Anybody playing Tomb Raider right now? I've got so shit to say: If a classic Tomb Raider game were every to be made, I wish they'd find a way to make the save system tighter imo.
In my opinion the save crystals should only be relevant for long stretches of platforming and traps. Otherwise it gets boring following the same path and way that I already figured out ages ago, because there's this one jump, or trap, or something else along the way and at the end of the path that I don't expect that I now have to consider, and rhe more I die, rhe more my patience wanes, and the more mistakes I make.
If I'm being honest, I haven't experienced that many platforming segments or even that many traps in Tomb Raider 3 so far. Half the reason I die is because I permanently play with like a sliver of health, because I'm a health pack hoarder. Anybody who saw my past Tomb Raider thread will remember that I had a sliver of health there too. that's basically how I play through all levels. Avoiding as much damage as possible and only healing if I feel it's absolutely necessary.
Anybody got any ideas on this? Anybody agree with me? Has any experience with other games that do this tighter? I personally don't think the Dark Souls method could work for Tomb Raider but somebody mentioned something similar to bloodborne...that'd need much more shortcuts tho...

All of the individual parts of this are within the bounds of current AI, except I don't believe he's actually getting an AI to generate the dialogue from the video. AI can do that, his example is youtube's content detection shit, so stuff like in this video should be theoretically possible, but there's an added layer of difficult in putting recognized shit in a video in context that I'm not aware of anyone having put together a project that overcomes yet. You can get an AI to tell you what is in a video, it could say "wolf, ice, bats, blood," and I think they're far enough that it can say "Lara croft, being bitten by a bat, blood, on the ice," but "Describe the video from the perspective of Lara Croft" hasn't been done yet unless I missed it which is entirely possible given how fast this shit moves and I really doubt some random youtube guy was the first to do it.
He shows a regular ass chatGPT window with the dialogue in one shot, so I'm assuming he just described the scene to the AI and then asked it to write Lara's lines, and then fed them into a voiceAI
And if he's lying about the vision recognition shit he's probably lying about most of it, the AI learning to control Lara is possible, people have been doing that for ages with mar.io and shit, but it's non-trivial, and his specific claims about how it functions are more vague than they seem, but is roughly how something like that would work.

It both feels very real and not at all. CV for recognizing Lara, almost trivial now. Using unrecognized textures for navigation, maybe if that's consistent in the level design, although I really, really doubt it actually works for puzzles. Knowing the level structure when it's made of polygons doesn't even need SLAM. Making the bot play the game beyond that wouldn't be too crazy (assuming navigation by vision is that easy) although the way he explained it implies a lot of special cases instead of a generalized system like some reinforcement learning setup, which seems like a lot of extra work. Things like dodging traps would be hard unless there's only a few types easily detected visually.

Well, the comments on the music cues mean they for some reason decided to input meta aspects outside of the game's "real" environments into the AI.
I have no clue why you would do this unless you wanted to create an AI that uses meta commentary rather than one organic to the setting.
In addition I would suggest that AI text 'quips' a lot because the AI GPT algorithm is programmed to 'say yes' whenever possible, leading to it making short comments (interpreted as jokes or quips) even at times where a real person probably wouldn't (you see this in a lot of AI NPC projects, the AI is super chatty because it's been designed to comment on it's environment EVERY TIME it recieves a new input such as an NPC nearby, change in the environment, NPC dying, etc).

You can tell this is fake within the first 30 seconds. It's not the AI-generated comments on what's on-screen that give it away, it's the way it moves around and looks at things. It feels intentionally artificial, as do the creator's explanation of how these processes work. Most of the stuff about how it was made feels like it's intended to make you go

However AI being used to recognize objects in a game and then being able to input controls is the next big threat to multiplayer gaming (IE it just reads the screen and then beelines an instant headshot into everything that moves)

NPCs will never be the same. there will be no need for game difficulties because AI will be able to create personalized one for each player on the fly. ingame tutorials will be replaced by AI that will hold your hand whenever you stumble. eventually AI will be able to create infinite number of different experiences whenever you start a new game, think baldur's gate 3 X 1000000. also I imagine sex games and japanese visual novels will soon enter into the golden age.
