I'm surprised I've never seen any "gigachad" flak images before, considering he has the perfect jawline and attitude for it.

      Thats because Flak is cack.

Because he isn’t a Gigachad, except for very specific low-tier maps on ABWB where the match creator forgot to turn him off.

I prefer DS since you can rebalance COs with addons, shame the game looks crappy for some reason, the sprites arent sharp

      Anonymous

It certainly had the best balance. I just wish it had as much content as Dual Strike. I feel like you're just done with it after a single playthrough.

Right, balance isn't important for single player. You had to be there when the online scene was big to get the full experience. Or just come to TinyWars.

Isn't he the most luck-based CO in the entire game? He's either really good or completely worthless, depending on RNG.

        Anonymous

That's what makes him fun. He's Nell but utter dogshit because the ability to roll low means you WILL eventually lose (or at least, not outright win) an engagement that you needed to have a tactical advantage. I do think it's funny that the first, lowest tier enemy CO shares a similar gimmick to the last one you'll unlock.
        Also, for me it's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp3DlUUX5QU
Best part of the remake, by far.

        Thats the joke
Pro players hate him and Jugger so much they got them banned from "serious" matches lmao

        Anonymous

        Jugger's spread is wider.
But they're both bad because even though the numbers average out in the abstract, the tactical consequences of a bad roll are way more significant than a good one.

        Anonymous

Every other CO has a baseline luck which, assuming the unit is healthy, adds a flat 0-9% amount of damage to the enemy (Before defense bonuses are factored in).
Even an infantry can deal a lucky 9% damage to a medium tank on a road.

Flak has a larger luck roll for a 0-14% bonus, but each attack includes a 'bad' luck roll that subtracts the result by 0-9%.
This averages out to doing less damage than baseline COs.

          Anonymous

It's worth noting that Flak was buffed in DS so his max luck is now +24% instead of +14%, and this buff was carried into AWBW unlike most AW2 COs. Still bottom tier but technically does more damage on average now.

        Anonymous

If you play the game properly, you don't really need the luck boost on good engagements while you'll absolutely be crippled by bad luck on any engagement. If Flak had a luck% for all units and it told you how much that was at the beginning of each turn, he wouldn't be that bad, because you could actually plan for it. But since you have basically no info, he's trash regardless of how good your rolls are.

      Anonymous

Flak sucks since he's very unpredictable with his luck role. Any CO with rng as a magic gimmick is bad. It isn't like Nell where even her worse case scenario is still a favorable engagement

        Anonymous

That doesn't actually make Flak bad though as over the course of a match the average of Flak's rolls will be positive and given that engagements. A single engagement is unpredictable but on the whole his D2D is better than neutral.

          Anonymous

This doesn't work in practice. 55% is the most important number in the game, since it's the damage value for infantry and tank mirrors. There's a baseline expectation that you're going to two-shot things in these matchups at 110 defense and below. 49*2=98, and every CO with normal luck will reliably get the two luck damage they need to secure the kill on their two 0-+9 rolls.
If Flak/Jugger roll abnormally high, it doesn't matter because you're still two-shotting. If they roll lower, they can actually fail to get the kill, which can be a turn-ending, or even game-ending disaster if the engagement is somewhere important, like at the front of a wall.

In DoR has anyone ever tried spamming rigs so you can just keep building temporary airports and ports so you have a good portion of the map being territory which you can easily transport middles and rockets, large territories to heal and resupply planes and ships, and be a giant pain on the ass for your opponent during fog of war matches?

      Anonymous

Forgot to ask are rigs in DoR better than black boats from DS? I personally found in matches gunboats being more useful than black boats since they're much cheaper and can attack other ships in cost effective trades. I also felt blackboats were too vulnerable to being killed and a huge setback when they die. They also only heal 1hp at a time.

      >fill the map with temp airs
An APC only gets to build one temp property, so it's never going to be practical to deploy that many of them.
      >transportation
You can only build over plains and beaches, so you're only benefiting tired units, none of which see that much play.
      >hiding spots in fog
This is the real shit. It's actually brilliant if you place these well.

        Anonymous

I mean for the cost of 5k for a new temp I consider it worthwhile especially if you can join a new rig with a damaged one yo recoup some money. Temps can be capture by opponents but can't be destroyed so they're a good way to sustain an air and naval force without joining damaged units together or retreating back to a port. Plains are also the most common terrain type and I think for tire units they reduce moment cost by 1 so rockets and missles can have a lot more use if they can travel on property than off roads. That's just me. Greyfield also has a co power which basically resets the build supply for rigs and carriers effectively making you build more seaplane and Temps with those same units.

One thing I wish DoR had was right building more stuff like com towers or destructible bridges and able to bring them back to a factory or HQ to regain building supply ( think just resupplying that on a city would be too OP).

For me DoR has the most well balanced cast of units and the new inclusions and the changes to naval units

          Anonymous

Forgot to say naval combat is vastly improved in DoR where cruisers aren't shit and are actually really good. I think it is the only AW game to get it right or closest thing to right.

why would you ever build a mech unit?
low movement means they can never get the jumo on a recon or a tank and costing 3K is moronic

      Anonymous

They are great in fog of war maps. Just stick them in a forest or on a mountain.

      Anonymous

they can be good defense units for cheap when bases are getting attacked, a few other CO's get more out of mechs since they can increase movement.

      Anonymous

You can put them behind other units and if they get a first strike they can be cost effective. They also are better at traveling through mountains

      Anonymous

DoR have mechs costing 2.5k while increasing cost of infantry to 1.5k

      Anonymous

Because they're amazing supplemental units. They're basically cheaper artillery. They're a must for CO's with movement boosting powers.

        Anonymous

Of course mechs are redoubtably map dependent but when so many maps gimp bases with mountains or forest, they end up having alteast a a turn head start on vehicles like tanks. The're not breaad and butter units, or units you spam, but working one in when you have the income can be really good

He did every wrong thing a person could possibly do in a post-apocalypse. He's actually the biggest detriment to unity of the Brenner's brigade. Greyfield and Caulder would've killed everyone if even a single of the mayor's ideas were allowed through.

Not so much evil as a short-sighted c**t. Trying to screw the mercenaries protecting his shitty town purely because the leader of said mercenaries is the one person in the apocalypse too moral to punish him for it? Not a solid plan.
