I'll guess it's because they have a lot of dude gods surrounding them, there's Zeus, Ra, Odin, Loki, Thor, Poseidon and....whoever that is beside Thor (Set? It's not Anubis) only Isis, Athena and Gaia as female gods. So a little balancing, and also they're smaller than Arkantos while Ajax and Chiron would be bigger than him and would have to be quite far behind him to not overshadow him.

I suppose Reginleif is there to represent the Norse factions as a hero unit, Arkantos is there for the Greeks/Atlanteans and Amanra for the Egyptians. I could be wrong though.
It's a remake, on an upgraded AoE III Definitive engine. Seems like it's going for an AoE II Definitive where it's fairly 1:1 but since AoM is in 3D you can't just up some textures and call it a day. Though there are some gameplay changes and additions like how the God powers work (now have a cooldown for reuse instead of one-and-done) and the population cap which was pretty small in original AoM.
He means the fimbulwinter power, not the fenris wolves. I agree, making all the powers rechargeable is bad for balancing and completely guts half the reason to even play the Atlanteans.
atlanteans will either have super fast spammable cooldowns or stockpile charges so you can use them in a barrage
now i can imagine fighting with shockwaves every 5 second being annoying as frick

oh israelite, rts games are based on rankings, not elo points. you could lose 10 matches in a row and be the same rank, only if you go to comp do they adjust your match rankings (but not named ranking) behind closed doors, not a visible point system. and comp ranking system is moronic as well, you have to complete 10 placement matches where you can face anyone first to maybe start seeing opponents at your same level. there was a screenshot in one of the coh subreddits where a guy doing his placement matches got put up against one of the literal top 3 players of the game that won several tournaments.

what shitty games are you playing? both starcraft and aoe2 use point systems and those are pretty much the only rts that anyone bothers to play competitively.
Also, all myth unit upgraded forms will have a new upgraded model, not just some of them. They showed the Pegasus getting some armor and stuff on an upgrade.

most of the missions can be cheesed horrendously like baiting the the titans with a handful of horse guys in the atlantean missions and just running them around in a circle .
they put absolutely no effort into the chinese missions, which end with "you are victorious!" seemingly at random.
nords are shit and having to have 2 different gatherers for gold and wood/food feel awful.
the god powers are very generic.

I am speculating why they might choose to change up the Atlantean gods, as game developers. Atlanteans have been a contentious faction since the expansion came out twenty years ago for a bunch of reasons. It may not be mythologically accurate, but it would not be the first adaptation of Greek myths to depict the Titans as more inhuman and primal than the current Greek Gods, and they already do it with Kronos, so they may have decided to do so with other Titans to differentiate them visually from the Greek faction, so you don't wind up as much with "Greek faction" and "Greek faction but more", vs the Norse and Egyptian ones which are completely different. I recall a lot of flamewars on forums over the expansion's faction being the semi-fictional Atlanteans rather than another entirely separate mythology like China or Hindu or whichever.

That's actually the mission where you need to use Gaia to heal the earth to defeat Prometheus.
For some reason two things in AoM will never ever fail to give me goosebumps (although I imagine now it's more a Pavlovian thing because it always happened when I was younge), but the intro's Zeus empowered army charge, and seeing the final scenario title come up when playing through a fresh campaign and reaching the finale.
Unless they balance the gods all high level play will just be Zeus and Isis again. Norse just aren't good enough in the main game. Also they have to simplify the micro and pathfinding of troops.

I've gotten heavily back into aoe with online. You get thrashed to start and the plate spinning gets overwhelming but that's part of the thrill.
If you like building up the army and watching em fight RTS only allows or so much of that.
If you want something with a lot of skills to build and learn it's great.
Early on harder ai can provide a challenge but eventually you learn its weaknesses and the fun dissipates. Aoe2 has has a ton of fun campaigns and aoms campaign was excellent.

