Zooms can't appreciate Unity because you need the context of earlier games to get it, and they never played those. Boomers can't appreciate Unity because it was buggy on release somewhat and apparently that's enough to hold a grudge against a game forever

Black Flag is a novelty game. I replayed it recently and now that the naval stuff isn't impressive anymore I could clearly see how mediocre that game is. AC3 butchered AC gameplay and AC4 retains that butchered core. Nice story though I guess.

I played all the AC games on release and I don't get the appeal of Brotherhood and Revelations. The former feels like it takes AC2 and stuffed it in a cramped space, the latter departed from the other Ezio games so much in terms of aesthetics and tone that it was a jarring transition. The minigames and new tools in Revelations were whatever too, and it's where the modern day story went to shit.

Black Flag is okay but it's really not an AC game.

      Anonymous

Brotherhood was planned the entire time, only because Rome was too large a city, even though all of the games compresses the cities massively.

Revelations was supposed to be a 3DS game, but got pushed up in development to be a mainline entry.

Both games are polished to the point where they both improved on 2 massively, and Revelations in particular has some of the best scripted sequences in the series.

AC peaked with the first game that wasn’t even that good. It showed some promise but was utterly copypasted. After that Ubi had completely lost the plot. AC2 was a fricking mess that didn’t know which game it wanted to be. Prince of Persia? That stealth game that the first one *tried* to be? An RPG? A fricking Uncharted clone? The story was fluffed the frick out and didn’t make any sense, how the FRICK would some Italian guy become a cosplayer of some medieval arab jackasses?!
And that’s the holy grail of the series. Anything past that one is worse and has even less to do with these arab assassins

      Anonymous

They scaled back the graphics on Syndicate, only because Unity ran like ass on last-gen consoles (and now Unity is 60 FPS on Xbox Series X, and until recently on PS5, Syndicate had severe flickering with shadows, to the point where Sony demanded that Ubisoft patch it if they wanted Ubisoft+ on the PS5).

Assassin's Creed 1 was never remade for PS4 or PS5. It's backwards compatible with the Xbox One/Series X, and it's 4K 60 FPS on top of that.

This is still the original Xbox 360 version, by the way. All games made for Xbox One (including the remasters of of the Ezio Trilogy, 3, Liberation, and Rogue), and excluding 4 (for whatever reason) are all now 60 FPS.

Xbox is the way to go for the series, and Microsoft and Ubisoft are still moronic for not allowing for an FPS or 4K boost to those games. They did that for the Splinter Cell titles (and yet, 1, Pandora Tomorrow, and Version 2 of Double Agent are delisted for some reason).

none of them really, you can be a bit stealthy but the systems aren't really suited for it and the early games tend to be very setpiece-y with regards to killing the targets. you can see where it started as a prince of persia spinoff game and was turned into what it is.

My issue is that the setting didn't really feel like France, it just felt like generic, dirty European city in that time period. The landmarks and architecture aren't strikingly unique like other ones from other games, there's a lighting grading that makes it look hazy or sunset/sunrise always, and relatively little of consequence even happens in the plot and side quests. You have no idea other than being told that it's France in the revolution, that it's France in the revolution

tbf, given what Napoleon was becoming or rather destined to become, it would make sense to make him a villain to the Assassins. I guess the problem lies within its execution.

The Assassins for the most part don't like authoritarian dictatorships, and considering Napoleon attempted to reintroduce slavery into Haiti, and turned the French republic into an empire, you could probably guess that the Assassins wouldn't take too kindly to this.

It peaked right here, with Flamel’s Elixir side quest, which was the point where Ubisoft accidentally fully realized the amazing potential of the franchise and the open world format and they never dared to make that mistake again because God forbid they do anything good.

      Anonymous

To explain further, the first assassination mission of the game has you entering Notre Dame Cathedral. There are three ways of entry, those being entering through the guarded front door, entering through an open door at the top of the cathedral, or opening a locked window by stealing a key from a wandering guardsman or picking it if you have the skill. This Hitman-esque design is rather basic here, but it is a first for the franchise. However, there is actually a fourth entry point that is never directly mentioned.

One of the earliest side quests in the game has you tasked with finding the secret laboratory of alchemist Nicolas Flamel. This requires the assembly of a mechanism that unlocks the gate for you. However, it also unlocks a secret passage that leads into Notre Dame. This passage isn’t necessary for the completion of the side quest and you would not know this unless you paid attention to the map on the wall during the side mission as it is never mentioned otherwise. It is entirely useless for anything except covertly entering Notre Dame. As it is a secret, the passage is completely unguarded and leads you straight to your target for an easy kill.

Imagine if the entire game was like this, where each side quest gave you a shortcut or an interaction instead of XP and money. All these seemingly unconnected and insulated quest lines slightly freeing up the world so when an assassination does come along so does the opportunity to exercise these previously inconsequential rewards. Of course, had you done the Flamel quest after the assassination, then there is no benefit, but that is no excuse to not have it. Unfortunately for the game, this is the only quest of its kind I could find and the rest of the missions are as linear as they were before. Not unlike the real Notre Dame, Unity suffered from structural failure.

Really bad. There's no reason to play it if you have access to the original. The whistling in grass, realtime quick select, and drastic slimming down of the lockpicking minigame do not make it better.
        >Introduces significantly more glitches than the original without fixing any of the original glitches.
        >Ruins Haytham's final scenes because it applies chromatic aberration, blurring, and bloom out the ass.
        >Lighting is a complete mess with people's faces being blown out, barely visible, covered in fog, or like a wax statue.
        >Lighting is so broken in areas that it looks like picture related.
        >Campfires, candles, and campfires are so bright it's like someone is shining a 20,000 lumen flashlight at you from that direction and when you are near them the light virtually blots out the surrounding environment it's so overwhelming.
        >Interiors will have completely broken lighting to the point that the Homestead tavern has entire portions of the interior pitch black.
        >Interios randomly get filled with fog and it looks moronic.
        >Framerate is far worse even on high-end consoles somehow.
        >They didn't make any of the annoying 100% sync requirements easier like chasing CHARLES LEE or the ship powder keg nonsense.
        >ToKW still has all the original glitches including the 100% breaking ones.

Before you ask, Liberation HD is still the same as the arcade release and still has the same glitches but it looks identical to the original arcade release. The Ezio Collection's remaster of 2 is still complete garbage even after all the patches, but its remasters of Brotherhood and Revelations are fine, there's no issues at all and those versions are better than the original releases due to having all the console-exclusive and uPlay exclusive content.
