Because they'd have to fully commit to voice acting for all of the major characters and over 500 species of Pokemon, which in turn would require a VA crew for every supported language, which would add far more dev time and cost to make a game every single year.
they kinda did for a while with pikachu and eevee but then went back on it. i wonder why?
are cries too iconic? too practical?
is having pokemon say their cries a mistake they regret or actually like?
it's such a weird concept that they are never quite sure what to do with
I think Game Freak just decided it didn't fit the games. It's probably no coincidence Pikachu and Eevee lost their anime voices in PLA, a game that really stressed that idea of pokemon as wild animals.
Pokémon saying their names is fricking gay. The anime only did this so they could shill their mons to little children so they could memorize their names better and buy the toys.
Because Pokemon saying their names is fricking moronic. The idea was, much like most kaiju, they all have an iconic sound that is immediately associated with it. Like, imagine Godzilla without his roar. Granted, it didn't always pan out like that, it took until like Gen 4 for any Pokemon cry to become that iconic outside of Japan (Xatu's "two-two" is a little bit of a meme, but Kriketune is on a whole other level).
Its dumb. Why couldn't they just use basic growls/roars/other vocalizations based on the mons inspiration? If I remember one of the spinoff animes did that. Surely it'd be cheaper than hiring voice actors.
Because it's a marketing tactic to help illiterate toddlers know how to harass their parents for the merchandise. Even if they can't read, if Pikachu says its name enough alongside the characters, then they'll know to screech at mommy to buy them the new Pikachu toy.
I've always admired the bold genius of such a moronic idea. It's so simple and stupid, but makes sure there's no question as to what a monster's name is and it becomes a very unique part of the brand's identity. I hate it. I always like it more when we have those rare occasions where the Pokemon make noises other than their names.
The most interesting thing about this part of the brand's identity is the internal resistance to it at GF. There really is a large component of people who seem to outright dislike the idea that Pokemon canonically just say their own names. I don't just mean that because that'd be a nightmare for localization compared to the synthesized cries, there really seems to be a group internally that never wants the name-cries to become standardized on principle.
>a nightmare for localization compared to the synthesized cries
This is why the mainline games won't have all the Pokémon saying their names. They recently added a made up language to all the text that's not part of the gameplay, removed the anime cries, and even went as far as to blur tutorial text.

Cause then would then have to voice all the pokemon in other languages too and that would cost a lot cause you'd have to hire so many VA as well as game memory due to being able to play the game in multiple languages.
Or they would have to have them all in English or Japanese.
Also, the more recent gens have been improving on Pokemon cries with them sounding similar to the animal they're based on instead of random noises i.e Cufant mooing like an Elephant, Rockruff barking, Litten meowing etc.
As someone who reads more Famitsu weekly sales than you, selling tens of thousands at a time is actually healthy for weekly sales.
Alarm bells are when it drops to the mere thousands in a month or less.

Sure but they'd only have to do it once for all the old pokemon and they can keep those recordings for decades to come
It'd be 1.1k Pokemon if they did it in Gen 10.
>It'd be 1.1k Pokemon if they did it in Gen 10.
Correction
It'd be 1.1k x every supported language with the exception same names.
not an excuse due to dexit. this is how we know they don't give a frick, and just did dexit to make more money.
>VA crew for supported language
How do you say "pika pika" in french?
Pokemon have different names for different languages. They'd have to translate it just like they did for D.O.G.A.R.S.

Because that'd be fricking annoying
Pokémon saying their names is fricking gay. The anime only did this so they could shill their mons to little children so they could memorize their names better and buy the toys.
and it worked didn't it
Well yeah, but that doesn't make it good. Shilling is shilling.

For me, the Drowzee line had very iconic cries ever since Gen 1.

Because random noises are completely superior
Cries > Voice Acted names
That shit was ass, glad it's not in the mainline games
So I don't have to listen to a voice actor badly going "ARCANINE" or some shit
Frick you, I don't want my favorites ruined any further than they are already.

I prefer how the short series anime like Generations does it, the Pokemon making fitting animal/monster sounds
It's not a matter of handling but a design choice?
Not enough room. Prease understand.
Because pokemon don't say their names.
>Famitsu has published its estimated physical game software and hardware sales data for Japan for the week of October 2, 2023 to October 8, 2023.
>Detective Pikachu Returns for Switch was the highest selling new game release last week, opening at 85,639 retail copies sold.
it’s over

That was my point, highest selling game in Japan and even pokemon reddit hates it, but it still sold because pokemon.
>highest selling game in Japan
was there anything else that week that could even compete? highest sale last week really isn't much of an achievement.
I don't think anything was competing with it release week, still buying it means they have bad taste though.
Pokemon voices are more of an anime staple.
Sampled voices are fine.
Because it's cringe