I'll guess it's because they have a lot of dude gods surrounding them, there's Zeus, Ra, Odin, Loki, Thor, Poseidon and....whoever that is beside Thor (Set? It's not Anubis) only Isis, Athena and Gaia as female gods. So a little balancing, and also they're smaller than Arkantos while Ajax and Chiron would be bigger than him and would have to be quite far behind him to not overshadow him.
I suppose Reginleif is there to represent the Norse factions as a hero unit, Arkantos is there for the Greeks/Atlanteans and Amanra for the Egyptians. I could be wrong though.

It's a remake, on an upgraded AoE III Definitive engine. Seems like it's going for an AoE II Definitive where it's fairly 1:1 but since AoM is in 3D you can't just up some textures and call it a day. Though there are some gameplay changes and additions like how the God powers work (now have a cooldown for reuse instead of one-and-done) and the population cap which was pretty small in original AoM.

oh israelite, rts games are based on rankings, not elo points. you could lose 10 matches in a row and be the same rank, only if you go to comp do they adjust your match rankings (but not named ranking) behind closed doors, not a visible point system. and comp ranking system is moronic as well, you have to complete 10 placement matches where you can face anyone first to maybe start seeing opponents at your same level. there was a screenshot in one of the coh subreddits where a guy doing his placement matches got put up against one of the literal top 3 players of the game that won several tournaments.

I am speculating why they might choose to change up the Atlantean gods, as game developers. Atlanteans have been a contentious faction since the expansion came out twenty years ago for a bunch of reasons. It may not be mythologically accurate, but it would not be the first adaptation of Greek myths to depict the Titans as more inhuman and primal than the current Greek Gods, and they already do it with Kronos, so they may have decided to do so with other Titans to differentiate them visually from the Greek faction, so you don't wind up as much with "Greek faction" and "Greek faction but more", vs the Norse and Egyptian ones which are completely different. I recall a lot of flamewars on forums over the expansion's faction being the semi-fictional Atlanteans rather than another entirely separate mythology like China or Hindu or whichever.

Basically guaranteed, it's mentioned in the press release and most of the screenshots are missions from the campaign. That doesn't mean the cutscenes will be "remastered" per say as they might stick closely to the original game's ones, but given the engine change they might be a little more dynamic.

For some reason two things in AoM will never ever fail to give me goosebumps (although I imagine now it's more a Pavlovian thing because it always happened when I was younge), but the intro's Zeus empowered army charge, and seeing the final scenario title come up when playing through a fresh campaign and reaching the finale.
Unless they balance the gods all high level play will just be Zeus and Isis again. Norse just aren't good enough in the main game. Also they have to simplify the micro and pathfinding of troops.

This was one of the first pc games I saw on a store shelf, it seemed to have been very common at stores and thus popular back in the day and the box art was very captivating as a kid.

you really can't. It's like trying to add another race to StarCraft, you can't do it without either cannibalizing from the other factions, or merely creating visual reskins. That's the problem when the design is to keep the factions mechanically distinct instead of same shit for everyone with a few tweaks here and there (AoE2)
The game would be perfectly playable with only the original three, it has the high asymmetry thought process in mind. The balance already got fricked with the Atlanteans and it only got worse with the Chinese. This isn't an AoE game in regards to faction design, just shoving at least half a dozen new factions into the game isn't a good idea.

Pretty cool, it's nice to see the game get some love after being something of a black sheep for a while.
I hate all of the new civs including the ones from the original expansion packs. maybe I could have accepted sweden and italy.
I always felt Atlanteans were an unnecessary addition that doesn't fit with the original game.

Well they don't. They're an OC faction that was literally just thrown into the game for no reason, and it just stole the Greek's gimmick which was stupid both functionally and mythologically. They were also incredibly unbalanced.

I've gotten heavily back into aoe with online. You get thrashed to start and the plate spinning gets overwhelming but that's part of the thrill.
If you like building up the army and watching em fight RTS only allows or so much of that.
If you want something with a lot of skills to build and learn it's great.
Early on harder ai can provide a challenge but eventually you learn its weaknesses and the fun dissipates. Aoe2 has has a ton of fun campaigns and aoms campaign was excellent.
