After 7+ years of not caring or playing tabletop, I am suddenly getting back into the urge to play it again.
Any big releases or new big things I missed? Keep the bait at the door, I only want to hear from people who actually play.

40k's current edition 10th is a mess.
Age of Sigmar got a massive army squatting meaning that any army could get a massive squatting now from GW.
The Old World finally came out and it seems to doing alright. But the base sizes have been changed to be slightly bigger now.
PrivateerPress crapped the bed and is now a shell of its former glory.
Honestly I think it is a good idea to look at /awg/ and look for ways to start alternative wargames.
I have been having a blast with 30k. There are STLs for everything and at least one bro or the store owner has an 8k or better printer.
Playing games for the thematic fun of it instead of winning has been refreshing.
>found early on that Dreads are over powered
>community just seemed to agree to keep it 1 per 1000 points.
Fricking easy no b***hing or drama just wanting good fun games.
>Age of Sigmar got a massive army squatting
Really? Which one?
GW squatted AOS beastmen because people were using the same minis for both AOS and Old World instead of buying 2 different armies
They are Old World only now
>But the base sizes have been changed to be slightly bigger now.
Bullshit, what?
Now you know why online wargaming stores are invaded by oddly-sized conversion trays for square bases.
Also this was the chance to at least make the bases uniform but noo, now some are 25mm, some are 30, cavalry is 30x60,
Also the game is genuinely shit. Magic has been dumbed down to AOS levels, they bloated the core rules with absolutely pointless keywords because now you need to know whether your infantry is Close Order with Warband and Tight c**ts to maybe get a +1 resolution bonus, which by the way they further increased the maximum static res bonuses. Also, the base sizes are even dumber in light of how now all models on your front can attack regardless of how many of them are actually in contact with the enemy, so there's no longer a mechanical point in some infantry having bigger or smaller bases.
People are worshipping this game but its only merits are having arguably less shitty core rules than 8th and less shitty balance than 7th.
Tabletop as in, ttrpgs, wargames or board games?
Or all 3?
Paid DMing has absolutely destroyed the LGS scene. Tried to find out what the rules were for running a game on Adventurer's League Night and apparently pick up games just aren't kosher. This despite every table having something like 6 to 8 players per DM, would've been abject insanity scant years earlier.
Not really, the hobby is incredibly stagnant and has been for a long time now.
>Any big releases or new big things I missed?
no. just like before, the only thing that makes the games good is you and the people you play with.
the Fear of the Black Dragon podcast has been going on for years and is a pretty good list to scroll through if you want descriptions of different rpgs
Tasha Cauldron, Fizban, Mordikainen ring a bell?, Pinkerton Card Raid, Radiant Citidel,
Crit Role, SRD, paid DM, One DND!
Hasbro cleans house, new card game from mickey mouse,
Guilliman woke up, Lion is an old frick, AoS blown away, what more else do I have to say?
We did start the de-cline...
Underrated post
Slops always churning and this board is burning
We did start the de-cline
Shills deny it and paypigs just had to buy it
may your stacys be many and your woes few
40k 10e is shit
30k is really fun if you're not a metagay, and the community is great
i don't play AoS but apparently they've been getting a bunch of relatively new stuff squatted and people don't like current edition
good post, i kek'd
World of Darkness Chechnya, MTG kitchen sink,
Female Custodes, creators fired for wrongthink
Symbaroum, The One Ring, funky dice from Genesys

We didn't start the de-cline, the hobby been hurtin' caused by lefties subvertin'
We didn't start the de-cline! We got called creeps when we tried to gatekeep,
5e is absolutely in the toilet. Critical Role and Matt Colville are rolling out their own versions and Hasbro is working on some project that might be anything from 5.25 to scrapping the whole tabletop game and just going all-in on a DnD Go! Cellphone Location Game, it feels like they don't know.
These guys called the BroSR some sort of fundamentalist 1e thing where they build an interpretation of the DMG as a whole that treats every word as intentional and equally important and then bend their games to fit that understanding of the rules. Might bring clubhouse-style gaming back in a large way, might lead to another set of Manson murders, too early to tell. If nothing else, bring your popcorn but no matter how thirsty you get, don't drink the kool-aid.
Cypher System now has a metric frickton of splat books, most of which seem designed to work well with each other. No matter what combination you choose, it's still Cypher System.
If you thought no one knew what the hell "OSR" meant 7 years ago, you hadn't seen anything yet.
Games Workshop and WotC are still beating the collectors market in hopes more money falls out. In WotC's case, the answer is no. Put GW as a solid maybe. Osprey games continues to put out awesome rule sets for whatever models or proxies you have handy but no one talks about them anymore.
Fate is still dead.
>big releases or new big things
if all you care about is it being big, go play D&D 5e and be a happy normie consoomer.
good luck finding nontoxic group who will let in your old ass
If he lived near me I'd let him join my table. Frick you for being toxic yourself ya asbestos lined dildo
MTG is fortnite now.
Like there are fortnite cards in MTG.
Lord of the Rings, Warhammer, Doctor Who...
Don't forget Transformers, and the MLP secret lairs.
God forbid someone wants to play a fantasy tabletop game without having to deal with the chance that the opponent brings out a fricking Fluttershy + Starscream ship deck.
Warmahordes is dead.
Battletech underwent a surprising revival.
Wizards tried introducing a "new OGL" that was very restrictive and probably gave them IP rights to everything you made, but got BTFO. This is burned caused by and further caused the proliferation of random-ass "new games" mentioned.
Had Old World of Darkness been revived by the time you left?
3D printing really took off, which made getting into GW games cheaper. Only problem is that they somehow got even worse, too, so you still have to find people to play old editions with. Still waiting on a good generic game to play with all those settingless printable sculpts, though.
