because I feel like witnessing a shitstorm this morning what are some actual good remakes?
I played Persona 3 Reload recently and its one of the rare instances of a remake actually being better than the original in nearly every way. With so many completely shitty remakes coming out why isn't this more common? What are some other /vr/ remakes on this level of quality?
Dk 94. Frick you it counts
I like the Dragon Quest DS remakes, but they are controversial.
Wait they’re controversial? I just finished 4 on the DS and loved it but never played the NES version so I genuinely can’t comment on it. I know the DS added an extra chapter and I played that as well, do people hate the additions to it?
I think some people don't like the localizations (the nonstop puns, the accents). They get a little too clever for their own good sometimes but I don't mind them. I think the remakes make the games quite a bit easier overall and some people get bent out of shape about that.
Super Mario all stars.
>Super Mario all stars.
>REmake
only ones coming to mind for me
Final Fantasy 1 and 2 on PSX.
DQ5 on PS2. Literally the only remakes I'd ever recommend.
I think Trials of Mana blows away SD 3 (which is very good but very flawed in a lot of ways). It's one of the few remakes that I almost unequivocally prefer over the original. The only real flaw IMO is that I prefer high quality SNES sprite art to polygons as a rule...but I'll admit it does look nice.
I'm playing through the FF Pixel Remasters right now...and I don't hate them. They're not perfect, and the rough edges of the originals have been shaved down so much that there's almost no tension anymore...but I'm having fun for the most part.
that's a good one, i honestly forgot Trials of Mana was a remake. The designs went crazy too.
It has the worst english dubbing of any game ive seen in the last 10 years as well and I think its worth playing just for that. There's moments where you can hear the VAs stumble their lines and read them like a question and they just leave it in.
Yeah the voice acting is sort of irritating at times but I can tune it out when I need to. There's no way you are going to make Charlotte NOT annoying as hell.
Just sorted my Steam library by the remake tag and here's the ones I thought were really good:
>Castle of Illusion
>DuckTales Remastered
>Destroy All Humans!
>Final Fantasy III (3D Remake)
>Final Fantasy IV (3D Remake)
>Onee Chanbara Origin (more of a reimagining of the first two PS2 games)
>Spyro Reignited Trilogy (I think hating on this is just a Ganker meme, it's a genuine 10/10 in my book)
All Dragon Quest remakes are good
Fatal Frame 2 on the Wii
REmake obviously
Zero Mission and Samus Returns
OoT3D
I'm not saying they are better than the originals, just that they are good
the original Gaysona 3 on the PS2 was garbage so this remake being ''better'' doesn't mean anything because the bar was so low
>DQ5 on PS2
would have been good if the graphics weren't shit and the models weren't soulless chibi slop replacing the beatiful 2D sprites
the NDS version is the ultimate version of DQ5
>REmake obviously
worse than the original, i can't wait for you posers to stopp jerking off to that slop once the new remake of RE1 is announced
I liked the recent System Shock remake
>Persona 3 Reload
>better than the original
Do people like to be wrong on purpose? I see so much of it here.
I beat it the other day and it’s a considerable step up. Admittedly I beat FES before and not the original release.
It left the story completely alone, and added more mechanics to Tartarus and the battle system. Tartarus in the original was a slog, so adding stuff like side areas with tougher encounters, people rescues, and giant treasure hands was a welcome way to break up the monotony.
If you actually like p3 and aren’t just being a new = bad contrarian then I’d recommend trying it once it’s on sale.
your opinion on others means absolutely nothing if you don't actually explain your position or reasoning.
Frick remakes, only remasters.
if going by really old stuff
river city ransom (pc engine)
double dragon 2 nes (pc engine)
dragon quest 1-4 (snes)
