Do any of you play? It's kind of shocking that it still gets updates and 20,000+ concurrent players daily.

Yea I play, mostly as the Teutons
I'd like to but like, does it have a ranking system?
I'm concerned I'll kill my ranking and be stuck forever with morons as opposed to just slightly moronic morons
Yes but you can just ignore it.
Its all degenerate 1v1 arabia's anyway in ranked
Yes it has and elo rating/matchmaking system. You won't get hardstuck unless you're genuinely moronic or throwing.
it has a traditional elo system that will put you against other people who are on your skill level. If you get better your elo will go up and you'll fight better people.
Are there any matchmaking that is unranked? I remember I think AOM had unranked lightning speed which was cool
Yeah it has oldschool lobbies
yes, but unless you want to play gamemodes that aren't on ranked ranked is usually better and you get more balanced matches because you're not relying on people to self-identify their skill level.
Who cares about your rank? Play and have fun.
I hope they would add more coop campaigns.
Too bad it looks unlikely.
i remember they announced aoe4 shortly after an aoe2 expansion/dlc
and it was like...why the frick would i play the new one when not only is aoe2 already better but you're fricking still updating it!
>Something Different and Unknown
>It's Someone's Birthday
>We're Inviting Some Ancient Friends to Hang Out
>So, You Liked Dynasties of India
God I love this game.
Is there an easy way to learn if I play like this against the CPU in RTS games
I tend to defend and raid, going for the AI's economy units a lot until I see an opening and just send in an army I have that was defending
I also fricking hate the concept of population limits
The campaigns alone are like 100 hours of gameplay easy and they teach you everything you need to know. They're mostly all real kino historical battles.
I've done campaigns, I can play RTS
I just don#t like that AoE is limited by pop
I'd used a 'no pop' mod to play with the AI for example
you won't learn the fundamentals unless you specifically try to, but you can absolutely practice the basics against the AI effectively.
Do the new tutorials, they teach you how to be reasonably efficient in dark/feudal age which is one of the most important things to learn.
Other than that, learning to keep an eye on things like the pop limit is a big part of what getting good is. Get into the habit of constantly, no matter what else is going on, cycling through "What's my town center doing" "What's the population at" "What's my woodline look like" "What's on the minimap" "What's in my production queue" etc.
Just start another house whenever you're within 5 of the cap. Latergame when you're making more units at once make two to four whenever you're within 20.
He could just take the short cut and have a designated house builder in castle age.
Queue up 10 houses at a time and not worry about shit
Do players normally target hoouses during attacks?
If it's a case of just build the houses and I don't need bother with pop then I'm fine to learn
No they are going to attack your villagers
I don't mind that. I'd just get annoyed if they started going for houses. The population message always annoys me
I love going for houses, but most players just tunnel villagers. vil kills become less valuable as the game goes on and destroying infrastructure becomes more important. Destroying all their lumber camps is a laugh since without wood (which dries up quicker than you think) they can't rebuild the lumber camps.
>not placing a town center on a wood line
of course, placement of fortifications and identifying viable targets are part of the game's strategy
Yes. When you've played AoE2, you'll never need play another RTS ever again
Ps. Post playtime
580.5 hours
220 or so competitive games
How good are the players in this game? I played AoE2 as a kid but never got good so I'm afraid if I go into multiplayer I'll just get raped by boomers doing feudal rush or whatever.
varies greatly in the lobby browser, from noobs who cant beat moderate ai to players with 1000s of hours
Ganker threads have a narrower range but still pretty good variety in skill level
there are both really good players and people that don't seem to know they can move the screen around
There's plenty of 400 elo morons. There's a good mix of all skill levels.
I've been playing aoe 4 lately and the more I play it the more I enjoy it. Is there any hope for aoe 4 bros?
Is age of mythology played online still or is it just age of empires 2?
I'm a newbie and I like how the egyptians don't use gold for buildings

It looks like it still has some players but most are probably playing single player or are 20 year veterans
