Think it should also include some bits from Ryuki's Somnium, when you remove mental locks on the Dahlia Boat path. The text keeps saying things like "made Date face forward", "showed Date the truth" when it's supposed to be fricking Ryuki.
I though that somehow we were now in the timeline of Shoma Komeji end.
Boss chewing you super hard for letting "tearer" escape in the cathedral was nice foreshadowing as well. Now that I know it's for shooting a civilian it makes perfect sense.

It wasn't a failure it was a success. Everything culminates in the diverge ending where the frayer finally breaks the simulation after constantly making the characters remember stuff they shouldn't, dahlia mentioned in shoma route, mizuki knowing the almighty password, it all ends in the nil number being revealed at the end of the resolution end, the final step of the nirvana initiative, making the frayer answer a question with an answer that shouldn't be known. Tokiko mentioning that the plan succeeded in the TV wasn't a "haha it actually failed", it was Tokiko bragging because she knew what was going to happen afterwards
That's not the point, the existence of the Mizuki present branch is only possible by having Ryuki remember Dahlia Boat when that shouldn't be possible, now the frayer knows that they need to gather information from other worlds to solve that somnium and it ends in them learning the nil number and going back to tell Tokiko when she first asked the question 6 years before, the diverge route is the true ending for this reason, it follows the player's experience to try and get all information and end up causing something bad, this is the Yukidoh plan all over again

Not reading this thread but I just got to the point where they talk about how the timelines are off and you've been switching back and forth the whole time and it kind of blew my mind? There were a few times where it felt like the characters were saying shit that didn't line up but I just brushed it off as my memory being bad but nope it was foreshadowing
I realized immediately after the first timeline swap that something wasn't adding up and was like "it's gonna turn out that the timeline is wrong isn't it"

He was already putting her through a lot with having to illegally work to make enough money to help support her family and had to lean on her in his worst mistake.

Frick no. Hers was one of the most atmospheric and creepy. The slow downward movement was a small price to pay.
Also, I'd put both Amame's Somnias together in S tier since the second one heavily relies on information from the first.
At least we can all agree that Somnias in general in NI are far superior to all the ones in the first game. God those were horrible. I actually had fun playing them this time around.
NI's somnuims actually having universal logic instead of each piece of the puzzle having its own logic made them feel more cohesive. It also didn't have annoying ones like the warehouse door puzzles
Overall the somniums in NI are better but I still think the shock of Saito's somnium hasn't been beat. My only complaint with NI somniums is that there are too many instances of freebies with no pressure, especially in Amame's. I was really getting into the quiz stuff and then your answers don't matter because there's no right or wrong answer only to find out later there is a hypothetical right and wrong answer but Ayame chose the wrong ones

Just finished this game. Didn't like it. Loved the first one. Hated the QTE's with this plus I thought the dreams were generally weaker even though the mechanics got better. Also I had trouble caring about the characters. I also don't feel the time changes were a big deal, especially when Date told you about it before the big Mama exposition. I'll give the simulation theory as being good, but i was expecting more there, like an on purpose game crash.
the characters are trying to understand the sonmiums effects on the timelines but can't quite grasp it, much like the fruit of immortality red herring in the first game. It's not until the Frayer's existence can you really see how it's all put together, but it's Ryuki who gets this revelation, and who knows if he's actually going to be able to tell anyone this in the Diverge timeline before he just schizos out again
just because they had a "purpose" doesn't mean they were justified. you could say the same thing about serial killers IRL: the purpose of the murders was to make the killers happy
It's kinda buggy in some places if you replay. Like in Bibi chapter 2 you start exploration with 2 of the balloons instead of 0 and thus the exploration phase ends early after visiting 1 or 2 places.
I know a lot of characters have butthole moments in different routes that get glossed over, but it weirds me out that Kizuna's father literally hires a death squad to kill her fiancee and friends in one route but then his last scene with Mizuki and Bibi just treats him as a sweet orphanage owner

No, Frayers are beings outside the simulation who have the ability to take limited control of people within the simulation. This is what allows them to fray the simulation. Shitters can only hop between versions of themselves and must still act within the boundaries of the world.

Honestly wtf was up with that painting puzzle in Tearer's Somnium? I solved all the other puzzles in the game by myself but that one took me over an hour until I gave up and looked it up online, shit made no fricking sense and was way too abstract. Also I thought most of the Somniums were worse than the ones in the first game, especially Tokikos that swimming part at the end was fricking terrible and the worst part of both games

That one was pretty straightforward imo, you walk in a pattern that removes walls and lines up the scope with the color pattern painting to find a corresponding number. The scopes have feet prints showing the angle you're supposed to look at as well so you know which walls to remove.

