the characters
Fun games
Lovable characters
Easy to follow without moronic weird names
Capcom has reinvented the franchise several times and they know how to make good games.
The series is barely resembling its original form, so you can't really say the game Resident Evil was had staying power.
This.
Things change, no one wants to play the same game over and over. I hate classic nerds
Yeah but the OP is about staying power. If they changed it, it didn't have staying power for X years.
RE might as well have been a different series since 2005. And the same from that point to 2017.
It doesn’t. The series went to shit after 4.
They're just so spooky and scary, just like Amnesia
Changes the formula from time to time and is also the most popular franchise in its genre
For me it's Resident Evil and Silent Hill my go to for survival horror games.
Lots of series from the 90s era are still around
its called franchise milking
It's called if something is successful you make more of it.
also known as milking
that doesnt make sense, resident evil has been a ots shooter for almost 20 years now and there's a trillion re4 clones since
Originals were some of the most innovative and fun new IPs of the true Golden Era.
But then the franchise re-designed itself and started appealing to a totally different demographic. Two to three times in fact.
The fact that they just shifted completely while maintaining the bio-terror aspect was a genius move. The mold creatures and lycans, would have never in my life imagined I'd be playing an RE game with a fish quasimodo and loving it.
>would have never in my life imagined I'd be playing an RE game with a fish quasimodo and loving it.
And I hate every single bit and pixel about that trash.
Do you like 6 more? Genuine question
Mommy tho
I turned RE8 off and uninstalled after half an hour of unskippable cinematic opening shit.
Looked up the cutscenes/gameplay online after and I feel like it was time saved.
>Looked up the cutscenes/gameplay online after and I feel like it was time saved.
You would be correct.
I felt exactly the same while playing RE7. A one of my friends watched me play it through the Steam broadcast, and even he mentioned that it looked like a game you might just as well watch rather than play.
I actually liked RE7 at the time, but it was after marathoning the rest of the main series in release order, and probably would've been satisfied with anything slower and atmospheric after getting double fricked by RE6 and Rev2 back-to-back.
I have no real desire to replay RE7.
Mostly, I want a new game designed like RE2 remake. New scenario and characters but still the overall world design from the classic games and it hasn't been followed up with anything remotely similar.
REmake 2 was like a holy grail of "never ever!" for us oldass RE-fans. Sadly the end product was nothing like we expected. Apparently it could've been way worse as well, with a lot of recorded statements and evidence hinting that it was originally going to be just one linear campaign where you occasionally change the character. Luckily the remaining fanbase b***hed about it pre-release enough for Capcom to retool it to at least resemble the A/B route system of the original, but even then, many of the planned features, including expanded Factory area + some monsters we'd only seen in the Outbreak games previously, got axed.
I also don't appreciate that savestates are no longer limited with Ink Ribbons.
Still haven't played any of the new RE games, is REmake 2 a linear game like RE4?
>is REmake 2 a linear game like RE4?
Not quite. The Cop station actually plays a lot like RE2's station and RE1's mansion, but it has been edited to "loop" around more smoothly to allow players to more effortlessly run away from the Mr. X, who is now a non-stop, unkillable stalker enemy. Think Nemesis, but with no way to get rid of him before the story dictates so.
After the cop-station, however, it takes a massive dip in quality. The new Labs are literally RE-movie inspired "Nest". The remake also has LESS city street sections than the original.
I could also criticize the new OST (or rather, lack of it), and the script is all around worse. The MCs barely interact at all, and all side characters are one-offs that get killed within the same cutscene they pop up.
The actual game levels are like a more widely expanded version of RE2. Lots of backtracking and your performance depends more on your memory and optimizing inventory slots.
Nobody is replaying RE2R and RE4R for the same reasons.
>I also don't appreciate that savestates are no longer limited with Ink Ribbons.
I genuinely don't know if I've ever played RE2R below Hardcore except to fill out the Stats page.
It's not a good remake, and I think that for reasons far more fundamental than the usual gripes, but as a standalone game it's my ideal version of a modern RE (minus the tryhard dark tone and those stupid run-and-talk exposition sequences with Ada/Sherry) but I think that ship has sailed.
RE7 was a tease of how Capcom can make an actual horror game. That's what the series needs, more good horor
Besides shit like 0 or 6 and some spin offs, the series is very good and consistent in quality. As a survival horror game, as an horror action, first person, etc
I agree, out of all the mainline games 0 and 6 (well, maybe Revelations 2 as well) are the only ones that are mediocre
Because it's always changing. The general frame stays the same for a few entries but game by game, there's always a little experimentation that sets them all apart. That's why the fanbase is in such tribalistic shambles as well, but all the same you either evolve with this series or you don't.
>tribalistic shambles
Because of the constant calls for remakes and actual fans not being able to see their favorite series move forward. It's all bandwagoners, posers, and fake fans. They're the ones calling for a remake of that pile of shit CV and it literally makes me angry.
>staying power
>its a forgotten fotm

The series, dipshit.
It's a linear single player game anon.
cuz zoomers too dumb to play alone in the dark
Nugamers who actually like garbage gameplay for some unknown reason. Oh yeah, because MAH GRAFX AND MAH STORY IT'S LIKE WATCHIN A MOVIE.
Hey, nugamers, that exists. It's called actual movies. Get the frick out of gaming.
