4)
Maybe they went with more realistic physics? But I do not have fun with that, too bad since the game does seem to have more creative missions than 2
AC3's physics are a bit more reaslistic than the others. When you turn, there's a little bit of inertia pushing your aircraft in the direction you were going before turning. I like it, to be honest.
>Come to a thread for a game you don't like
>Talk shit instead of just saying you don't like it
>Admit that you have barely even played one game in the series
>Get hit
>Moan like a b***h
I reiterate: have a nice day, moron.
You're right, the controls suck. You have one job: fly planes.
Ie, game sucks.
Thanks, I'll try the game with the expert controls later, see if that helps
Okay I tried with expert controls (did 4 missions) and it's definately better, but still not satisfactory for me at least.
I have the same experience as this guy:
Hmz, I might try out the 1st one just for fun. these games are (too) short anyway.
And there does not seem to be much else like this on the PSX right? I only know of "Eagle one: harrier attack" but those controls are really bad.
I've never played a flying game before and had an absolute blast with Air Combat. I was not expecting to have so much fun
Can't pitch and roll at the same time, I found. Made me go back to AC2
...?
Yes you can, anon.
Okay, you can, but it's at a snail's pace. It's not fluid or with any speed at all. Diagonal movement is horrible. If you roll or pitch exclusively, you move fine.
Different aircraft have different turning rate stats. Turning rate also depends on how fast you're going, so don't foget to slow down if you want to pull tight maneuvers. Also, the more A and S marks you get on each mission, the better aircraft you'll unlock. Some of the later ones turn and accelerate on a dime.
The diagonal movement bug/jank is with any plane.
When you do an aileron and pitch at the same time, only use one wing flap is pitching the aircraft, as the other flap has to be pointing down in order to do the roll. Logically, either maneuver is faster on its own compared to a barrel roll with both of them.
Not him, but I think the point here is that they dropped the super arcade physics from the 2nd game and went with more realism.
This naturally bites those people who prefer the arcade controls where you can pitch and roll at the same time without issues.
Yeah it's a bit more grounded, hence why it didn't sell well enough in Japan. They made them more arcadey over time after AC3. Personally I love them all but it might not be for everyone.
It's weird that they picked AC3 for more grounded physics, given how advanced the tech should be.
Almost like a reflection of videogame technology advancing by leaps and bounds. Then again if we didn't have euclidean physics in it we wouldn't have those fantastic sub-orbital missions.
Yeah, Zero Gravity wouldn't work near as well if they tried to make it today using, say, 7's physics.
>do use the simple (Arcady) control scheme
Don't tell me you played the other games like this too
>only use one wing flap
only one wing flap*
