The point is that there's a level that video essays have reached that go beyond reasonable or valuable content. Critiques should be concise. The example of OP is just a particularly bad example. The dude is actually deranged, his whole channel is dedicated to ONE game, Persona 4 which culminated in him making a single video which is 10 hours long on the game. That is absolutely insane

You can form your own opinion but most people don't even get that far. In a way, watching these Art Criticism videos is helping people START appreciating art, because they wouldn't even notice or care otherwise.
Likewise it's probably entertaining to watch some minutes and see how it matches your perspective, if you agree or disagree, or if he found something you didn't catch.

Because it's all these nerds know. Like, they don't even know how to do criticism which is why these are super long plot recaps with the title "analysis." So you're 35 and you have no skills and you see these long-form """essays""" get tons of views, they try to chase the fame.
Those analysis videos are literally just background noise. That's why they go from 1-10 hours, it doesn't matter, there's no need to keep the listener's focus. It's just filler.