For all puzzles Aiba/Tama will keep giving you hints if you interact with the right thing, except for the NonupleX safe code in Tokiko's office, for that one you can get fricked
The painting one wasn't that bad after you figure out how it works, just a pain with the orb floating around. The Tokiko ending bit was terrible though, I can't think of any reason they had to make it like that.
A few things I'd like to ask some anons that are smarter than me to help clarify: When Date's memories came back, he stayed on the low because he thought there was something sus about ABIS. Was that just a red herring? Boss sends SATs to get them in one timeline, which is admitedly way overboard. She's never gone to that extreme even when Date/Ryuki/Mizuki did far more serious things before. I thought it would lead to ABIS/Boss/Pewter being lowkey villains or some shit.
While we're on the subject, how the FRICK did Date managed to escape the cathedral on his own while evading detection without his memories and a fricked up leg? It's reasonable to expect he at least had to go to the hospital before travelling the country. No way in hell he didn't have his police badge during all of this.
I have no problem in suspending my disbelief, but Date's second memory loss along with Bibi having the EXACT SAME clothes and bike as Mizuki were 2 hard pills to swallow.

They call the factoty "the restricted zone" or something like that, so I assume it's guarded but guards in this universe are pretty incompetent
The clothes thing I can get over, though I wish we knew Boss had a daughter in the first game, even if just as a trivial detail. The Date stuff too, it's contrived but whatever they just didn't care enough I guess. I can't even recall what the point was for his being gone 6 years. The SAT ending is definitely something that should have been addressed better, it felt so out of the blue for Boss to just turn on them like that.
It's never brought up again after that so it might be a red herring or a plot point for AI3. The only thing I can think of is Date having suspicions that Tearer had control of Ryuki through blackmail from the way he acted so the same might have been true for other people at ABIS or that Tearer had access to ABIS's information network Date was held up in some room that Tearer brought him to, so it was probably several days after that when he regained consciousness and made his escape Those last two points are just bad writing that was needed for the twist to work. It takes away from Mizuki's character by having a clone of her that's almost exactly the same person and it shits on the nice end of AI1 by having Date missing for 6 years since he needed to be gone from the story since he would have solved it himself otherwise

now the real question: I played all 999/AI entries, tried playing all danganronpa games but all three feel extremely dumbed down/stupid, like 999 but for teenagers, so to speak. Couldn't stomach more than 20 minutes in each, didnt even get to any murders. The dialogue is just very childish, I dont know

Wrong, the VR investigation of Studio Dvaita happened in the present It's why Date is surprised Ryuki knows Tearer wears an iron mask. At that point Date and Bibi just met Tearer in the factory and don't know Ryuki already met him.

There's two pozzed lines in the game
one at the start that doesn't even make sense and one at the end where the main heroine says she wants to beat up incels.
I don't think anything is wrong with either of the Miyuki's but they really don't work in the role of the playable character. They don't have an interesting dynamic like Date/Aiba and Ryuki/Tama have and they get outshined by whoever they're interrogating at the time.
It shows how bad it is when Bibi gets to be an NPC during half the game and she immediately becomes a likable character.

Tokiko mentioning that the plan succeeded in the TV wasn't a "haha it actually failed", it was Tokiko bragging because she knew what was going to happen afterwards

Not reading this thread but I just got to the point where they talk about how the timelines are off and you've been switching back and forth the whole time and it kind of blew my mind? There were a few times where it felt like the characters were saying shit that didn't line up but I just brushed it off as my memory being bad but nope it was foreshadowing
I realized immediately after the first timeline swap that something wasn't adding up and was like "it's gonna turn out that the timeline is wrong isn't it"

I think Tokiko somnium was the creepiest somnium in the whole series. I had goosebumps while playing it. Tjhe movement adds to the tension.
The fricking white noise in the BGM kicks it down a couple places for me.

Also, I'd put both Amame's Somnias together in S tier since the second one heavily relies on information from the first.
At least we can all agree that Somnias in general in NI are far superior to all the ones in the first game. God those were horrible. I actually had fun playing them this time around.
Swimming for a whole minute at the end hurts Tokiko's imo, but the atmosphere and puzzles were great.
NI's somnuims actually having universal logic instead of each piece of the puzzle having its own logic made them feel more cohesive. It also didn't have annoying ones like the warehouse door puzzles
I still prefer the somniums in 1. They're way too straightforward in 2.

