There are still fun JRPGs coming out. Monochrome Mobius 2, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Eiyuden Chronicle, Trails, etc. Sure, it's not the golden age of JRPGs anymore, but I still enjoy them. Definitely beats whatever is coming out in the West.

Yes, but if you can, play the PSP games first (7th Dragon 2020 and 2020-II), as they share a continuity and are built on the same gameplay systems. The 2020 games also have sweet in-game alt soundtracks where every song is redone by Miku with vocals.
VFD is fricking fantastic but better if you've played every game in the series, including the original, which is a good game but different from the other 3.

well, i was going to help you out but i think your particular niche of games is very small and not much similar has come out recently.
in any case, just play Xenoblade Chronicles X. You may hate it, but at least you will get to enjoy some nice music and exploration until you drop it.
