How would a pharah or mercy or even a dva work? The de-mech mechanic would be werid, and pharah is a ranged character that just flies and shoots rockets, hardly fun gameplay to fight against.

The most Nintendo tolerates is violent characters and sexy girls that aren't TOO blatantly sexy (Mai and her default universal thong design that would make even Bayonetta blush, no watering down that one). You see those can be toned down, but characters with certain sexual preferences? No way.

BUTTT, it gets better. the community, sexualized their characters like crazy with porn. with characters like d.va being one of the most cosplayed ones. even by women who don't give a shit about the game but like her because she's sexy.
Most of Smash Ultimate's picks were clearly planned many years in advance with the 3rd parties, Banjo was 100% one of the real ballot runner ups, only recent game shills were all first partys, Doomguy was never on the ballot, but was a last minute rush to get the Mii out at the end to reference the sudden fan demand, Nomura's autism managed to get Sora to be the 13th DLC fighter (counting Pyra/Mythra as two) on update 13.0.0 with 13 days delayed release, and Sephiroth to be in the same game again.
There was no room at all to deal with a begger showing up this late, when everything was already planned and sealed tight
I still stand by Smash 4 becoming a beta for Ultimate and that it's DLC was simply the start of determining the Ultinate roster. Belmont, K Rool, Ridley, Banjo, Sephiroth, they all reek of fan demand. Joker is the only real outlier, and he seems to have gotten in specifically due to Sakurai wanting him.