Overall the somniums in NI are better but I still think the shock of Saito's somnium hasn't been beat. My only complaint with NI somniums is that there are too many instances of freebies with no pressure, especially in Amame's. I was really getting into the quiz stuff and then your answers don't matter because there's no right or wrong answer only to find out later there is a hypothetical right and wrong answer but Ayame chose the wrong ones

Just finished this game. Didn't like it. Loved the first one. Hated the QTE's with this plus I thought the dreams were generally weaker even though the mechanics got better. Also I had trouble caring about the characters. I also don't feel the time changes were a big deal, especially when Date told you about it before the big Mama exposition. I'll give the simulation theory as being good, but i was expecting more there, like an on purpose game crash.
3rd game it will be the other stuff Iris telling you become real and Aiba will betray you for her machine overlords.
If we observe through the frayer's perspective and we talk to mama at one point then who is the other voice she speaks to

To Ryuki, the information he got in the Divergence end was basically a precognitive dream
the characters are trying to understand the sonmiums effects on the timelines but can't quite grasp it, much like the fruit of immortality red herring in the first game. It's not until the Frayer's existence can you really see how it's all put together, but it's Ryuki who gets this revelation, and who knows if he's actually going to be able to tell anyone this in the Diverge timeline before he just schizos out again

It's kinda buggy in some places if you replay. Like in Bibi chapter 2 you start exploration with 2 of the balloons instead of 0 and thus the exploration phase ends early after visiting 1 or 2 places.
I know a lot of characters have butthole moments in different routes that get glossed over, but it weirds me out that Kizuna's father literally hires a death squad to kill her fiancee and friends in one route but then his last scene with Mizuki and Bibi just treats him as a sweet orphanage owner

Honestly wtf was up with that painting puzzle in Tearer's Somnium? I solved all the other puzzles in the game by myself but that one took me over an hour until I gave up and looked it up online, shit made no fricking sense and was way too abstract. Also I thought most of the Somniums were worse than the ones in the first game, especially Tokikos that swimming part at the end was fricking terrible and the worst part of both games
the one where you look through the holes? that shit was easy peasy broham, when you notice that they're pointed at the paintings it would make sense to try to interact with them when you can actually see the paintings
That one was pretty straightforward imo, you walk in a pattern that removes walls and lines up the scope with the color pattern painting to find a corresponding number. The scopes have feet prints showing the angle you're supposed to look at as well so you know which walls to remove.
For all puzzles Aiba/Tama will keep giving you hints if you interact with the right thing, except for the NonupleX safe code in Tokiko's office, for that one you can get fricked

The painting one wasn't that bad after you figure out how it works, just a pain with the orb floating around. The Tokiko ending bit was terrible though, I can't think of any reason they had to make it like that.

A few things I'd like to ask some anons that are smarter than me to help clarify:
When Date's memories came back, he stayed on the low because he thought there was something sus about ABIS. Was that just a red herring? Boss sends SATs to get them in one timeline, which is admitedly way overboard. She's never gone to that extreme even when Date/Ryuki/Mizuki did far more serious things before. I thought it would lead to ABIS/Boss/Pewter being lowkey villains or some shit.
While we're on the subject, how the FRICK did Date managed to escape the cathedral on his own while evading detection without his memories and a fricked up leg? It's reasonable to expect he at least had to go to the hospital before travelling the country. No way in hell he didn't have his police badge during all of this.
I have no problem in suspending my disbelief, but Date's second memory loss along with Bibi having the EXACT SAME clothes and bike as Mizuki were 2 hard pills to swallow.
I think the intended explanation is that Date sensed there was a hidden player in the investigation, i.e. Bibi!Mizuki
For the second one, I don't think he was held in the Cathedral, just some random ass Tearer hideout

They call the factoty "the restricted zone" or something like that, so I assume it's guarded but guards in this universe are pretty incompetent
The clothes thing I can get over, though I wish we knew Boss had a daughter in the first game, even if just as a trivial detail. The Date stuff too, it's contrived but whatever they just didn't care enough I guess. I can't even recall what the point was for his being gone 6 years. The SAT ending is definitely something that should have been addressed better, it felt so out of the blue for Boss to just turn on them like that.

Those last two points are just bad writing that was needed for the twist to work. It takes away from Mizuki's character by having a clone of her that's almost exactly the same person and it shits on the nice end of AI1 by having Date missing for 6 years since he needed to be gone from the story since he would have solved it himself otherwise

He says he was held hostage for a single day and then saw a white snake, which triggers the same response on him as porn magazines so he turned super saiyan and escaped

now the real question: I played all 999/AI entries, tried playing all danganronpa games but all three feel extremely dumbed down/stupid, like 999 but for teenagers, so to speak. Couldn't stomach more than 20 minutes in each, didnt even get to any murders. The dialogue is just very childish, I dont know

I don't think anything is wrong with either of the Miyuki's but they really don't work in the role of the playable character. They don't have an interesting dynamic like Date/Aiba and Ryuki/Tama have and they get outshined by whoever they're interrogating at the time.
It shows how bad it is when Bibi gets to be an NPC during half the game and she immediately becomes a likable character.
